But of course the pill doesn't come that way. You might ask what she thinks about starting him out at 10mgs? Hope this helps. Let me know how the prescription card works from the Indiana site.
Avatar f tn If he is getting mad at his sister under Cocerta and was not before Concerta, maybe the dosage is too high. Talk to his doctor about decreasing it or changing to another medicine such as Metadate CD.
Avatar m tn We recently started seeing a psychatrist and he said the school meds are way too high and should only take at most 56mg for school. He seemed ok on the higher dose. What should I do?
Avatar m tn Dr. Charles Parker in his book, New ADHD Medication Rules, on page 118 talk about going over the top or too high a dosage. He says, "at the top you become more irritable, sometimes depressed, unfocused, or hyperfocused, lose your appetite, have difficulty sleeping well, or feel stoned." On page 119, " More symptoms at the Top: confusion, disorientatiion, forgetfulness intensifies, cognitive stress, anxiety each increased, while self-expression diminishes.
Avatar n tn it depends, what are they taking them for and how long? The concerta is for ADD my daughter takes it and it's not good to mix it with anything. IIt' s like a speed.
Avatar f tn Maybe it is too high of a dosage or the wrong medicine. If she is behaving at home, maybe you can consider a medicine that is not as lasting as Concerta. At this age, you probably should only medicate her for school. Concerta is a 12 hour medicine. Many kids do not sleep well when on these type of long lasting meds. You might be better off with a shorter acting medicine such as Metadate CD (8 hours only) or Ritalin and maybe a lower dosage.
Avatar m tn ive been on concerta since i was 10, when they were figuring out the dosage, this would happen to me when the dose was too high. so they lowered the dose and ive been on the same dosage for almost 12 years now. so my suggestion is to lower the dosage if possible. though youll notice side effects the first couple of weeks as the body gets used to the meds. so even if you switch meds you may notice side effects anyways.
Avatar n tn s doctor is concerned about increasing the dosage because of the appetite-suppressing side effect, and if your son is too thin for his size, he may be concerned about that. Having said that, if the medication is not helping him, then something needs to be done. Continuing to give him medication that is not working is not a good idea. You should take this back to your son's doctor and get specifics about why his weight and an increased dosage don't mix.
Avatar m tn Lots of people would love to have that problem. I think you are taking too much Concerta and using it to try to lose weight. That's why you aren't hungry. The thing is, you aren't overweight. If you do exercises to target your abs you can develop your abs. Losing weight will just make you lose muscle and become emaciated. This could be very harmful to your long term health. Your posts make me wonder if you may be anorexic.
Avatar f tn t last long enough - dose is low. If it lasts too long - dose is high. Concerta should last for about 8 hours. Was he having his speech problems all day long or only more so in the afternoon? What made you decide to lower his dose? I had assumed that these problem happened before you lowered the dose?
Avatar f tn my child only takes one 36mg concerta tablets of a morning and lasts all day the recommended dosage is 1mg per kilogram the dosage you have stated there your child must weigh roughly 72kilograms???????? whick i doubt. that dosage worries me. Its not a easy road.
Avatar f tn Usually, and I am not an expert, it means that the dosage is too high. You might ask the doctor to reduce it. How much is he taking? You could reduce it by splinting the pill or oprning the capsule and reducing the medicine inside. Also the "immediate release" kind of Ritalin seems to have more side effects than the "slow release" kind. The slow release form is smoother on the system. What type is he taking and how many dosages per day?
Avatar n tn My son is taking Concerta 36mg. in the AM...and an afternoon dose of 10mg methylphenidate...HE DOES NOT HAVE AN Appetite...He says No thank You to EVERYTHING FOOD That I offer him since starting these meds.... He is 10 years old and have always had a great appetite.....HELP ....
Avatar n tn The dose might be too high. I've had similar things happen when I was on too high a dosage of Adderall. If I'm not mistaken, Vyvanse is a longer-duration version of dextroamphetamine - not too far from adderall, which is a mixture of amphetamine salts (mostly dextroamphetamine). Mention it to your pdoc - chances are it's from the dosage and it needs to be changed a bit. When mine was a bit too high, I noticed weird things like that, such as my tongue would continually rub my teeth.
