Concerta and loss of appetite

Common Questions and Answers about Concerta and loss of appetite

concerta

Avatar f tn Concerta is the same drug as Ritalin, I believe, and could well be the cause of your wakefulness and loss of appetite. I take Adderall, a similar drug, to cope with fatigue, and it does dampen my hunger, for sure. It's a good consequence for me, if unintended. I take 20mg of the extended release type each morning, and can feel it wearing off by mid-afternoon. It doesn't affect my sleep. It's possible your dosage is too high, so a consultation with your doctor is order.
Avatar n tn Strattera is a treatment for ADHD that is not in the psychostimulant family of medications. It does not suppress appetite and is quite an effective medication, particularly for those children who are inattentive but not hyperactive.
Avatar n tn t found the right dosage). The other side effect that is most troubling is the loss of appetite. When we went to see his specialist, 6 days ago, he'd lost 4.5 lbs (in 40 days). When I weighed him tonight on my own scale, he's down another 6lbs. I know there is a difference between the scale at the hospital and my scale, but it isn't likely 6 lbs. The sleeping issue we are working on and are quite hopeful. The weight loss is quite frightening.
Avatar n tn My son is taking Concerta 36mg. in the AM...and an afternoon dose of 10mg methylphenidate...HE DOES NOT HAVE AN Appetite...He says No thank You to EVERYTHING FOOD That I offer him since starting these meds.... He is 10 years old and have always had a great appetite.....HELP ....
Avatar m tn One of Concerta's side effects is the loss of appetite or reduced appetite. It is a central nervous system stimulant and is released through out the day. Sounds like the effects of the Concerta wearing off towards the end of the day? Have you talked to her Dr about how she is responding at home? I will give you a link that I use often for drugs on ADHD and Cancer. It's very user friendly and they keep it very simple to get around.
14987738 tn?1437742035 Vyvanse will not make your stomach shrink. A loss of appetite is normal. And of course, if you are not eating, your stomach will shrink a bit. And, I doubt that you are feeling more depressed because of the Vyvanse. You are feeling depressed because of you stopped the zoloft and because of your medical condition. Depression and anxiety are a very common co-disorders of ADHD and while V can help with some of the reasons for the depression. It doesn't happen overnight.
565294 tn?1216433315 Hi, my son is 10 and he was on every single kind of medication out there for ADHD and responded to none so I took him off and he is getting an assessment done (As I have Bipolar disorder). He was worse on the pills than off....mood wise. But he lost a ton of weight....he was always being called chubby before he started concerta and adderall....now everyone is worried he is too thin.....so yes it does suppress the appetite.
558991 tn?1226060828 She is now 18 and she takes Concerta 72 mg. daily. Because of her ADHD, she has become a compulsive eater and is now very obese. Now that she is 18, she wants to try weight loss pills like Alli and Lipozene. I advised her against it, saying diet and excersise are the best options, but she has a lot of trouble loosing weight, like most of my family. I am very worried that Concerta mixed with any weight loss medications can cause problems. Are my fears rational? Thanks.
Avatar m tn Lots of people would love to have that problem. I think you are taking too much Concerta and using it to try to lose weight. That's why you aren't hungry. The thing is, you aren't overweight. If you do exercises to target your abs you can develop your abs. Losing weight will just make you lose muscle and become emaciated. This could be very harmful to your long term health. Your posts make me wonder if you may be anorexic.
Avatar f tn Hi, i was diagnosed with severe clinical depression just about a year ago and have been put on zoloft. I started my dose at 50mg and am now at 200mg. I also take concerta for focus help at 100mg. when i first was depressed but not yet diagnosed i steadily gained weight till i was overweight at about 147lbs. i am 5'6" and a good weight for me is anywhere between 125-135. I am now 109, one year after starting treatment.
Avatar n tn I do not see it on the side effects list for this med but I do see loss of appetite and with my son I see just the opposite, he wants to eat al of the time and he doesn't seem to get full very easy at all. He has gained a lot of weight being on this med. Does anyone else have this problem and has anyone had their child checked for the accidents they are having with their bowls? What did your doctor say could be the problem?
Avatar f tn My 8 year old son was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 6 years old. After trying a few medications, his doctor chose Concerta as his daily medicine. It seemed to help a little with his so called "hyper" behavior. However, the doctor has increased the dosage a few times and my son is now taking 54mg.
Avatar m tn 100 mg of topamax daily, which I'm very consistent about because I've already dealt with withdrawal of that and I don't want to deal with it again. I've never taken topamax and concerta concurrently, the topamax I started about five months ago and tolerate very well. My doctor didn't think there would be a problem with the two medications together.
Avatar n tn s doctor is concerned about increasing the dosage because of the appetite-suppressing side effect, and if your son is too thin for his size, he may be concerned about that. Having said that, if the medication is not helping him, then something needs to be done. Continuing to give him medication that is not working is not a good idea. You should take this back to your son's doctor and get specifics about why his weight and an increased dosage don't mix.
Avatar m tn Concerta changed all that and for the first three and half years I was perfectly fine except the occasional headaches, palpitation and loss of appetite. But after a life time of hell I thought of little of those side effects which was why last year, I felt stable enough to leave UK and settle in a small Island in the Mediterranean where there are no sophisticated specialist medical facilities nearby. However, things started to wrong about six months ago.
Avatar n tn but it is questionable to me why none of the medications work for her and none of the medications cause a loss of appetite, she actually seems to always to be hungry. I do not know where else to go...two psyhiatrists, one psychologist, and out family doctor... Now we have to make a change of some kind she has elevated liver enzyme and increased heart rate so family doctor wants to take her off her adderall. Any thoughts???
Avatar m tn Hello, I hear that you are struggling to eat as a result of loss of appetite. This may or may not be related to the medication you are taking. I would recommend sharing this information with the doctor who prescribed these medications for you so that he/she may assess your symptoms and choose the best course of action. Warmly, Dr.
Avatar f tn I have been dealing with gynecological problems, high HR and BP, loss of appetite, and terrible sleep. It is overwhelming to sort out all this stuff. Thankfully, two of the gynecological issues have been resolved. hurray! Nuts are one of the things I have found myself able to eat, probably for the reasons you mentioned, Heiferly. I feel full fast so nuts are a good way to get myself to eat without having to eat a large volume of food.
Avatar f tn shes active enough and her moods are fine shes just the same apart fron this loss of appetite and she takes ages to eat it..she has always been a slow eater so thats nothing new but this is so slow half the time it goes cold then even i wouldnt want to eat it..any suggestions or do you think i should get her checked out..

