Common Questions and Answers about Colonoscopy instruments

colon

Avatar m tn If you are experiencing bleeding at the time of your colonoscopy it may be helpful for the specialist to locate the site and perhaps treat the site with one of the instruments included on the colonoscopy probe etc. Of course do tell the specialist of your recent/current bleeding episodes. But based on your age and symptoms, in my opinion, a colonoscopy is an essential test for you.
Avatar n tn I had a culture test done for herpes and it came out positive, but the blood test came back negative. I had this done in November and was told that it was probably a new infection. I have never had sexual intercourse with anyone or even oral sex. The bumbs I have are in the genital area. I am confused cause one minute i read that it can be contracted through toilets, towels, drinks, etc..and then i read on other sites that say the contrary.
Avatar n tn he sent my mother to have a colonoscopy and a gastrographing done. when she went to have her colonoscopy done they said her large intestine was to inflammed that she couldn't have the colonoscopy done. the doctor said that the gastrographing procedure confirmed that she had divertiticulitis and that she had to have a sectional colonectomy. what i found wierd is that the a couple of weeks before the operation is that she was having normal bowel movements but still having pain.
Avatar n tn Hello. I am very nervous. I am having an EGD and Colonoscopy done on 6/11. The other postings have made me nervous about possibly waking up during the procedures. I explained my anxiety about this to the doctor, but he guaranteed that there is about 96 percent of people are asleep from the sedation medicine they give and that only a small percentage actually wake up, but those are the ones usually very tolerant to medicines.
Avatar m tn You are not going to contact HIV from a dentist cleaning your teeth. All the instruments are sterilized.
Avatar f tn My wife needs to go in for a colonoscopy, however she will not go unless I am permitted to be there during the procedure. The desk clerk at the doctors office (nasty) has informed me that it isn't allowed. (tried to tell me it was the "law" (it isn't a "law" -- trust me.) Anyway... she won't do it unless I'm there... Were you allowed to have a loved one there during it? What can I do? Thanks!
Avatar m tn Clean the dental instruments manually or through mechanical means like a thermal washer disinfector or an ultrasonic bath. Infection Control Services says that dental instruments cannot be sterilized properly unless they are thoroughly cleaned beforehand. Manual cleaning should be done in a sink specifically reserved for this purpose and they should be cleaned with non-foaming detergent and a nylon brush.
Avatar f tn t know if the actual biopsy and colonoscopy would delay the period, but the stress it put your body under may have. The more you stress about your period being late, the longer it takes to come! If you've done a pregnancy test and it's negative, just try to relax and tell yourself it should be here in due time. Your body wouldnt be used to having medical instruments put up there and taking samples of your cells!
Avatar m tn yesterday i went to dentist and she made teethfilling to my teeth. i saw the nurse after my appointment when she clean the instruments but she didn't clean carefully even she didn't clean they. the doctor had another patient before me and i have anxiety now. and my question is about it. if the instruments are unsterilized is there any possibility to catch hiv from dentist? thanks for answers.
Avatar f tn After that the instruments were put in a chlorine solution for about 10 minutes . I then started washing them . I wear gloves . At the end of the day I check my middle fingers and there was some lines on them asceive it is a cut . I put my hands in alcohol , salt water , lime and even put spray on it when I got home but it never hurt me and there was no burning sensation . Should I be worried or it is just my mind playing games on me .
Avatar m tn had not the sharpest of instruments. They would bring a supposedly sterilized tray with implements to use on each patient, but because the instruments were older and not so sharp for scaling and plaque removal, many times I saw them take out a sharpening stone from a drawer and scrape along it during the teeth cleaning! Thinking back now, even though the implements were suppose to be sterilized, I am sure that sharpening stone never was!
Avatar n tn i work in medical field. and one of my tasks is to wash medical instrument, like vaginal speculums, surgical instruments. last two weeks ago I washed instruments particularly vaginal speculums. vaginal speculums are used by OBGYNE doctors. normally this instruments are contaminated with blood and bodily fluids. I used latex gloves, when I washed the speculums. After washing, I removed my gloves and noticed a very small cut. i think that's less than a centimeter. Maybe 1/2 cm.
1793863 tn?1325002184 the thing is the doctor who did this procedure on me wasnt wearing gloves and im not sure wheather the instruments that he used were really clean as they have to be im just wondering is there any posibilities of transmiting SDT this way ( from his hands of instruments i mean) Thank you very much.
Avatar m tn I am a medical assistant, the other day I was rinsing instruments that had been sitting in a soapy solution( I was preparing them to be autoclaved) while I was rinsing them, I think a droplet splashed in my eye, what are my chances of contracting something? I am very concerned about HIV?! Please help! I also wear contact lenses, I don't know if that makes a difference! Thanks--I'm deeply concerned!
Avatar n tn I left dental instruments to soak in our dental offices cleaning solution over night. After 24 hours. I returned to clean it up and place the instruments where they're needed to be. While extracting the instruments I splashed some of the solution accidentally and a little bit of it went into my eye. I am scared because those instruments were from a HIV positive patient. Do I have hiv because just the day after that accidentI have had an allergic reaction and swelling of my right eye.
Avatar m tn In another quick question, does the risk level stay the same being that these instruments where the instruments used in a cystoscopy. We're the instruments were inserted in the penis to reach the prostate. So they might have had possible blood, but did have bodily fluids. I'm so sorry for being so persistent.
Avatar f tn Hi, I work as a sterile processor (Cleaning Instruments). There was a patient that had HIV & HEP C and while I was washing the instruments I accidentally got splashed in the eye! I rinsed my eye emmediately with water. But I'm worried I didnt rinse for a full 15mins. Its been two days and my eye is now showing signs of swelling, I feel really fatigue and I been having night fevers, Im scared!! Could I have contracted HIV or HEP C through my eye??
Avatar f tn like nothing was completed in surgery...... the only thing done was a incision and the placement of instruments in my spine. As far as the airway obstruction....It turns out I had an allegric reaction to the sedation medications. He said it was rare that such a reaction can occur....... being I was under sedation with the same meds before. I was informed that more precautions will be taken to protect my airway for surgery . I will be intubated from now on out.
4632175 tn?1368219317 Welcome to our Forum. I'll try to help however the real issue to deal with here is your anxiety. Typically establishments of the sort you describe follow well described sterilization procedures as a matter of standard practice as well as because use of sterile procedures is a requirement for licensure.

