concerta

Avatar n tn My daughter is 5 years old and has ADHD. She recently went on the drug Concerta, then her PCP prescribed cetirizine as well for hay fever that I didn't even realize she had. On a routine cardiology check for the Concerta meds, the cardiologist discovered my daughter had PACs. The cardiologist took her off all of her meds for 10 days and did another EKG. She still had the PACs even off meds. Now my daughter is on atenolol 2 mL per day, Concerta, and cetirizine all together.
Avatar f tn Since Melatonin is the master hormone that controls sleep patterns, many parents find that it will induce sleep in their ADHD children and help to alleviate the insomnia and sleep disturbances that go along with ADHD and ADHD treatment. Melatonin has been shown to reduce the amount of time it takes to fall asleep, lengthen the time one stays asleep, and increase daytime alertness.
1614250 tn?1298449081 Kelly is right in saying boundaries need to be set now and I think they are really important when a child has something like ADHD to cope with too As for the masturbating....well he is a 14 year old boy and I would think this is pretty common. So long as he is doing this privately then that is really his business.
Avatar f tn mutlivitamins and still prozac which is cut down from 10mg to 5mg to wean him off, he was on concerta 36mg for adhd, clonidine .1mg to help with sleep and prozac10mg to combat severe side effects, then after starting prozac. he was chewing on the inside of his lower lip so bad, 2 weeks later and he now has two scars..
Avatar f tn All I know is that the medication Rozerem which adjusts the sleep cycle in the exact same manner as melatonin is a safe and effective sleep aide but I don't know if its prescribed for children. Its complex with medications for children as the dosages and responses are very different than adults. All of the medications you mentioned are used for ADD and work but they are all activating as they are stimulants so its complex as regards sleep.
Avatar f tn was diagnosed with adhd about 2 mos ago and my doctor put me on 36mgs of concerta it seems to help with the impulse control, but I am still having an issue with my mind being in a thousand different places. I also have a seven year old son who was also diagnosed with adhd about a week ago and because of his size he is also on 36mg of concerta and it is making him calmer at home, but when I talked to his teacher today she said that she is not seeing any improvement at all.
Avatar n tn He is not a case of "child outlashing". Except for the hyperactivity he was an otherwise well behaved child. As I stated before... he did not throw tanturms, was very respectful to adults and children, played well with others, etc... He is not a zombie! While on the meds, he still plays with others and participates in class. He even plays baseball after school and takes art lessons. When he was not on the medication he was chewing on stuff all the time....
Avatar f tn my 7 year was diagnosed with adhd at 5 he was daytrana for 2 yrs and was doing well.now hes in 1st grade in acontained class the last 5 months have been hell for me.hes been going through physical agressive behavior in school so bad that they are making me look at diffrent schools next week because he has been suspended due to his behavior. he just started concerta the last 5 days but iv been through about a handfull of different med including bipolar medication.
Avatar f tn Did they try behavior management techniques? You can teach some ADHD children to sit down without medications - with reward systems, visual schedules, etc......
Avatar m tn Second is to try and deal with it with out meds. Third, sometimes the ADHD is just so overwhelming for a child that something extra is needed. His bio may of had alcohol and pharmaceutical drug dependencies because he was self medicating since he had no clue what was going on with him. Point being that if the meds are used correctly and if they are needed - then they are a useful part of coping with ADHD. So do your research - its for your childs welfare.
Avatar n tn Use of these drugs in combination would not be an unusual practice if done responsibly. It is not uncommon for children with complex emotional and behavioral issues to receive more than one psychotropic medication. That said, it is always useful to respectfully ask the physician if the patient actually requires multiple drugs, or if therapeutic results could be obtained with fewer medications or lower dosages.
Avatar m tn Opps, I was wrong. concerta is a stim drug. Here is better info: classes of medication are available for treating ADHD: * Stimulant medications, such as dextroamphetamine-based drugs (Adderall, Vyvanese) and methylphenidate-based drugs (Concerta, Daytrana, Ritalin). They are also available as generics. * Nonstimulant medication, such as the antidepressant bupropion (Wellbutrin and generic) or atomoxetine (Strattera), which is not available as a generic.
