Concerta drug class

Common Questions and Answers about Concerta drug class

concerta

Avatar m tn If a patient is used to being on a stimulant drug for some time, withdrawing that drug would cause a general slowing down of the body, hence the extreme fatigue, lack of motivation and focus. Your body is going through an increased response of side effects from withdrawl, as you've been of this medication for a year which is why your symptoms may be more exaggerated. Stimulants are also known to provide a quick solution to lifting the mood, so depression is a side effect to watch out for.
Avatar m tn The Concerta will show up for one to three days (in a urine test) depending on how fast you metabolize. However from what I have read, it will show up in the initial screening as a general amphetamine. After a positive initial screening, the sample will be further tested using a different methodology that will specify the type of amphetamine. Of course, if you have taken your generic version of adderall after the concerta for a couple of days. That should be what shows up.
Avatar n tn m getting ready to request a different med as Concerta is a Tier 3 drug on my insurance plan where as Dexedrine and Adderal are Tier 1 and $30 cheaper per month. I hope to god the tics stop! I went off the meds for about 2-3 months and didn't notice tics but that my eyes still seemed misaligned.
Avatar n tn my son has be on concerta for about 8 months. Yes he focus better but his grades are know different for 2 terms now. He also has been diagnosis, actually the first diagnosis was a learning disability. He also get awards showing compassion and caring etc. on and off meds. His teachers have loved him in their class from jk. He plays travel sports and gets award again on and off meds. O and yes he is very mean on and off meds with his sisters but calms down better on the meds.
Avatar n tn I have two sons with ADHD. The 'upper meds' 'boots' is talking about are the ones the are in the amphetamine class...extremely addictive, if abused. Ritilan, Adderal, Focalin, Daytrana are a few more in that class. He/she also added that they are an recovering addict, so I assume that they have abused, or are afraid that they will abuse these meds. Boots: I know of one that isn't an 'upper'. It's called 'Concerta'.
Avatar n tn I have a 6 year old only child with ADHD, she are in the top of he class academically, but socialy she is falling apart, by interrupting all time in the class room, not following rules, being overly loud and out on the playground more or less being a bully. At home, I have a totally different kid, quiet, likes to read, do crafts, follows rules and mines her manners.
Avatar f tn Last month after getting on Celexa for a return of the panic attacks, he asked me to stop by the lab for some blood work. When I got the statement it was over 3 thousand dollars. He had ordered ten single drug class tests among other things. He never mentioned the tests beforehand. I wouldn't have felt so violated. He said the tests were routine for anyone taking a controlled substance. I've been on klonopin(1 1/2 mg per day) for five years. My other Dr. never tested me. This Dr.
Avatar f tn I only really realized that my behavior was a bit odd, when my friend kept telling me that I walk around and interrupt allot of people in class. We are in our final year of study so class time is very important. Even though I always hand everything in onetime, I always find it difficult to just sit and do it. I always get distracted! I can't help it if the patterns on my desk or the lines on my hands are more interesting than my dissertation. haha.
Avatar f tn Concerta does not cause the enlarged heart, but definitely increases the heart rate and causes other chest pains, so cardiovascular monitoring is a MUST with all the ADHD-drug taking children. My son has a 5-6 mm hole in his heart and we get Eco every year, just because he is taking Concerta. So far, we were lucky and did not have to suspend taking it. If they say it - keep him off of it. I am sorry to say that.
565294 tn?1216433315 my son is 8 and is adhd and is in"learning disorder"class at school he has a iep and is taking concerta to help with his concentration. but he has lost 4 pd this month any one else notice the same side effect? also i live in oswego Illinois has any one herd of any support groups out there for moms and dads? or classes to help parents with dealing with adhd behaviors and how to respond better or how to say things better (to add encouragement) its a ttough job somedays.
982251 tn?1248781387 Look up drug side effects for concerta. Maybe changing the medication might help, and it does take some time for the medication and there side effects to clear their system.
Avatar f tn I started taking 18 mg of Concerta once daily about 2 weeks ago. Oddly I have noticed two things: 1) I can no longer have my daily/morning coffee without severe nausea (even the pharmacist didn't have it as one of his warnings). 2) Despite the fact that it keeps me awake to the point that daytime napping is not possible I still feel exhausted most of the time which doesn't make much sense to me. Has anyone had anything like either of these things happen while they were taking it?
Avatar n tn If I remember, I think it was the med concerta that had caused the problems. Every child is different and reacts different to the stimulant medications. Just to let you know, the doctor may not think this is the problem and up the dose. But, when our doctor uped the dose for my son, the tic or chewing got worse. So, maybe trying a different med may be the answer.