5757880 tn?1395578022 I kind of wonder if his Concerta dose is high enough? The doc will typically start you out low and wait to see how things are going. Also wonder when you remarked about other disorders if you have ever checked out Sensory Processing disorder. Your remarks about the tactile things rang a bell for me. You might want to check it out here - http://www.sensory-processing-disorder.
Avatar n tn Interesting, I can find no mention of a 32mg dose of concerta. Is he on a 36 mg dose? if he is, "The maximum dosage of Concerta should not be greater than 0.9 mg per pound of body weight." fish oil is certainly something worth trying. There are ones out there developed specifically for kids (chewable, etc), and they will have the suggested dosage on the bottle. I really can't see any reason that primrose (I assume the oil) would be worth your money.
Avatar f tn You can contact Concerta on their website and ask them if they will have any coupons for that dosage at another time.
Avatar n tn I do think that you need to see a child development peditrician or child psychiatrist that specializes in ADHD. Was he formally diagnosed with ADHD by a child psychologist or specialist, other than a pediatrician? Pediaticians are usually not qualified to eveluate ADHD. I am also surprised that your doctor would tell you to up the medication if the medication is causing tics.
Avatar m tn so a definite no go there - Adderall was an improvement over Concerta but still left me with too much stimulant and less clear thinking. I proceeded to use Adderall for over a year until I had a friend told me about Vyvanse. My doc prescribed me 70mg Vyvanse, to compare with my Adderall dose previously prescribed. When feeling the effects of Vyvanse it is truly a saving grace and I really feel "limitless".
Avatar n tn My doctor recently started me on 40 mg of prozac a little over 2 weeks ago. I have taken numerous depression drugs in the past where my doc has started me on a very low dosage and worked me up to higher dosages but on prozac we went straight to 40 mg. I have been having headaches, nausua and dizziness. I thought these symptoms would fade away but I have had no luck. I'm beginning to wonder if this dosage is too high. I don't know anything about prozac....
Avatar f tn The adderall, at 25 mg, has not affected him at all with adverse symptoms. He sleeps well, eats well, etc. Perhaps, Concerta at this high of a dose, has made the drug "not right" for him anymore since he has developed new tactile, crying, etc symptoms. I would make an appointment with the doctor and discuss these new symptoms. He could be developing depression because of these new symptoms.
1768088 tn?1409087815 The doc did start her off kind of high. Probably because of the amount of Concerta she was on. But typically docs start you off lower and wait to see how it goes. It sounds like she might be "over the top" http://www.corepsych.com/2009/04/adhd-medications-use-the-therapeutic-window-corepsych-radio/ Also, a high protein breafast will make a difference in how long the meds will last according to Dr. Parker. The better the breakfast, the longer the meds will last.
Avatar f tn My son has been taking Concerta xl 36mg for over a year now during school term for ADHD with no symptom until recently. He now grunt or groan and has involuntary spasm. Doctors dont seem to help much they just advise me that over time it should go. I make sure he is on an healthy diet at all time but with not much help. Any suggestions please!
Avatar f tn ve read about extended release focalin verses extended release concerta is that focalin works faster (within 30 minutes of taking it) and is better for a child that needs the help prior to leaving for school and that type of thing. So, it is reported that it begins working fast in the morning and continues to control symptoms during the day and then tapers off at hours 10 to 12.
Avatar f tn Im not good with converting pounds to kilograms but with the concerta it is roughly 1mg for every kilo.
Avatar n tn t get high off it anymore, but desperately need to clean the house - my friend gave me an 18mg concerta. I've had them before and they let me get all the house work done. My question, is it okay to take with such a large amount of xanax? (This is out of harm reduction) Drugs.com says no interaction, but I just want to make sure. People have told me the xanax will kill the stimulant high, some others have said the stimulant will put you in withdrawal...
