Avatar n tn I have a colonoscopy coming up in a week and have a question regarding the clear liquid diet I have to follow. Is it alright to drink Enlive! (a clear liquid nutrion drink with carbs and protein)? It's a low residue nutritional supplemtent drink supposedely fine for those on clear liquid diets. Will drinking Enlive interfere with the colon prep in any way? Can any GI doctors here confirm this?
Avatar f tn Hello, i am going to get a colonoscopy on friday. I have been having health issues for over a month and landed in the hospital on thursday night. My hospital does not perform colonoscopies so i had to make an appointment with a GI. I jist realized that when i called to make the appointment, they never told me if i had to do anything to prepare for it.
7282682 tn?1397237735 I have a colonoscopy next week. The stuff they put you out with isnt an opiate is it? I don't want to do anything that jeopardizes my recovery.
Avatar m tn What is prep for a colonoscopy when one has a colostomy? My instructions seem to be identical with those before I had emplacement of a colostomy (why clear a colon that hasn't been "used" in years?
Avatar m tn 30 pm and began taking my prep for my colonoscopy that is scheduled for today. after taking the directed amount every 20 minutes as told by my doc, i noticed my stool was a clear yellow liquid with no solid matter. I was told that when i notice that, to stop. I woke up this morning, and went to the bathroom and there was what appeared to be a small amount of solid like matter that went straight to the bottom of the toilet.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone! Has anyone had a colonoscopy while being hypothyroid. Specifically, have you had it done without sedation? I'm asking because my BP and HR can be low due to this, and heard sedation suppresses it even more - so don't want to do anything that is risky. Also any tips/suggestions especially since we have different issues/diets with Hashi (did you find a particular prep easier/better, what did you eat, etc.). Thank you!
Avatar f tn Do I have an appointment first with the doctor to discuss my symptoms AND THEN he either does/doesn't recommend a colonoscopy for the 2nd appointment? Or, do I just order a colonoscopy done by a doctor who doesn't know my symptoms? What happens in a colonoscopy and how dangerous is it? Is it expensive?
Avatar n tn Hm, honestly surprised loose stools would warrant a colonoscopy. That's not really that common to have for this type of issue that I'm aware of. But I do want to tell you about the newest and easiest thing to do which is cologuard. It's an easy way to get results that are similar to a colonoscopy. You get the kit at home, put the lining in your toilet and go. Pull the lining out, put some drops in it and send off to the lab. It's 95% accurate!

637356 tn?1301924822 This is from newshound Dave Barry's colonoscopy journal: I called my friend Andy Sable, a gastroenterologist, to make an appointment for a colonoscopy. A few days later, in his office, Andy showed me a color diagram of the colon, a lengthy organ that appears to go all over the place, at one point passing briefly through Minneapolis. Then Andy explained the colonoscopy procedure to me in a thorough, reassuring and patient manner.
1569985 tn?1328247482 I have to go off my Warfarin for a colonoscopy. The cardiologist's nurse said ask the doctor doing the procedure how long I should be off of the Warfarin. Doctor says ask the assistant when she gives me my instructions. Assistant says, "Oh, I'm supposed to tell you? Do you need a bridge medication like Lovenox?" Makes me a little nervous going off of it anyway and now this.
Avatar m tn t follow those instructions and it happened 2 more times in about 2 weeks. Today marks the 4th time in 3 weeks it's happened. I've also had the feeling of having to go even after having a bowel movement. The blood is bright red and in very small amounts, and seem to be happening after "straining" or a hard bowel movement. Once, I felt like knives were on the bowel movement when it was coming out.
110491 tn?1274481937 Phospho-soda Phospho-soda is a powder that is available over the counter either by itself or as part of a kit that also includes a laxative and an enema or suppository. The physician performing the colonoscopy will give instructions on which type of kit to purchase. Three ounces of the Phospho-soda liquid is mixed with water, or if the physician allows, other clear liquids such as ginger ale.