Avatar m tn As far as I know, the only two are intuniv and concerta. They use different formulations. No clue which is better. I think it probably depends on the individual. Both do take a while to take effect (compared to a stimulant). If you google them, you will be able to see lots of anecdotal posts on how it worked for that poster or their children. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn now hes in 1st grade in acontained class the last 5 months have been hell for me.hes been going through physical agressive behavior in school so bad that they are making me look at diffrent schools next week because he has been suspended due to his behavior. he just started concerta the last 5 days but iv been through about a handfull of different med including bipolar medication. hes very sorry for hes behavior and will ask me mom why am i bad i wanna be good.
1575110 tn?1334664635 What is the most effective drug Concerta or Vyvanse or any other suggestions? I have heard of daytrana as well, but I'm an adult. I'm slowly getting everything back together.
Avatar m tn I stopped taking it for a while, and about a month ago, went back on the concerta. I take 36mg of extended release in the mornings when I have class or homework to do, and it does help me focus. However, since going back on it, I've noticed that I sometimes can't grasp words. Like I know what I'm talking about/trying to say, but I can't place a word with it. I know this is something that everyone gets, but it's happening with very high frequency when I'm on the concerta.
Avatar f tn ve read about extended release focalin verses extended release concerta is that focalin works faster (within 30 minutes of taking it) and is better for a child that needs the help prior to leaving for school and that type of thing. So, it is reported that it begins working fast in the morning and continues to control symptoms during the day and then tapers off at hours 10 to 12.
Avatar f tn My son is twenty nine. He lives at home and is ADHD. He is prescribed Concerta. 2X 36mg.per day. He is also perscribed 2X 5 mg. ritalin per day. He took ritalin SR. during high school, but I gave him his meds every AM so he would not forget. His dose was much lower then. Since college he binges on them when he gets the prescription filled. He then crashes and sleeps for a couple of days. He can't see a problem with his behavior.
Avatar n tn My son is 9yrs old and he is currently on concerta and I can not continue to afford the medication please I truly need some kind of help. I make to much for medicaid and CHIPS. Please help me. Thanks, Ms.
Avatar f tn Hi. Concerta is the same drug as Ritalin, I believe, and could well be the cause of your wakefulness and loss of appetite. I take Adderall, a similar drug, to cope with fatigue, and it does dampen my hunger, for sure. It's a good consequence for me, if unintended. I take 20mg of the extended release type each morning, and can feel it wearing off by mid-afternoon. It doesn't affect my sleep. It's possible your dosage is too high, so a consultation with your doctor is order.
Avatar f tn I can see being on V and perhaps adderall in the late after noon. Or concerta and ritalin in the late afternoon. Since the Concerta/ritalin are the same type of meds. Same thing for Vyvannse and Adderall. Point being, why was the V not working for you? What symptoms did you have. I would think that the two could have been over dosing you. Did you ever try just V alone?
1031310 tn?1259857386 Honestly, I think concerta is a way safer drug for CHILDREN in general who do not have reactions to concerta (and reactions to concerta are very rare). I would not make the same statement about adults... probably both are safe for adults (and reactions are rare). But for CHILDREN, concerta is probably the safer of the two UNLESS these sudden auditory hallucinations really are a result of the concerta and not a result of something weird that happened at a new "church"...
Avatar f tn I have child that was also on Concerta 36. There are two types of this medication. Concerta and Concerta CR which is controller release, I believe it was called. However, I found that concerta is not a very effective drug for dealing with ADHD. You might want to have the school give her the second dose at 1pm at school, this way it will avoid the medicine lapsing while she is at school.
Avatar m tn Hey Chris, I just wanted to add that while some of the symptoms you described could be coming from the Concerta (it never hurts to google concerta and check out the symptoms), several are also ADHD symptoms - particularly the, ",mood swings, thoughts of suicide, couldnt fall asleep, depression, and anger." So I would make very sure that you are aware of what ADHD can do to you. It is your disease, and the best way to conquer it is with information about it.
Avatar f tn Hi I have been on Concerta 56mg - 72mg on and off for several years. However, recently I came across a study that showed that long term use of the med impairs brain cells so I stopped abruptly. It has been years since I have been completely off the drug and I noticed that I have lost alot of my personality. I used to be so bubbly talkative and hammy. I no longer possess any of those qualities anymore, among other issues and I feel that they may be due to the long term use of the drug.
5757880 tn?1395578022 After spending $186.00 for the generic form of concerta I'm about ready to cry... no, I have already cried. My insurance changed plans to a high deductible and now I must meet a $2500.00 in regards to my son's medication. I have already checked with medicad/medicare, the martketplace and there is nothing my insurance company nor employeer can do. Can anyone give me any information in how I can lower my cost or perhaps is there a cheaper alternative? Thank You!
