Common Questions and Answers about Complete blood count mcv mch

blood

3211536 tn?1359385569 (MCV), is a measure of the average red blood cell size that is reported as part of a standard complete blood count. The MCV is calculated by dividing the total volume of packed red blood cells (also known as hematocrit) by the total number of red blood cells. The resulting number is then multiplied by 10. The red blood cells get packed together when they are spun around at high speeds in a device called a centrifuge.

Avatar m tn What were her other lab parameters? Do you know what her white blood cell count or platelet count were? Also, what kind of symptoms does she have - how was this initially detected in her?
Avatar m tn this is a normal CBC or complete blood count. It has nothing to do with HIV testing.
Avatar m tn Red blood cell count Male: 4.32-5.72 trillion cells/L* (4.32-5.72 million cells/mcL**) Hemoglobin Male: 13.5-17.5 grams/dL*** (135-175 grams/L) Hematocrit Male: 38.8-50.0 percent White blood cell count 3.5-10.
Avatar n tn MY BLOODWORK CAME BACK TAGGED WITH HIGH MCV AND HIGH MCH BUT LOW RDW. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
Avatar f tn Just looking at it, I know that a low MCV and a low MCH means there is an issue with the number (most likely) of red blood cells. Now the MCH level is really borderline for even being low. It's pretty much .5 away. But the other often means anemia. There are other things to look at though. His kidney function, liver function, if there is a bleeding issue or nutrition issue.
Avatar f tn WBC-white blood cell count, RBC-red blood cell count, TSH-thyroid stimulating hormone, T4-thyroxine, HGB-hemoglobin, HCT-hematocrit, MCV-mean corpuscular value, MCH- mean corpuscular hemoglobin, MCHC-mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration, RDW-red cell distribution width, PLT-platelets. According to my lab book: Mosby's diagnostic and laboratory test reference, the following numbers are within normal range - WBC 5-10 MCHC 32 - 36 RBC male 4.7 - 6.
Avatar f tn Our CBC blood test no way tells anything about HIV infection.
Avatar f tn ve been experiencing headaches (intensity and location keep changing but mostly at top of head, forehead and become more intense at night), weakness, tiredness, restlessness and mental exhaustion for 2 weeks. I went to a GP and he ordered a Complete Blood Count test. It may be a few weeks before I might be able to visit my doctor again, so I thought maybe somebody on this forum could take a look at my test reports and see if there's anything suspicious or urgent?
Avatar f tn Hello, MCV, MCH, and MCHC values reflect the size and hemoglobin concentration of individual cells, and are useful in diagnosing different types of anemia. The elevated RBC count is not significantly high. Your low MCV, MCH support iron deficiency. If you have been taking a multivitiamin with iron it may be that you are not absorbing it well. High number of RBS’ may be found in smoking or dehydration also. I suggest you to get your TIBC levels and iron levels done.
Avatar m tn You can really tell from a complete blood count what type of infection you have (as said above). It does show a slight increase in your WBC count so you are fighting some type of infection. The RDW is high as well which just shows there is a variety of cell types. Sometimes this can mean iron deficiency anemia but it isn't too bad since your Hemoglobin is normal. The more important question is what are your symtoms and how long have you had them?
Avatar m tn 5), Hemoglobin 9.7 (12-16) MCV 30 (38-48) MCH 76.9 (80-100) RDW 24.8 (27-32) TSH was normal, and so went back for another CBC on the 29th and WBC dropped to 2.5 RBC 3.86 Hemoglobin 9.9 and the others were low and platelets were 137 (140-450) My Ferritin was 3 (10-154) folate was in normal B12 was normal. Iron and TIBC were all in normal range. Did another CBC on 12/2 and WBC 2.6 RBC went into normal range 4.02 and everything else stayed low. Platelets did rise to 145. Any ideas.
Avatar m tn This is second blood report (atleast which I had chance to look at) that my total RBC count is elevated to around 6.2 10E12 / L and MCV indicating small RBCs and MCH is abnormal too... should I be concerned of any cardiac anomalies? does this warrant me asking my GP for a hematology refferal? Actually, my recent workup at the cardiology clinic was totally unremarkable. I have a pending appointment for a pulmonary function testing (e.g. spirometry) soon... Could this be emphesyma related?
