I'm hoping someone can help me. I had community acquired pneumonia at Christmas 15 for the first time which required 2 nights hospital stay. Prior to this if not had any real health issues, ex social smoker ie maybe 2/3 cigarettes every couple of weeks for about 8 years until about 13 months ago. 7 months later I got pneumonia again (still recovering now 3 weeks later).

Your description indicates that you definitely have acute bronchitis and probably have community acquired pneumonia. The green phlegm suggests that the infection is bacterial and would almost certainly be responsive to an antibiotic. The wheezing could be due to the bronchitis and/or aggravation of underlying asthma, but in either case, it is an indicator that the infection is compromising your respiration and that too is serious.

m sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread. A bacteria is its own living cell and multiplies and spreads on its own and is easier to destroy in that process.

i tested negative 5 months post exposure. i recently developed pneumonia and i read on the internet that thats an early indication of an infection? any truth? please help. i thought i was done with worrying.

Does this mean I have lyme disease? The doc said that they have to run more tests. I live in NW ontario in Canada and my Dr said that there is no lyme here, but the NP that seen the results seem to think I should come back in to see them. I am very confused as the Dr doesn't seem to think this is a big deal, but the NP does. Also, our Health unit this summer said that lyme has been comfirmed in this area and are asking for unusual looking ticks (for us) Does anyone have any ideas for me?

I had exposure with a couple of sex workers in canada(april8, 2011). I dont know their status. Assming that they were positive. I had HIV tets done at 4 week(may 6, 2011) and 8 week (june 3, 2011) after exposure. They were non-reactive. They were 3rd gen. EIA. Can I trust my tests and move on. Please reply. Do I need to go for 12 week test? Thank you.

It was most likely a combo test since that is the standard test given in Canada (I live in Canada) All blood tests in Canada are 4th gen and only rapid tests are 3rd gen. I confirmed this with an HIV clinic. Remote areas might not use the 4th gen but in Ontario I would definitely say it was a 4th gen. Your results are conclusive. 12 months is only if you are using antibody only testing. I highly suspect you had a duo/combo test.
