Avatar n tn Hello: I am having a routine colonoscopy next week as I turned 50 in the last year. I have anxious tendancies when I see any physician and this procedure is creating a lot of anticipatory anxiety. May I take a couple of Xanex BEFORE I go to the appointment?
Avatar m tn Had a very painful and uncomfortable colonoscopy performed at a British NHS hospital today. I'm absolutely convinced that I was either not given sufficient sedative or else none of it got into my blood stream. I did NOT feel in the least bit sedated!! The doctor (who seemed rather impatient and not very communicative) made a complete hash of inserting the needle in my arm and there was blood all over the place. I didn't even feel mildly dizzy when he administered the versed drug.
Avatar m tn I've had versed before and I didn't remember anything during the procedure. When I woke up from the procedure in the recovery room I was hallucinating a little bit (nothing scary just people talking) and my teeth were chattering. I was really out of it for about 10 minutes and then I was just fine. I've also had other types of sedation and I can tell you about those if you like.
Avatar f tn Had a colonoscopy August of 2017, it now being June 2018 with diverticula diagnosis and polyps removed. Problem that I’m having every since the procedure , I awake every morning having pains in my lower intestine more to the the left side . Could something have gone wrong ? I went to the ER at VA hospital were the procedure was done . Cat scan was completed and was told all appeared okay. What could be the cause.
Avatar f tn Hi there :) It's pretty grim I have to be honest. I've had 2! I was having symptoms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease a few years ago so it was kind of necessary :P I'd say the worst part of the whole thing is the preparation. I had to drink this laxative solution, one sachet 12 hours before the procedure & then another one 6 hours before the procedure. It's quite horrible, I'll not lie, it made me gag a bit, but then I'm a wimp when it comes to things like that.
Avatar m tn I'm due for my first ever colonoscopy in two weeks. It is strictly a routine procedure...and was recommended by my PCP since I am now over 50 years old. Needless to say I have all the usual jitters...and worse yet I have read almost ever horror story ever uploaded to the internet. I know that the prep sucks....and that submitting to the actual procedure is a crapshoot. It will either be painless and non-eventful or else a Hellish experience. I guess I'm OK with taking my chances.
Avatar f tn I had my first and last routine colonoscopy 5 weeks ago and I was perfectly healthy and very active before procedure. I was injured during the colonoscopy and L 4 and L5 disks were herniated during procedure. I had no problem with hemorrhoids and now I have painful external hemorrhoids and my rectum is sore and swollen 5 weeks after the colonoscopy. I called the GI who performed it and she would not return my calls.
Avatar m tn If no doctor will do this procedure without anesthesia then I WILL NOT agree to having it done. Has other ever had this procedure without anesthesia?
568565 tn?1216785185 I am 37 yrs old. No history of colon cancer in the fam... However, recently one of my employee's husband went on a routine check up. They said since he is 47 he should have a colonoscopy... When he was done with that, he is now doing radiation and chemo... He has full blown cancer all over his pelvis... My gp advised with no history in my family, I am good to wait until I am 50 but if I did have a history of it, she'd recommend that I did it when I was 40...

Avatar f tn my doctor wishes that i get a colonoscopy but i suffer from extreme anxiety and am so terrified of this procedure that i cant even find the appropriate words to describe my fear. i was wondering if for this it would be best for me to go under general anesthesia and not be conscious throughout this procedure as the thought of that calms my axieties?
511091 tn?1211149660 I thought I could either just wear my CPAP mask or have oxygen. Is this a normal procedure, to be intubated for a colonoscopy when a person has sleep apnea?
Avatar n tn I had my colonoscopy in August 08 and I still hurt where I did before the procedure. They took out a large polyp. But after the procedure I had new pain on my left side which to this day still hurts greatly at times. I cant afford any more doctors.
Avatar n tn I am going to have a colonoscopy this week should I stop taking my hydro and soma before the procedure?
Avatar n tn why do I have to come back for a second colonoscopy?
Avatar f tn I recently had a colonoscopy and everything was fine except for hemorrhoid or 2. Ever since then there have been times when I've noticed blood after having a bowel movement. Could the colonoscopy have irritated the hemorrhoid?
Avatar n tn If so I would call the doctor that performed the colonoscopy and tell him or his nurse your symptoms. Hope it turns out great.
Avatar f tn I tried to ring hospital but coulnt get thro to anyone. Have been to GP who gave spasmonal pills for the cramp..was told to go with it for 3/6 months. Wishing i had not had the test ! Specilist said ther were signs of diviculitus as most people over 50 av it.. Its so painful tho n wasnt xpectin any problems ... Thanks for yr input..
Avatar f tn The possible issue with these procedures is that the scope may damage (perforate) the the lining of the esophagus, stomach, duodenum or colon, specially when there's already a pre-existing pathology which has caused a compromise in the connective tissue of the lining. It could also be a reaction to the medicine you were administered, prior to the procedure.. But as the previous poster mentioned, this is a reportable incident and you should notify your doctor asap!
Avatar n tn I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy on Monday and found out that the doctor suspect Barretts disease. I was extremely extremely extremely stressed out about it but luckily the biopsy is negative today. I was completely knocked out during the procedure. Now I can't have an erection at all. My questions is can colonoscopy cause total erectile dysfunction. I had sex with my girlfriend last Saturday, two days before the colonoscopy. Everything was fine.

Avatar m tn Is doing a colonoscopy very painful? How does it feel ?
Avatar n tn 71 yr old female relatiave good health (i.e. still breathing, that is) .... will need a '3-yr' repeat colonoscopy about 6-8 weeks post 2-eye cataract removal that were done 2 weeks apart, last being June 25, 2008. husband is concerned about positioning required during the colonoscopy and possible ''damages' (only term we can think of ) to the relatively new cataracts because of the necessity of body/head positioning during the procedure.
