Concerta dosage and weight

Common Questions and Answers about Concerta dosage and weight

concerta

Avatar n tn In general, no - the dosage is not based on weight. However, perhaps your son's doctor is concerned about increasing the dosage because of the appetite-suppressing side effect, and if your son is too thin for his size, he may be concerned about that. Having said that, if the medication is not helping him, then something needs to be done. Continuing to give him medication that is not working is not a good idea.
Avatar m tn I agree with Sandman, that is a high dose. I definitely think that is what is killing your appetite. I always get really hungry when I don't take my meds. If you just started a new prescription, you will just get used to it and start eating normally after a few weeks. I'd try lowering the dosage slightly and see what happens. You could also take a few days off taking your meds and see if your appetite returns.
Avatar n tn can my son age 5 take concerta 32mg and fish oil and evening primrose and if so what mg of the fish oil and how many mg for the primrose can he take a day
5757880 tn?1395578022 t go back to Vyvanse - he became a bit more aggressive and over-emotional when he was on it in the end. That is when they switched him to Concerta. The doctor said she was going to move him to Plain Methylphenidate (20mg / Twice a Day) but it will be for (3) times a day at 15mg. She is hoping since it's similar to Concerta it will work for him. They also mentioned taking the script to Wal-Mart and I wouldn't have to pay alot for it. Do you know if that's true?
Avatar f tn my child only takes one 36mg concerta tablets of a morning and lasts all day the recommended dosage is 1mg per kilogram the dosage you have stated there your child must weigh roughly 72kilograms???????? whick i doubt. that dosage worries me. Its not a easy road.
1756969 tn?1332437163 thanks my dr is weening me off of setraline and putting me on celexa. i hope this doesnt cause weight gain or increased appetite and i am also starting concerta for my adhd. phew i hate taking all these fricking meds. ugh~!
Avatar f tn My 9 year old son has been on 18mg of Concerta for three years now and it's been great for him. Unlike Ritalin, Concerta is taken only once in the morning so it starts to wear off in time for dinner and definately on time for going to bed. The problem with Ritalin seems to be that it's a difficult come down and makes going to sleep at night very uncomfortable. Concerta has been great for my son.
Avatar f tn If he is getting mad at his sister under Cocerta and was not before Concerta, maybe the dosage is too high. Talk to his doctor about decreasing it or changing to another medicine such as Metadate CD.
558991 tn?1226060828 I advised her against it, saying diet and excersise are the best options, but she has a lot of trouble loosing weight, like most of my family. I am very worried that Concerta mixed with any weight loss medications can cause problems. Are my fears rational? Thanks.
Avatar f tn You can contact Concerta on their website and ask them if they will have any coupons for that dosage at another time.
Avatar f tn and she put me back on lamictal 100 mg final dose, 25mg serquel at bedtime to sleep and 36mg of concerta a day and I feel great and have not gained any weight at all, actually seemed to have lost a few pounds and able to keep a lower weight. Maybe it is the abilify.
Avatar f tn You might be better off with a shorter acting medicine such as Metadate CD (8 hours only) or Ritalin and maybe a lower dosage. At 5 years old, it is very hard to get the right medicine and doasage to work. Make sure that you have a good doctor and you are communicating with him/her. Be patient and give your child lots of positive rewards (verbal and otherwise).
Avatar f tn t feel a very big difference but did realise that I was more focussed and felt more tired at night and got more sleep. So after that month the concerta dosage stayed the same but the pdoc gave me 25mg lamictal with it. He said something about having a mood disorder, this after i filled out another questionair that, to me, sounded exactly like the adhd questionair. I told the doc that i really don't want to just keep changing the meds the whole time.
Avatar n tn My 11 year old son is currently taking Dexadrine. He has slowly increased to 20 mg in the morning. His teacher and myself (my son too) have noticed a postitive change in his work output at school and during homework sessions. Two of the side effects are of great concern to me. My son can't sleep until well after 10:30 pm. (we are trying Melatonin, but haven't found the right dosage). The other side effect that is most troubling is the loss of appetite.