Avatar f tn If im cooking, after sometime i feel like throwing up coz i cant look at the food i was cooking! I miss my appetite. Cant even eat fast. I eat porridge and oatmeal and takes me forever to finish a bowl. Grrrrr. Oh well, anything for our babies.
Avatar f tn Hi I am currently 10w2d pregnant and have no appetite at all and just don't feel like eating? I feel nauseous and try to eat but nothing appeals to me. Any advice?
Avatar f tn At least you are getting back into the habit of it and this may also trigger your appetite to come back to normal. Hope this helps!
569458 tn?1221392419 Yeah everyones different but, everyone seems to have a major loss of appetite. On day 7 I was forcing a little bit of toast, and bland foods down, but everything tasted horrible for about 2 weeks. I lost 15lbs but, it caused me to go to ER b/c my potasssium levels were very low. So they gave me a magnesium IV and a 10 day supply of potassium pills. After that I was eating anything and everything in site....lol.
1084115 tn?1385228589 i am about 6 weeks post treatment, and did 48 weeks of triple. i lost a lot of weight the last 2 months of treatment. early in treatment i began to lose desire for food due to nausea and had to really force that 20gms of fat down with the incivek. somwhere in the middle of treatment i lost the usual hunger sensations and it seemed to get more extreme towards the end. now at six weeks post treatment i am finding my desire for food is increasing.
Avatar f tn t have many cravings... An egg and toast for breakfast, a protein shake for lunch etc... Apples and bananas and nuts for extra fiber and nutrients..
Avatar f tn I hear that loss of appetite isn't an MS symptom. I've had problems with appetite ever since my gall bladder attack a few months ago. While this is causing me to lose weight, it's a little disconcerting - I love food too. The only thing that drives me to eat is a rumbling tummy, and it really has to rumble. When I was taking steroids, I had more appetite, not less, but I'm sure it's different for everyone.
