Concerta length of effect

Common Questions and Answers about Concerta length of effect

concerta

Avatar f tn So, it is reported that it begins working fast in the morning and continues to control symptoms during the day and then tapers off at hours 10 to 12. Concerta may have a slightly better effect in those last two hours but less of an effect early on in the day after taking it. Both have a pretty similar side effect profile and you are familiar with these from your child's current medication.
Avatar f tn Typically tiredness is not a side effect of stim meds, unless you are over dosed and then you can feel kind of stoned. Hopefully, this helps a bit. Please ask if you need more info.
Avatar f tn Hi folks, I took Concerta for 2 weeks and gave it up because of GI issues and a lot of facial twitching in addition to still having a lot of fatigue. I stopped taking it almost a week ago but I still have a remaining eye twitch that is driving me nuts. Now I'm thinking the current twitch is likely unrelated to Concerta and may be MS related. If so, it is a new symptom for me and like most MS symptoms, I need relief. Has anyone had any success getting rid of the twitches?
982251 tn?1248781387 I am not a doctor, but my son was also on concerta, and that can be a side effect of that. We had success switching him to Straterra, out of everything he's tried that has the least side effects, and it's once a day, dosing is based on weight, and even adults take it who have adult add. Look up drug side effects for concerta. Maybe changing the medication might help, and it does take some time for the medication and there side effects to clear their system.
Avatar f tn Can the Concerta be causing the side effect of the dialation to his eyes? I mean his eyes are almost completely black with a very thin line of blue around them. I checked his eyes this morning before he took his Concerta pill and his eyes were still dialated, but not as badly as after he takes the Concerta. Should I take him to an eye doctor or should I discuss this with his psychiatist (who prescribes his Concerta) first?
Avatar m tn As far as I know, the only two are intuniv and concerta. They use different formulations. No clue which is better. I think it probably depends on the individual. Both do take a while to take effect (compared to a stimulant). If you google them, you will be able to see lots of anecdotal posts on how it worked for that poster or their children. Hope this helps.
969557 tn?1314370614 My son was on concerta and adderall and they both can cause seizures. I would ask doctor to you for an egg and make sure you are not having seizures.Witch is a side effect to concerta and can not be reversed .They can only give you medicine to try and control the seizures. I wish we had never put my son on these medicines.
13415927 tn?1430701518 Parker (New ADHD Medication Rules), if you are only treating the seratonin side (depression), you are setting up a seesaw effect that will make your ADHD worse. But, of course, if you are only treating the ADHD side, then for the same reason, you depression could get worse. So in that sense, you are correct.
Avatar f tn I'll have to agree with dollyn. I only used Concerta for a short period of time, but I am regretting it still. I was 17 when I started them and the sx became chronic (tics), so I won't even think about what the effect would be for a child.
Avatar n tn My son was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 6 and has been on concerta since that time which has helped him tremendously until recently. It's as if the concerta has no effect on him anymore. his doctor said he can't up his dosage to 36 mg because of his weight (he weighs approx 65 pounds). Has anyone ever heard of this? I didn't think the dosage was based on weight.
Avatar f tn I started taking 18 mg of Concerta once daily about 2 weeks ago. Oddly I have noticed two things: 1) I can no longer have my daily/morning coffee without severe nausea (even the pharmacist didn't have it as one of his warnings). 2) Despite the fact that it keeps me awake to the point that daytime napping is not possible I still feel exhausted most of the time which doesn't make much sense to me. Has anyone had anything like either of these things happen while they were taking it?
1031310 tn?1259857386 But for CHILDREN, concerta is probably the safer of the two UNLESS these sudden auditory hallucinations really are a result of the concerta and not a result of something weird that happened at a new "church"... but, it just seems sooo unlikely after two years of no side-effects. And it's not that I don't think that a drug like concerta could have a reaction like this in a extremely rare case...
Avatar f tn I have child that was also on Concerta 36. There are two types of this medication. Concerta and Concerta CR which is controller release, I believe it was called. However, I found that concerta is not a very effective drug for dealing with ADHD. You might want to have the school give her the second dose at 1pm at school, this way it will avoid the medicine lapsing while she is at school.
