Concerta for depression

Common Questions and Answers about Concerta for depression

concerta

13415927 tn?1430701518 my psychiatrist was very dubious to put me on ADD medication as im an ex crystal meth addict. obvious reasons. ive been clean for 8 years now and have been on concerta for almost a year. but i am bipolar and have very bad anxiety. concerta works very well for my ADD but not for my anxiety, is there a better way to get the best of both worlds?
2083581 tn?1332307861 I currently use Ritalin for ADD and it also helps depression. Does anyone have suggestions for supplementing this with another drug. I have heard wellbutrin works well with Ritalin but I would like to here from someone with experience. Ritalin is the only drug that has ever helped me but when it wears off I am depressed again. (and I have tried Concerta and did like it) Any suggestions?
1756969 tn?1332437163 wondering if anyone has tried concerta for their adhd? i was on a few meds a few years ago but stopped taking them because nothing seemed to work. i am about to try going back on concerta 36mg and see if it will help. i also have depression and am starting a new med called celexa. any info will help. thanks!! not sure what i should be looking for in healthy changes.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Concerta for one year. This was to counteract the fatigue and sleepiness that I had been getting from taking Paxil for depression. Though Concertat was initially effective, it gradually became more of a detriment than help. It made me very irritable, unfocused, and moody. I have worked with my doctor to gradually phase concerta out from the 72m I was taking daily.
Avatar f tn Methylphenidate may be habit-forming and should be used only by the person it was prescribed for. Concerta should never be shared with another person, especially someone who has a history of drug abuse or addiction. Keep the medication in a secure place where others cannot get to it. What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking Concerta?
Avatar f tn You might want to talk to your doc about reducing your anti anxiety medication. Do you have the same doc for both the concerta and the effexor? Note, Concerta should last about 8 hours while the Vyvannse could go 10 to 12 hours. Also Concerta is a Methylphenidate, while Vyvannse is an Adderall based med and is stronger. You might want to try the Vyvannse again, but increase the dose slower.
5757880 tn?1395578022 Sandman, this is what I've bee told. Generic companies have to make a product that fits into a specific area of the brand name medication. Normally, the difference between generic and brand name and generic compared to another generic is nominal and goes completely unnoticed. Someone super sensitive may feel a different though. My son is now on medication for depression (been such a difficult year that I'd love to chat with you about) and I had this concern.
Avatar f tn Hi I have been on Concerta 56mg - 72mg on and off for several years. However, recently I came across a study that showed that long term use of the med impairs brain cells so I stopped abruptly. It has been years since I have been completely off the drug and I noticed that I have lost alot of my personality. I used to be so bubbly talkative and hammy. I no longer possess any of those qualities anymore, among other issues and I feel that they may be due to the long term use of the drug.
Avatar n tn My 12 year old son is on Concerta 54 mg. He has been on Concerta in gradual doses since kindergarten. Now when the medication is wearing off, he becomes angry and agressive. I have never seen this side of him before. He used to become depressed so we restructured our evening activities to work around the depression. I am at a loss and am very concerned. Thank you in advance for any input on this question.
Avatar m tn I have been going to the same psychiatrist for over 5 years and have been recently given Concerta about 4 months ago. My original diagnosis was depression/anxiety disorder and he believes I have a learning disability. During this time, the Concerta dose moved up 3 times and was given a new script. Some of these scripts were turned in during the same month. The doctor added on ritalin on a separate script one month.
Avatar m tn I need to get help for my son. He has always had depression problems and trouble controlling his anger. He does not want to just be put on medicine. He called me today and said he is tired of feeling like he wants to explode. It is like he turns into someone else when he gets so depressed. I don't have the money to pay a therepist and he has no insurance. He is 20 years old and has been dealing with this since early childhood.
Avatar n tn I started taking concerta 8 months ago and it has made ia great change in the fear I USED to have speaking in front of people . I till stutter but not near as often when speaking in front of adults .

