We now switched him to concerta (lasts longer than focalin)...and added Prozac. Teacher really likes the results at school. However...evenings are hectic. He becomes very silly and immature. Often displaying autistic like behaviors--flapping hands, grunting, weird noises etc. Demeanor is relatively happy and giggly....Before just on ADHD meds...the withdrawal he was very angry and aggressive. He takes clonodine to sleep. But is very amped up at night. Could this be a side effect?
Three weeks ago, the Psychiatrist added in Intuniv...OH MY GOSH...the Concerta and Intuniv were PERFECT....Great days at school and an amazing kid emerged...Then at the end of two weeks he developed a tic...This was so horrible...They were happening about 12 - 16 per minute. raised eyebrows, eyes rolling to back of the head, head tilt to the side and a humming sound. We called Psych. and Concerta was stopped. However a week later, the tics are still here...not as frequent...
Prozac and Paxil both significantly block the pathway for the metabolism of Adderall and all the amphetamine products. all drs love to push pills and you are on a new type of ssri med with cymbalta and the old prozac pills back in the olden days and i dont hear good things about the tricyclics. can cause eventaully strokes and other negative pills side effects. why are you on 2 anti depression meds. take one or the other. you need to be open and tell dr what you want not what he wants. trust me!!
mutlivitamins and still prozac which is cut down from 10mg to 5mg to wean him off, he was on concerta 36mg for adhd, clonidine .1mg to help with sleep and prozac10mg to combat severe side effects, then after starting prozac. he was chewing on the inside of his lower lip so bad, 2 weeks later and he now has two scars..
My eldest son, 25, has OCD-O. At 17 he became very depressed (OCD not diagnosed as yet) so went on prozac. Since then, because of various side-effects (bladder/sexual), his psychiatrist switched him to zoloft, then paxil, effexor, back to zoloft, then prozac, all the while trying to get rid of the side-effects. They helped his depression, but not his obsessive thoughts. He tried 'cognitive behavioral therapy', which helped immensely. Yoga & meditation also help.
Hello all! I have had attention problems since icould remember. Im 24 now. But only in the year or so I've realized that it has actually caused a lot of problems study wise for me. I feel constantly bored or loos interest in the smallest tasks and tend not to sleep allot because it feels like I can't switch the conversations off in my head. I only really realized that my behavior was a bit odd, when my friend kept telling me that I walk around and interrupt allot of people in class.
I have never heard of Concerta and V prescribed together. And ya, it would wake you up since it is good for about 8 hours. I really think that you need to talk to your doc and start over with a low dose of one type of med and slowly work your way up.
And, by the way, exhaustion caused by lack of sleep, lack of vitamins, whatever will make all your symptoms much, much worse. Get a high protein drink and take it with breakfast. \
Are you having trouble sleeping at night?
My daughter is nearly 11 years old and has been taking Concerta (now on 36mg) since March. The doctor recommended a switch to Strattera for the reason that it works 24 hours (Concerta is effective for only 12 hours) and will help my daughter concentrate more. I have no idea whether Strattera is a better alternative, can anyone tell me if this is true?
12 to 14 hours for Vyvanse and 8 to 10 for Concerta. Thats very close to all day coverage and not necessary.
Second, they are of two different chemical classes. Concerta is a methylphenidate based medicine, while Vyvanse is an amphetamine based med. Usually you go to an amphetamine based because your methylphenidate is not working for you.
The only possible reason I can think of to take both would be to turn off your mind at night so you could go to sleep and stay asleep.
Hummm, I wonder if she had been prescribing Adderall and Prozac together and then found out the kids got meaner on the Adderall? Anyway, here is Dr. Parkers alternative antidepressants - "My best advice to anyone with a similar situation is immediately get off the Prozac and replace with one of the several clean antidepressants out there. Interaction is interaction – not maybe interaction. [Effexor, venlafaxine, Pristiq, Lexapro, & Celexa are all quite clean on 2D6].

Your doctor is being smart to not put you on a combination of Adderall and Concerta. They are both nervous system stimulants and together they can cause cardiac events such as a heart attack... How long have you been on the Bupropion? It can take 6-8 weeks to have any effect on your body..but that drug in most cases is not used to treat ADD and studies have proven that its not very effective in treating ADD.