Avatar f tn Forgive me if my questions seem paranoid or unfounded in nature. I took my daughter to have a pedicure and she was cut pretty badly. I'm not sure how sterile the instruments were because we did not see them taken from a sterilization device. At most they just sprayed the instrument with alcohol. This same thing applies to my son who was nicked with some clippers where only alcohol may have been used. Can this situation pose a risk for Hep C or HIV?
Avatar f tn Reusable equipment is placed in a sterilizer where temperatures go so high it kills all bacteria and other organisms. First the instruments are placed in a cleaning solution. They are then placed into special sleeves, sort of like an envelope.....the sleeve is closed and then it is placed into the sterilizer. when it comes out, the sleeve has a special marking on it indicating that the temperature in the sterilizer reached the adequate level to kill all organisms.
Avatar m tn Why would you think the instruments are not sterile? If you have reason to believe your dentist does not use standard protocol why would you go to this dentist? Why do you not seek out a different dentist who does use standard practices and report this other dentist to the health board? If the dentist did use instruments that were contaminated with blood from any prior patient with a blood borne illness yes there could be a risk of any illness transmitted by blood.
Avatar m tn Hello everyone. First of all, sorry for any english mistakes. It's not my main language. I've been here in last year (middle last year, if I'm not wrong). I was asking about risks involving razors. People told me that razors are not a risk and that's fine, I moved on. But I was wondering a thing. Everybody says that hiv is a fragile virus and that it dies quickly once in contact with air. There are people that says that hiv is a virus that is hard to transmit.
Avatar m tn Can someone except Teak treat my question, to me it seems Teak is clue less or agent of no-change, He seem to know more than the manufacturer. With due respect Teak if you are clueless dont treat the post, leave it for others. Who are you to know more than the other experts and manufacturer is this instruments. If you know better as you claim why can't you invert your own instruments that will be only be able to detect after 3 month.
Avatar n tn Today I went to a dental parlor to wash my tooth.. It is in individual. The instruments which the dentist used are disposable except the scaler. Before the scaler stick into my mouth it is immersed in disinfectant to be sterilized. During the term my mouth may be wounded .My question :If the last patient is a hiv + may I be infected by this action ? If the instrument was not sterilized thoroughly, whether the hiv risk will be higher ? Do I need to do a test for this stupid action ?