Avatar m tn So easy to change a diagnosis if the doctor believes it to be another condition. In Japan, children diagnosed with ADHD are given L-theanine. This is an natural amino acid from tea proven to help with ADHD symptoms. There are no adverse side effects. See another doctor with your concerns. Despite the diagnosis, there is no law stating a child had to be given any drug whatsoever. Drugging children is criminal i agree. Good luck.
Avatar n tn My girls are on Concerta and it helps with their ADHD, and they dont have any bad side effects. I know all kids are different, but you may want to talk to the doc about it and give it a shot.
Avatar f tn My 9 year old son has been on Concerta for about 3 years now and I am concerned whether it is true or a myth that ADD meds can stunt growth or slow down puberty process. Does anyone happen to know?
Avatar f tn //www.healing-arts.org/children/ADHD/nutritional.htm and also for herbal things http://www.healing-arts.org/children/ADHD/herbal.htm If you are interested I can also suggest some books that will help with learning techniques. m Best wishes.
Avatar n tn Interesting, I can find no mention of a 32mg dose of concerta. Is he on a 36 mg dose? if he is, "The maximum dosage of Concerta should not be greater than 0.9 mg per pound of body weight." fish oil is certainly something worth trying. There are ones out there developed specifically for kids (chewable, etc), and they will have the suggested dosage on the bottle. I really can't see any reason that primrose (I assume the oil) would be worth your money.
Avatar n tn Therefore, it can be treated with observation, medications for prophylaxis (which ends up being life-long), or with a special procedure called an electrophysiology study with radiofrequency ablation. If you are not comfortable with the care that she is receiving, it would be important to consider a second opinion, especially one from a pediatric electrophysiologist, a pediatric cardiologist who specializes in electrical problems with the heart.
Avatar f tn Its rare to hear from a person with add/adhd with their expieriances with the medicaions. I wanted to take my son off of concerta, due to ticks, but now you've given me something else to think about. This means more research for me but its worth it when it comes to my son.
Avatar n tn I have heard many times what you are both saying about your children and being on Concerta. and I want you to both do this for your child . Get them an EEG and don't take no form your childrens Doctors. I know this because my son started to have seizures once he was on these drugs and it could be from the drugs or because he never had ADD OR ADHD it was Seizures witch can look like ADD OR ADHD OR BOTH. And also please read and also take a look at these two sites below. http://www.drugs.
Avatar f tn The pyschiatrist actually prescribed Zoloft in the end for the anxiety, it has been FDA approved for use in children and she felt it was a better fit for him. Can I become part of your support group for parents of children sufffering from anxiety? I just want to help him feel better. He really has great empathy with other children, has a good sense of humour and can be a lot of fun, just so intense and extremely sensitive about what others think about him.
Avatar f tn The other thing I would do is take your son who has and is on Adderall to see a neurologist to make sure everything is OK with his brain .A lot of children who have been told they have add or adhd and even both add and adh are misdiagnosed because doctors ,teacher, parents don't think about having the children brains check for other things like Seizures.
13415927 tn?1430701518 my psychiatrist was very dubious to put me on ADD medication as im an ex crystal meth addict. obvious reasons. ive been clean for 8 years now and have been on concerta for almost a year. but i am bipolar and have very bad anxiety. concerta works very well for my ADD but not for my anxiety, is there a better way to get the best of both worlds?
Avatar n tn 15 yr old daughter was diag with adhd 2nd grade - although was family "joke" adhd long before. 1st on adderall with explosive behavior - had to try before could take straterra, insurance. Strattera was fine for sev yrs - although only limited imp - just enough to tolerate her. Problems with social interaction and her mouth - she's constantly argumentative and I believe ODD. After menstruation began, strattera appeared worthless.
