Colonoscopy go lightly

Common Questions and Answers about Colonoscopy go lightly

colon

Avatar n tn I recently underwent my first baseline colonoscopy. I was lightly sedated, but apparently I was a bit resistant to the scope entering any further than the first few inches of my rectum. It was reported that this was sufficient to determine all was well and it was also recommended I come back again in approximately five years. Do I just need to have more sedation next time or could I have a stenosis that caused me to subconsciously be resistive and uncomfortable. Should I be concerned?
Avatar n tn What can I ask for the future to make this procedure tolerable? Should I go with Propofol instead? Should I go without an amnesia drug and just use Fentanyl for pain instead? I have a pretty high pain tolerance so this experience was a surprise for me. I had an upper endoscopy a few years ago and was given 6 mg. of Versed and 200 mcg. of Fentanyl and don't remember a thing. I don't mind remembering, but I don't want to be in pain.
Avatar m tn I am scheduled for colonoscopy in two days but have started passing blood in my stool, should I continue with the procedure or put it off to a later date? The bleeding problem has been on and off for the past few years but has recently gotten more regular. Blood loss is usually heavy resulting in anaemia. I am a 65 year old white male who has never been seriously sick in his life until two and a half years ago when I had a mild heart attack. I am concerned that colon cancer may be in my future.
Avatar f tn I was having cramps in my stomach and abdomen, sometimes felt very urgency to go to the toilet. Then I went to a gastroenterologist and he prescribed me some drugs. I also had my stool checked and they found pus cell I guess. After taking the suggested drug my stools became completely watery for 4/5 days. After 2 weeks one morning I had normal, hard and formed stool in 2 months! Till now I am having a healthy diet with steam rice and vegetables and lightly cooked chicken/fish.
Avatar f tn and have a colonoscopy scheduled for late this month. Do yourself the favor... go in, get the exams done and get that genetic testing done... it is worth it to know what is in your genes before you develop it.
Avatar n tn Didnt see anything for awhile, and now Dark mucus type stuff on stool. I have had constipation all my life, so when i go its hard, and compacted and mucus seems to be where its packed together. No chg in stool I dont feel sick. The only pain i feel is once in awhile I get a cramping in my lower abdomen, as if im ovulating. I have lost alot of weight this past year, but i have been trying to working out. So I dont think thats a condition considering have had same exact weight all winter.
Avatar f tn Hi sorry you are not feeling well, but please go to a gastro doctor for you are describing you might need a colonoscopy. Especially since you had a prior infection in your intestines.
Avatar m tn What is Prepopik? I have had a colonoscopy before, & had trouble with the prep. I was given orange flavored Go Lightly. To be honest, it was horrible! You have to drink a gallon of it, & I understand that they have to make sure that you have cleared out your intestines completely so that they are able to actually see your colon. However, drinking that amount of fluid for me, in that short of an amount of time, was pretty much as close to torture that I have ever experienced.
225036 tn?1294509400 My family doctor has ordered a colonoscopy for me on March 17. I am REALLY dreading the prep. I had to take Go Lightly one time and could barely make it through half the gallon. I am worried that I am not going to be able to take the 2 10oz bottles of stuff. When you have a colonoscopy, are you awake when they start the procedure? I was told that if I didn't want to watch it, I would be sedated, but I wasn't sure if you are out completely or just with twilight sedation.
Avatar f tn If it's bright red it is probably coming from close to the exterior, if it is darker red it is deeper inside. I would go to a gastrointerologist. It would probably be a good idea to get a colonoscopy. don't take it lightly and brush it off. i dont want to scare you but you never know.
Avatar f tn Sorry to say but it sounds like you're not pregnant. I had several early miscarriages when the similar situation happened. Good luck ttcing. Keep your head up.
212161 tn?1599427282 so sorry your having to go again, i dont even want to have the one much less 3 so close together . did they not say why? the new dr i go to has a place like surgery and they have a anthesoies (sp) like your haveing surgery and you are knocked out all the way.
Avatar m tn Welcome to the gastroenterology community! I would not recommend researching "what can go wrong in a colonoscopy." Yes, things do go wrong, but in over 99% of the cases, everything is fine. I (and most other people) will tell you that the worse part of a colonoscopy is the prep because it tastes bad and because you have to spend all day having diarrhea. I had a colonoscopy at 16 and I was totally fine. Do you know what type of sedation you are going to get?
Avatar n tn If so I would call the doctor that performed the colonoscopy and tell him or his nurse your symptoms. Hope it turns out great.
1699550 tn?1320286617 i just had a colonoscopy done this morning and the abdominal pain is horrible and still has not gone away yet is this normal?
212161 tn?1599427282 I do not think that you need to be worried about this at all. So go ahead and schedule your colonoscopy. Good luck.
568565 tn?1216785185 I am 37 yrs old. No history of colon cancer in the fam... However, recently one of my employee's husband went on a routine check up. They said since he is 47 he should have a colonoscopy... When he was done with that, he is now doing radiation and chemo... He has full blown cancer all over his pelvis... My gp advised with no history in my family, I am good to wait until I am 50 but if I did have a history of it, she'd recommend that I did it when I was 40...
Avatar n tn Why was it too painful for me to continue with colonoscopy despite being sedated I now have to have a barium ennema instead Im qyite dissappointed I have to go through the rig marole all over again
7282682 tn?1397237735 I have a colonoscopy next week. The stuff they put you out with isnt an opiate is it? I don't want to do anything that jeopardizes my recovery.
Avatar f tn Having my third colonscopy. I had one eight years ago and I cannot remember feeling so nervous. I had a polyp the first time and it was benign. The second colonoscopy was fine. I'm having a difficult time with feeling hungry and waiting to take the prep this afternoon. I've already started having diaherra because of my nerves. Guess I need to unload and find support on here. Looking forward to hearing from anyone.
Avatar m tn I have had every blood test and stool test under the sun, as well as a abdominal CT scan, abdominal ultraound ( liver and GB fine) colonoscopy, and endoscopy. My question is, how frequently do colonoscopies miss something? I'm scared I might have a tumor. It was done by a gastroenterologist in Minneapolis. Does anyone have any idea? Thanks!!!
Avatar n tn Hello: I am having a routine colonoscopy next week as I turned 50 in the last year. I have anxious tendancies when I see any physician and this procedure is creating a lot of anticipatory anxiety. May I take a couple of Xanex BEFORE I go to the appointment?
Avatar m tn I work in a university-affiliated hospital, so getting any tests is easy. The doc doing my physical recommended a colonoscopy; which I scheduled but when they found out that I had a bad (really bad) reaction to Versed during dental surgery they had me reschedule with a CRNA for diprivan instead of Versed. This wasn't possible because I'm allergic to eggs (therefore allergic to propofol).
Avatar f tn The colonoscopy might show something, but it probably won't. However a colonoscopy is a good idea to make sure nothing more serious is going on. Have you tried making dietary and lifestyle changes?
Avatar f tn Well, if the intestine gets inflammed enough from diverticulosis, that causes the bowels to swell up big-time, and that swelling has to be taken care of before the doc can go forward with a colonoscopy. This is why they are giving you a barium xray and CT. They want to SEE via film, rather than with an object pushing through, what is going on in your bowels.