185634 tn?1257071139 00 and am supposed to drink 8oz every 10-15 minutes. I'm about 3/4 of the way through this gallon bottle, and now I hurl everytime I drink the fool stuff (I know...TMI). Instructions say if you get nauseated, to wait a half hour and start the prep again. Yeah, right. Anyone out here that's done this before and have any suggestions? I'm about done with it. Oh, and another thing? IF any of you have to have this done, opt out of the gallon prep. It's nasty. Lori PS - Dac..
Avatar n tn I had a colonoscopy four days ago and the anesthesiologist told me I would be given Propofol to sedate me and only if there were problems there was a chance that I might be intubated which might chip my teeth. I was positioned on my left side and instructed to bring my knees up to my chest. She then put a mask over my nose and mouth. I woke up with the worst sore throat of my life. My throat was blood red and it hurt to talk, cough, breath and swallow.
Avatar f tn Had polyp removed one week + a day ago during colonoscopy. Post- instructions said to wait one week for any heavy activity. Today decided to mow lawn and did trimming. Had bloody stool with moderate amount of blood in stool and a little bright red blood at the end. I assume I caused some new bleeding with the activity, but don't know how serious it is. Do I go to ER or wait and see if it stops? My MD does not take call on weekends, so I am left to decide for myself what I should do.
Avatar f tn I knew I had a serious problem So, I went to a GI doctor and I had a colonoscopy done. Everything was normal except a few mild hemorrhoids. He told me to take the Lady Soma Fiber Cleanse (because it was just for women and could be taken continuously). In less than 24 hours, I went to the bathroom 3 times and eliminated ALOT. It wasn't diarrhea either! Just normal and NOT painful. As a bonus, I lost 2 lbs and an inch from my waist because the bloat is gone!
Avatar m tn I'm scheduled for colonoscopy and told them that I don't want any sedation and that I'm allergic to midazolam and to propofol..and that the severe allergic reactions were terrible an I won't consent to trying any other drugs. Despite this, I get a call from a nurse anesthetist and she says that she will be present during my procedure anyway. Since I'm not consenting to anesthesia or sedation in any case, why would a crna be present?
Avatar f tn ) The tumor (mucinous adenocarcinoma), which is pre-sacral and perirectal, did not originate in my colon or rectum per the doctor who performed my last colonoscopy in July. This procedure, as well as two previous colonoscopies, produced a single benign polyp. The tumor measures 11.4 x 11.3 cm and constricts my rectum and bladder (urethra, esp). Per CT scan: "Large (11.4 x 11.3 cm) right perirectal mass seen.
Avatar m tn Hi, bowel preparation has to be done meticulously, as only then the colon can be visualized well. You can follow their instructions for the colonoscopy. This will help study the entire colon. In sigmoidoscopy only the lower colon is studied. Distal descending colon is above the sigmoid colon which is in the left flank.
Avatar n tn I had some oral surgery about 3 weeks ago. I was prescribed Erythromycin and following that Clindamycin. Approximately a week after I stopped the medication I had a sudden and severe onset of diarrhea. I waited several days and when it didn't stop I saw a family M.D. He ordered a stool culture and some additional tests on the stool all which came out negative.
Avatar f tn Had colonoscopy in January. Came home & started having severe back pain. Began collapsing. My entire pelvic girdle is in pain. Bladder pain, lower back, inner thighs, hips. I know something went wrong. About 2 wks later; had diverticulitis. Never had it before. My bowels are all messed up now. I cannot figure it out. My doctors are not doing ANYTHING! I don't even know if it's a gastroenterology or a urologist/gyno problem. As in a Pelvic Floor or Interstitial Cystitis.
Avatar n tn At your original post, someone did post back to you that same day and described what to expect if you get an endoscopy and/or a colonoscopy, so click on the button at the top of this webpage at "My MedHelp," and your profile page will come up, there is a list of all your posts, and you can just click on your first one and the whole thread will come up. I have panic disorder and I take tranquilizers for it.
1838380 tn?1329874153 s no way I could have gone back to work the next day (I had too much cramping) so I rested 2 days afterwards and then went back to work. He said to rest for 2 days after the ET and I followed those instructions. This last time though, I actually went back to usual life and even exercised (whereas I took it REALLY easy during the first two cycles). This last time was the one that worked, so who know's.