Avatar m tn My 6 year old DD was started on concerta about a month and a half ago. This is the first medication they suggested to us. She seems to be doing really well in school but the side effects at home are becoming hard for us to handle. SHe has become very nonaffectionate, emotional, withdrawn, and seems to be uninterested in life. She also will not eat at all. She is eating maybe one meal a day. I am wondering if we switch medications, will the side effects be the same/as bad?
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with ADHD (to add to my list of other mental health issues) at the age of 21 and was put on Concerta as treatment. Well, three years has passed and my dosage has increased to 108 mg/morning. At 72 mg I started developping speech problems and then they worsened at 90 mg. It was so bad, that ny doctor reduced my dose but later on he decided to increase it back up as I was having a lot of struggles.
Avatar m tn 100 mg of topamax daily, which I'm very consistent about because I've already dealt with withdrawal of that and I don't want to deal with it again. I've never taken topamax and concerta concurrently, the topamax I started about five months ago and tolerate very well. My doctor didn't think there would be a problem with the two medications together.
Avatar f tn My 8 year old son was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 6 years old. After trying a few medications, his doctor chose Concerta as his daily medicine. It seemed to help a little with his so called "hyper" behavior. However, the doctor has increased the dosage a few times and my son is now taking 54mg.
Avatar f tn So, it is reported that it begins working fast in the morning and continues to control symptoms during the day and then tapers off at hours 10 to 12. Concerta may have a slightly better effect in those last two hours but less of an effect early on in the day after taking it. Both have a pretty similar side effect profile and you are familiar with these from your child's current medication.
Avatar f tn My son has been taking Concerta xl 36mg for over a year now during school term for ADHD with no symptom until recently. He now grunt or groan and has involuntary spasm. Doctors dont seem to help much they just advise me that over time it should go. I make sure he is on an healthy diet at all time but with not much help. Any suggestions please!
Avatar m tn In addition I am tapering off diazepam and down to 2mg in the morning and 1 at night. Everytime I try to get off the concerta I get terrible anxiety from it. I have it to a degree while on it also. I want off but my dr who takes 3 weeks to get into anyway, won’t switch me to a med I can taper off of. I know 3 weeks is a short time compared to what most of you have been through. But can someone please tell me how long my withdrawals are going to last??
Avatar f tn Is this to much med. for her? She weighs 70 pounds. We are starting the Aderall 10 mg today and we are worried about the side affects. How does this combination of meds. work and what can we expect from this combo. We need to know the good and bad.
1031310 tn?1259857386 I see your post is from a few yrs ago but I wanted to add that I was prescribed concerta as an adult- I have no other medical issues or mood disorders but an APRN said I had ADD (and I think she's correct). I started a very low dose of concerta and it was fine- no side effects and I noticed a slight improvement in my processing- then she upped the dose a bit and after about 2 weeks I noticed a pattern emerging whenever I forgot to take the med.
Avatar n tn My son is taking Concerta 36mg. in the AM...and an afternoon dose of 10mg methylphenidate...HE DOES NOT HAVE AN Appetite...He says No thank You to EVERYTHING FOOD That I offer him since starting these meds.... He is 10 years old and have always had a great appetite.....HELP ....
Avatar f tn Concerta has really helped my son, but he has lost his appetite and it causes him to lose weight periodically. I like the idea of Melatonin and will try that for both him and myself. Thanks for the info.
982251 tn?1248781387 I am not a doctor, but my son was also on concerta, and that can be a side effect of that. We had success switching him to Straterra, out of everything he's tried that has the least side effects, and it's once a day, dosing is based on weight, and even adults take it who have adult add. Look up drug side effects for concerta. Maybe changing the medication might help, and it does take some time for the medication and there side effects to clear their system.
Avatar n tn my son was on adderall and concerta and both can cause seizures.and now my son has had seizures since 2006 and still is to this day even with trying different medicines ,and the VNS put in last month. try giving her vitamins like omega 3 and b6 and see if that helps.I am trying it right now to see if it helps my son with his adhd.and my son is not on anything for his adhd after what we have been threw with the other two drugs. best of luck to you ,and god bless you and your daughter.