Avatar n tn My 9 yr. old little girl has been on 18Mg of Concerta, with some success. The Dr. prescribed 5 mg. of aderall along with the Concerta, that has also had proven results for us. The Dr. now says to increase the Aderall to 10mg. so we did that today. She is now on 18mg of Concerta and 10mg of Aderall. What can we expect from this increase and is this combination to high of a doseafge for a 70 puond 9 yr. old.
Avatar f tn Concerta is almost identical to Ritalin.
Avatar m tn Thank you for your comments. If you don't mind sharing what med were you on for depression when you went Manic? I have read some information from Dr. Barkley about drug interactions and wondered if this would have been the case?
Avatar f tn My son is soon to be 17 years old. He has been on 54mg of Concerta for 4 years plus. Before that he was on Ritalin, both for ADD. This medication treatment was recommended some time ago to help him academically and I must say, it has not really helped all these years. He continues to struggle in school and has trouble with depression so I am writing to request some clarity. Recently, his doctor has recommended a higher dose of Concerta.
Avatar n tn My son has ADHD, complex tic disorder, and ODD as well as gluten and casein intolerance, hypothyroidism, and we had a peds neurologist doing all his med adjusting. He is 10 and on Concerta 54 mg (for last almost 3 years) and Zoloft 100 mg and Intuniv 2 mg and recently Risperdal 0.25 mg every am and 0.5 mg q pm. The neurologist wanted to add another med Abilify on board as he was still having some outburst behavior. I find this troubling that he wants my child on 5 psychoactive meds.
Avatar f tn Then last year the ex took him in for the headaches and started pushing the ADHD and the doctor gave him a generic concerta and sumatriptin for the headaches. the concerta helped him tremendously with his work but the headaches havent gotten better.
Avatar m tn It has helped alot with my focus and concentration but I get jitters, I have become socially awkward, my anxiety and depression has increased, and the crash I get from it gives me horrible headaches. The crash also makes me not want to be socially active. What should I do? and are there any other good ADHD meds that I should talk to my doctor about?
Avatar f tn Chest and stomach symptoms worsen when laying down, head symptoms worsen when standing up. Symptoms quickly come and go except for vision, coldness, nausea and burning, which are constant. Zomig tasted so bad as it eventually dripped my neck that I hacked a few times and a little blood came up. I have asthma, adhd, insommnia and depression. Two months ago I experienced an overdose on excedrin, clonidine and benadryl and recovered. At the time, I was informed of a potential heart murmur.
Avatar f tn So your son has been on Concerta for 2 years? What other medications did you try? My son has been taking Adderall for 3 years. All the other medications caused him to have headaches. One in particular gave him a migraine that landed us at the ER and him getting an MRI. The adderall, at 25 mg, has not affected him at all with adverse symptoms. He sleeps well, eats well, etc.
Avatar f tn We now switched him to concerta (lasts longer than focalin)...and added Prozac. Teacher really likes the results at school. However...evenings are hectic. He becomes very silly and immature. Often displaying autistic like behaviors--flapping hands, grunting, weird noises etc. Demeanor is relatively happy and giggly....Before just on ADHD meds...the withdrawal he was very angry and aggressive. He takes clonodine to sleep. But is very amped up at night. Could this be a side effect?
Avatar n tn Zolpidem (Ambien), Methylphenidate (Concerta), Clonidine, and Strattera. First, I do not believe my son should have ever been diagnosed w/ ADHD, I have done the research and written a paper as well as currently going through a publication on an article with my wife (not my son's mother) who is an assistant professor of counseling mental health.
Avatar m tn I have been on both stimulate (concerta, adderall) and non-stimulant (strattarra) drugs. I definitely feel that concerta worked very well for me. I have been on several psychotropic medications and I hated the side effects of many of them. For depression I have been on: paxil, Zoloft, amitriptiline, and webutrin. The only one that I would say did anything helpful for me was welbutrin, but that also tended to give me insomnia.
