Avatar m tn Hi all, My father had a triple by pass surgery about 18 months ago, and has been taking Lipitor, Perondopril and Atenolol. He's been getting abnormal hair growth on one side of his leg and back and chest since he's been on Lipitor, and Perondopril. I googled to see what I could find, and found this site saying that Lipitor can cause abnormal hair growth. http://www****.com/ds/lipitor/hair%20growth%20abnormal/ My question is, has anyone else taking Lipitor experience this?

446474 tn?1446347682 The agency singled out atorvastatin (Lipitor), rosuvastatin (Crestor), and simvastatin (Zocor) for the new warnings and restated a warning about mixing lovastatin (Mevacor) with HIV and HCV drugs. Today's FDA safety communication follows label changes announced Tuesday that added cautions about new onset diabetes and transient memory problems for users of any of the cholesterol-lowering drugs in the statin class.
Avatar f tn You don’t mention dose and you make no mention of any side effects. Both drugs in Rosvin F (statin and fibrate) are generally well tolerated. Neither are drugs one takes “for a month.” Rather, they are lifetime drugs that will keep you in tip-top CV health with more benefit correlating with duration of treatment. If you discontinue treatment, all your lipid levels will return to where they were (unless you have made HUGE lifestyle changes).
Avatar m tn All medications have potential side effects, but the statins are relatively well tolerated by most people and your doctor should be watching for any dangerous side effects (which are rare). Aggressive diet and exercise is a must regardless of whether you decide to take the medication. Best of luck.
Avatar n tn 'I've battled high cholesterol for a number of years and can't find the right medicine...Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing.
Avatar n tn Pulse pressure is the difference in blood pressure between the systolic blood pressure and the diastolic blood pressure. Pulse pressure in healthy adults in a sitting position is about 40 mmHg. Your have a wide pulse pressure of 93mmHg.
Avatar m tn There are several options (I would probably use atorvastatin or rosuvastatin as they are the most potent and would be most effective at lowering your LDL into the appropriate range) which you can discuss with your physician. Good luck.
Avatar m tn He prescribed Atorvastatin in addition to vitamins but I did a small research about Atorvastatin and find out there are some contradictions about usefulness of Atorvastatin. Of course the contradiction relates to use of Atorvastatin in combination of interferons and he prescribed Atorvastatin in combination with vitamins but I have not decided whether I use it or not. 1->http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18398457 2->http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar n tn Since the pain (enough to climb the walls) started at night and I took the Vytorin at night, I concluded, it must be the Statins and I quit taking them and, just as I thought, no more pain. Now I am taking Crestor 5mg's because the cardiologist said, I should be taking them again.
Avatar n tn I am only 39 years old. and dont want to be taking a pill every day for the rest of my life. Is there not a way through diet and exercise to lower cholesterol. It seems Doctors are all to quick to prescribe pills these days. PLease help.
Avatar m tn since then i m taking the tablet regularly and now my trygleycerides level is 135 without any side effects. Please advise me whether i can discontinue taking this drug for some years to come or do i have to take it regularly life long.
Avatar n tn However, there is also the risk of liver inflammation due to the medicine Crestor® (rosuvastatin) and it is conceivable that there could be an additive effect of Crestor® (rosuvastatin) and INH. In addition, niacin may increase the risk of muscle disease called myopathy when used with Crestor® (rosuvastatin). Crestor® (rosuvastatin) significantly increases the INR (enhances the effect of Coumadin to make your blood “thinner” than it would be alone.
Avatar m tn Gout was initial thought but ruled out by several tests of the fluid drawn from multiple joints. It just went away and i am talking Sulfasalazine daily. Now two years later i am told out of the blue i am type 2 diabetic. Never in my family history. Also thyroid gland not producing enough. Then i was asked about Atorvastatin and these issues especially typ 2 diabetes. Its all over the internet but my doctors don't seem to know much about the possible connection.
Avatar f tn At 12 months, the median hs-CRP level was 37% lower in the rosuvastatin group compared to placebo, from a baseline level of 2.2 mg/l, and median LDL cholesterol was 50% lower in the rosuvastatin group compared to placebo, from a baseline level of 186 mg/dl. I do agree, lifestyle changes should always be the first line of defense for high cholesterol. However, in cases where that doesn't work, statins make sense.
Avatar n tn My doctor prescribed the generic pravastatin as a more afordable alternative to atorvastatin but also doubled the amount I take (from 20 mg of atorvastatin to 40 mg of pravastatin). Should I be concerned about the effectiveness of pravastatin?
Avatar n tn Rosuvastatin is used together with lifestyle changes (diet, weight-loss, exercise) to reduce the amount of cholesterol (a fat-like substance) and other fatty substances in your blood. Rosuvastatin is in a class of medications called HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (statins).
Avatar n tn I would deff tell your doctor about that...

Avatar n tn //www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5033144/ You can copy and paste that article. It's supposed to be fairly modest. This article also talks about increased effect and blood levels of atorvastatin with this combination. https://www.drugs.com/drug-interactions/lipitor-with-prilosec-276-128-1750-1118.html I would talk to your doctor before doing this though to be on the same page.
Avatar f tn The risk of rhabdomyolysis by the use of any statin is .044% and deaths from rhabdomyolysis occur in 1 prescription out of every 20 MILLION prescriptions. From the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA); "Average incidence per 10 000 person-years for monotherapy with atorvastatin, pravastatin, or simvastatin was 0.44%" Here's the link; http://jama.ama-assn.org/content/292/21/2585.
Avatar n tn t take it anymore, it should be properly disposed of. Unfortunately, a lot of people get into the habit of hanging onto unused Rx'es, which leads to a lot of diversion. The #1 way teens and young people obtain meds to abuse is by raiding the med cabinet. Please do this the right way and get a hold of your doctor so you can continue to take your Paxil as prescribed. Even on a weekend, there will be a doctor on call. Let us know how you're doing!
Avatar f tn Hi, Evaluation of standardized uptake value warrants additional information such as the medical history, diagnosis, symptoms present, and results of other tests. Additional studies may need to be done to show any correlation of SUV to specific cancer stage. It is best that you talk to your attending physician also about this for proper evaluation. Take care and regards.
