Colonoscopy prep procedure

Common Questions and Answers about Colonoscopy prep procedure

colon

Avatar n tn but honestly the prep is going to be the worst part of your colonoscopy, that is the rough part rushing to the batrhoom and depending on what prep stuff they give you..if they make you do tons of miralax that's much better than the soda phosphate stuff that makes me gag..but yeah the prep is the worst part..not the procedure itself. Hope that helps with the anxiety (there's really no reason to be..but I know how hard it is dealing with anxiety myself).. good luck with your procedure!
Avatar n tn I agree - they are saying you did not get cleaned out well enough for them to do an effective exam.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know what bowel prep for colonoscopy is safe for use by a patient with liver disease? I was given prescriptions for miralax/ducolax and for Suprep. Thanks!
Avatar m tn I (and most other people) will tell you that the worse part of a colonoscopy is the prep because it tastes bad and because you have to spend all day having diarrhea. I had a colonoscopy at 16 and I was totally fine. Do you know what type of sedation you are going to get? Are you most afraid of waking up in the middle of the procedure?
Avatar n tn The pill is for the prep for the colonoscopy. I actually just learned that my in-laws also used it for their colonoscopies and they said the pills were much better than drinking the liquid prep. So, as long as I can down 20 pills in an hour, this prep hopefully will be a bit easier since the liquid prep makes me vomit.
Avatar f tn I would do the prep 10 times over then get a colonoscopy again!! SO PAINFUL!! Damn Dr just shoving in the hose without a care in the world.. I was not under at all, they must have had a bad batch of stuff they gave me Im asking for propofol if I have to do it again thats the way to go!!
Avatar f tn clear liquid diet day before procedure (starting morning- breakfast). I ordered some boost breeze orange flavored (nutritional drink): Online. i read that it's clear liquid. I was thinking that I would have sierra mist, apple juice, lemon jello, chicken broth. I read that popcicles are ok (If it has no fruit chunks). Starting noon- start drinking Nulytely.... I'm wondering if anybody has done this type of prep, how exactly does the stuff taste?
Avatar n tn ask your doctor if virtual colonoscopy can be done instead of direct invasive colonoscopy as both have equally good diagnostic value.
Avatar m tn For most people, the colonoscopy itself is not too painful. They will sedate you so that it isn't too uncomfortable. However, the prep for the colonoscopy is miserable. You need to clean out completely so you are not allowed to eat the day before and the day of the procedure, you can only drink clear liquids the day before the procedure, you can have nothing (not even water) the day of the procedure.
Avatar f tn Has anyone used just 2 bottles mag citrate and 2 5mg. tabs bisacodyl for colonoscopy prep? My directions say 1 bottle at 4pm, then 1 bottle at 8pm with the 2 tabs. This is while on a 1 day liquid diet for an am (before noon) procedure in the surgicenter. I'm allowed to sip water up until 2 hrs. prior to the procedure because it's not in the hospital. How long does it take to start the purge? How long to finish? How much nausea?
Avatar m tn The last colonoscopy I had was in July 2020... prep consisted of a bottle of Magnesium citrate, followed by 2 Dulcolax, followed by 1/2 gallon of a Miralax solution to be guzzled according to a specific schedule. One tip I might offer is if you have to do the Miralax solution, be sure to mix in some lemon flavored Crystal Light (if allowed per your instructions). For previous colonoscopies I only mixed the Miralax with water and couldn't get down most of the last 3 glasses.
Avatar n tn Remember that bowel prep you did the day before your procedure? Well it cleaned you out pretty effectively. I find that I don't have a bowel movement for a few days after a colonoscopy - and I've had many. Not sure why this makes you miserable. "Just wait" is excellent advice.
1466873 tn?1286625153 Best of luck - for me, the worst part of the colonoscopy was the prep - the procedure itself was nothing!
Avatar n tn d feel a lot better if I knew that my heart would be okay during the prep and colonoscopy procedure. Can anyone tell me what they experienced with the HalfLytely prep?
1466873 tn?1286625153 The thing you drink for upper gi does not taste anything like the colonoscopy prep. Most people don't get to just take pills for their colonoscopy, they have to drink something too. For me personally, the taste of the prep was not the worse thing. The pain that I had from the prep was the worst but I have motility problems so it shouldn't be as bad for you. You do have to go to the bathroom the entire time which is miserable.
Avatar f tn I vaguely remember the doctor saying the inflammation could be from the bowel prep for the procedure, but I was so out of it. I am having some anxiety about this, and have to wait so long for results. When I look online about inflammation in small intestines, Crohn's immediately comes up. Is it possible to have some mild swelling in the small intestine from the bowel prep? Does this sound like Crohn's? Thank you for any input!
Avatar f tn my doctor wishes that i get a colonoscopy but i suffer from extreme anxiety and am so terrified of this procedure that i cant even find the appropriate words to describe my fear. i was wondering if for this it would be best for me to go under general anesthesia and not be conscious throughout this procedure as the thought of that calms my axieties?
552053 tn?1273331741 Is there a way to prep for a colonoscopy without taking any drugs.. IE DIET related ways? For example For 1 day only drink liquids ect? I am HYPERSENSITVE to EVERYTHING and worry about the MoviPrep.
Avatar f tn since neither the endoscopy or colonoscopy reach the small intestines what is the purpose of the tests except to make a patient severely uncomfortable and disgusted by the prep drink
134578 tn?1693250592 When I visited my relatives, it was on Christmas Day, the day I did the prep. My procedure was the day after Xmas. I figured you knew you couldn't drive to the procedure, but threw that in there just in case, since you had questions in general. Someone else had said they did their prep at night for a morning procedure, but for the record, each gastro group uses diff prep stuff with diff timing for them.
471161 tn?1317190950 OK I have had an Endoscopy and I know one minute they were talking to me and the next minute they were waking me up so I am not worried about the procedure. On June 3rd. I am having both the Endoscopy and a Colonoscopy done and I am not worried because I know I will be completely out but I am worried about the day before when I have to take the pills and drink all the junk.
Avatar m tn I had colonoscopy and 3 polyps removed 2 days ago. I feel ok just a little achy in lower abdomen and a little dizzy. However today had first BM since the procedure. It was very 'urgent' to go so that was alarming and I hope it was a one-off. Could some of the laxative prep still be in my system? Will my system get back to normal? Anyone else have this after colonoscopy comments appreciated.
Avatar f tn I had my first and last routine colonoscopy 5 weeks ago and I was perfectly healthy and very active before procedure. I was injured during the colonoscopy and L 4 and L5 disks were herniated during procedure. I had no problem with hemorrhoids and now I have painful external hemorrhoids and my rectum is sore and swollen 5 weeks after the colonoscopy. I called the GI who performed it and she would not return my calls.