Avatar f tn My son was on adderall and concerta.and both of them ,have the side effect of causing seizures. He was taken off them medicine once I found out he was having seizures , and was told it could be from the medicine.and the side effect cant be reversed. Be careful of the side effects with the medicine and make sure it is worth ,what could happen to you,if you where to get any of them. And make sure that you really have adhd and not something different.
1756970 tn?1314376733 hi ok i was put on concerta 36mg about 2 weeks ago and weened off of zoloft 200 mg and put on at the same time 10 now 20 mg of celexa. the first week i was feeling great!! was finally sleeping well, woke up energized and moods were stable. than this week i went down hill. i felt like i was on crack all day!! my brain was foggy, yet overstimulated. couldnt interpret what people were wanting from me. i heard them but just panic mode set in.
575214 tn?1218040360 I have schizoaffective disorder and generally did not need more than one antipsychotic. Did they diagnose any form of psychosis in him? Benzotropine is a side effect pill. It is used to stop motor restlessness in antipsychotics but if he is experiencing that that may contribute to the problem. I take Clonidine in patch form. That's used occassionally as a mood stabilizer but often for Tourrette's and is used for children with restless or impulsive behavior from what I know.
Avatar f tn I was taking Lamictal 100mg,Abilify do not remember how much and 18mg a day of concerta a few years ago and I found that when it was my time to take te abilify I was so tired, so my Dr. told me to take it at night before I went to bed and then I noticed weight gain from it and I stopped taking the meds all togther and lost the weight but felt horrible mentally and emotionally, so 6monts ago, I went back to the DR.
1575110 tn?1334664635 I am on sertariline Zoloft and I am also taking a beta blocker called propananol- these two in combination with an adhd medicine sort of makes it lost its effect. I need help organizing my thoughts and not misplacing things and a steady stream of medicine with out highs or lows. What is the most effective drug Concerta or Vyvanse or any other suggestions? I have heard of daytrana as well, but I'm an adult. I'm slowly getting everything back together.
Avatar m tn which is why you have to take them daily. Concerta is one of the longer acting meds, but its length of duration is maybe 8 to 10 hours if properly prescribed dosage wise. And muscle pains are not a known side effect. I am wondering if you started tapering down your diazepam just before you started the Concerta? More on that later. You said, "I think I was incorrectly diagnosed at 44" incorrectly diagnosed with adhd?
Avatar m tn You might try a stronger dose of ritalin. It would be out of your system in 4 hours instead of 8 (give or take) with concerta. Adderall is a amphetamine while ritalin/concerta is a methylphenidate. The symptoms should ease at night when the meds no longer in system. If the symptoms are still there, it may not be related. Could be an ear problem that just happened at same time? Hope this helps a little.
Avatar m tn My doctor thinks we may try something else to counteract the fatigue side effects of Paxil, once I concerta is out of my system. Honestly, this experience with concerta has me thinking of to phasing antidepressants altogether. I should mention that asside 50mg of Paxil I am also taking 0.5 mg of risperidon. I thank you again for your very thoughtful response.
16613731 tn?1449676204 s the case then be advised that Concerta, like all stimulants, has the side effect of hair loss(http://www.drugs.com/sfx/concerta-side-effects.html). It's likely that most doctors won't mention this, because it isn't a very prevalent side effect. In regards to a lack of concentration, it could be possible that the dosage of Concerta you're currently on isn't high enough, or Concerta simply isn't working out, but definitely talk to your doctor about this.
944223 tn?1245869858 Dear men and women.I am a 27 year old male diagnosed with ADHD twice at two different hospitals. I went to hospitals because I knew I had some issue when I would lash out at people due to my impatientness among other things I knew really weren't me. I waited awhile because I wasnt sure if it was ptsd or not.But looking back, and having my Gifted/Talented teacher tell me i was the same in elementary, i knew it may have been add/adhd.
Avatar n tn I've never heard of this condition specifically but a greater occurance of "tic" are well documented for users of stimulents such as this. You've had him see his doctor concerning this, right? His psychiatrist must be informed right away as well - both of the symptoms and that you've stopped the meds. They should be able to give you the answers you need.
Avatar n tn I have no way to empirically measure whether the feedback on hairloss is from the 1% as I do not know the size, ages, length of time on medication, etc. of the trail cohort. It could be that not one of those reporting on blogs is from the 1% - no way to be sure. Anyway, thanks for your feedback.
Avatar n tn now if you take like 2mg xanax and 72mg Concerta and feel focused, motivated without anxiety f.e. that is sweet spot but a small ammount of alprazolam will overpower MPH and if it does you will need literally half bottle of Concerta, this is my experience and I say for mayority of other reports that i red in last 2 years so you are safe but take 1mg xanax more and no cleaning...
