Avatar f tn At age 5 he was diagnosed with pretty sever ADHD. We started on Strattera and after two weeks he violently attacked me...We then went to Concerta then to Focalin then back to Concerta....not ever obtaining great control of ADHD. He additionally was put on Prozac about a year ago for anxiety as he was chewing the skin off his fingers until they would bleed and chew huge blisters on his lips. Three weeks ago, the Psychiatrist added in Intuniv...OH MY GOSH...
Avatar m tn My 6 year old DD was started on concerta about a month and a half ago. This is the first medication they suggested to us. She seems to be doing really well in school but the side effects at home are becoming hard for us to handle. SHe has become very nonaffectionate, emotional, withdrawn, and seems to be uninterested in life. She also will not eat at all. She is eating maybe one meal a day. I am wondering if we switch medications, will the side effects be the same/as bad?
Avatar f tn ve read about extended release focalin verses extended release concerta is that focalin works faster (within 30 minutes of taking it) and is better for a child that needs the help prior to leaving for school and that type of thing. So, it is reported that it begins working fast in the morning and continues to control symptoms during the day and then tapers off at hours 10 to 12.
Avatar n tn Ricky had started Concerta at the end of the month of Novenber. He was on 18 mg (btw he just turned 7 and weighs 47 pounds),at the beggining we noticed a HUGE difference, the change lasted until the a week before the xmas break, then he seemed to fall back into his old pattern, attention problems, lost and playing alot with his fingers. So I had a doc appointement a uped his dose to 27 mg.I have this for 2 weeks and another prescrition for 36 mg if we don't see any difference.

Avatar f tn Why is my 'shrink' trying to treat my Adult ADD with Bubropion HCL SR (100mg tab 2X a day)? Is this the right med for me? Good grief...it didn't even cut out my smoking. Both of my adult children are on Adderall and are doing fine. My doc keeps telling me that Concerta & Adderall are 'too addictive' ... what the heck ... I am not looking to get high or anything ... I just want to be able to have a med to make my ADD manageable.

Avatar f tn A good thyroid doctor will treat a hypo patient clinically by testing and adjusting Free T4 and Free T3 levels as needed to relieve symptoms, without being constrained by resultant TSH. However, you may well need to address your low cortisol before even starting on thyroid med. I would suggest that you get tested for Both Free T4 and Free T3 each time you go in for tests. Also, you should get tested for Vitamin D, B12, ferritin, and DHEA.
Avatar n tn The numerous reports may be the 1% who have the hair loss, so that doesn't prove the original drug trial %s were in error. Many people take this drug so if there was a large % with hair loss I would imagine it would have been reported and docs would stop prescribing it. That is a really interesting bit of information about the generics.
Avatar m tn I am a 30 year old who started taking ritalin and concerta (36mg - 72mg) on a regular basis for about 6 months about a year and a half ago. As a consequence I experienced erectile dysfunction. I stopped taking the meds and I still have erectile dysfunction. I have been off the meds for over a year now and I have not recovered my erectile function. I can only get a semi if I try really hard. I don't get morning boners any more and I don't get proper hard ons when watching porn either.
305005 tn?1358728290 Hi cindy I also have 2 boys adhd 17 and 14 years old they are now on 72 mgs of concerta which I think no medicines are 100% cure all but can be better than none. They were diagnosed years ago and also was on adderall it made them angry and aggressive, concerta has worked much better also tried straterra was the drug from hell for my 14 yr old he also has impulse behaviors you just have to go by trial and error what works for one does not work for all.
Avatar n tn Have you thought about trying a gluton-free and/or lactose free diet? You may have food allergies which can really adversely affect the way the body functions. Good luck!
Avatar f tn diagnosed a few days ago with ADD(no hyperactivity) amongst other things and am taking concerta...36 mg 1 to 2 times a day...seems to be a life saver so far but am uninsured, just getting back on my feet after a nasty divorce and losing everything but my children (Thank God). It is SOOO expensive. I have 3 children (out of 5) also diagnosed which prompted me to get checked..Anyone take Strattera with good results...
Avatar m tn It is possible that you were prescribed too much Concerta. Hitting the right amount is very much trial and error. Howevcr non of the symptoms you mentioned would indicate that (see bottom part on Diazepam). I know if I was taking 27 mgs of Concerta, I would be bouncing off the roof all day long. In short, I think (without knowing how long you were on Diazepam) that you are tapering off Diazepam too fast. And that you really, really need to check out with your doctor.
Avatar n tn She will be in 4th grade next year, and the academics really ramp up, so I feel like I need to find an extended-release med to help her. Right now she has been on one 10 mg. Ritalin, given once in the a.m. We tried Concerta, Ritalin ER and Adderall. All had really bad side effects - she couldn't sleep, was out of control emotional, very agitated. Then she would shift into being totally blank at times also.
16613731 tn?1449676204 Assuming I read your description correctly, you are still taking Concerta, right? If that's the case then be advised that Concerta, like all stimulants, has the side effect of hair loss(http://www.drugs.com/sfx/concerta-side-effects.html). It's likely that most doctors won't mention this, because it isn't a very prevalent side effect.
Avatar f tn My son has tried Ritalin, Dexodrine and Concerta. All have made him tic, but the concerta tics seem to last longer. He has been off for two weeks and although the neck jutting out has stopped, the clearing of the throat has not. I have removed him off all medication and am convinced the pros of the medicine DOES NOT out weigh the cons. Be careful parents! Make sure you do your research before placing your children on medication.
Avatar n tn My son is 9yrs old and he is currently on concerta and I can not continue to afford the medication please I truly need some kind of help. I make to much for medicaid and CHIPS. Please help me. Thanks, Ms.
Avatar f tn Concerta does not cause the enlarged heart, but definitely increases the heart rate and causes other chest pains, so cardiovascular monitoring is a MUST with all the ADHD-drug taking children. My son has a 5-6 mm hole in his heart and we get Eco every year, just because he is taking Concerta. So far, we were lucky and did not have to suspend taking it. If they say it - keep him off of it. I am sorry to say that.
