Common Questions and Answers about Colonoscopy and pregnancy

colon

Avatar n tn I supposed to have a colonoscopy done last week but I think I am pregnant and I cannot have a colonoscopy during the pregnancy.I do not know how the doctors can find our what I have during the pregnancy.I read about diverculitis and I am afraid I might have it but I coud not find anything in the internet about diverculitis and pregnancy. Does anyone had any similar experience or know how diverticulitis can affect the pregnancy. Any answer would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn I had one with both of my pregnancies and the actual coloscopy doesn't cause problems during pregnancy but a biopsy should be avoided at all costs my doctor told me they would wait to do the biopsy until after the baby is born
Avatar n tn colonoscopy? Not before 13 weeks, and usually they will do a sigmioscopy instead. I had that done at 12 weeks with my 3rd.
1772677 tn?1314133683 I am sorry to heard that .I have stomach ulcer and I have to do Colonoscopy and Endoscopy but because I am pregnant at this moment they can not any of them , the earliest time that they can do it in my late Third Trimester , if they do it even at that time.
Avatar m tn On the other hand, the procedure is much more comfortable than conventional colonoscopy at the patients end. With a clear CT colonoscopy and a positive sigmoidoscopy, the decision for a conventional colonoscopy/ conventional CT or directly initiating a management plan is best taken by the treating gastroenterologist based on the CT colonoscopy report. Though if the CT colonoscopy report is absolutely clear, chances that abnormalities are unlikely to be present.
Avatar m tn Thank you for the response, I did get a second opinion and they said unless the platelets are within normal they can't do the colonoscopy. My question is why he can't be treated as a high risk patient and get a colonoscopy in the hospital after having a platelet infusion?
Avatar n tn I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy on Monday and found out that the doctor suspect Barretts disease. I was extremely extremely extremely stressed out about it but luckily the biopsy is negative today. I was completely knocked out during the procedure. Now I can't have an erection at all. My questions is can colonoscopy cause total erectile dysfunction. I had sex with my girlfriend last Saturday, two days before the colonoscopy. Everything was fine.
Avatar n tn A colonoscopy is how most diverticulitis is discovered, and yes it is safe.
378273 tn?1262097621 However the GI is not concerned and neither was my cardiologist. Has anyone had afibs before or during a colonoscopy. The GI is putting me out entirely, rather than giving me conscious sedation.
Avatar m tn I have a colonoscopy scheduled for 4/18 because of inconsistent bowel movements. I have been having back pains but it is due to a strain pair of muscles in my upper buttocks. My orthopedic doctor seems to think that the changes in bowel movements (at times regular and at times flat, and at times small) are due to the strain muscle in my upper buttocks and lower back. My gastro wants to do a colonoscopy to make sure it is not an obstruction and to diagnoe IBS.
471161 tn?1317190950 I am having both the Endoscopy and a Colonoscopy done and I am not worried because I know I will be completely out but I am worried about the day before when I have to take the pills and drink all the junk. The paperwork the doctor gave me talks about nausea and he gave me an Rx for several medications I have to take and or drink plus one for nausea. I get sick to my stomach very easy. I know drinking all this stuff is done for the Colonoscopy.
Avatar m tn Hi There~ Well this is the same question I posted back in January. I'm 47 years old and had a colonoscopy. I was scared to DEATH that I would have a reaction to the versed/fentanyl cocktail. SO...I didn't get it. I had the colonoscopy without sedation and although it wasn't a walk in the park I was really glad I could just get up and go home. I'm only 106 lbs and being so tiny it was extra hard pushing that hose up there.
567392 tn?1216751526 What did the doctor say about the bruising and possible causes? I just had an endoscopy and colonoscopy on Thursday, February 26. The doctor thought I had crohn's disease, but then said I didn't after he performed the procedure. I was told I have a thickening of the colon so they are still trying to figure out. Do you have any more procedures scheduled? I go in this Thursday for a small bowel follow through. I'm not sure what they are looking for now. The dr.
Avatar n tn I have had both the upper endoscopy and then yesterday had my first colonoscopy and the prep you have to drink for the colonoscopy is way worse than the procedure itself :) Good luck, I hope this is helpful!
Avatar n tn Hello. I am very nervous. I am having an EGD and Colonoscopy done on 6/11. The other postings have made me nervous about possibly waking up during the procedures. I explained my anxiety about this to the doctor, but he guaranteed that there is about 96 percent of people are asleep from the sedation medicine they give and that only a small percentage actually wake up, but those are the ones usually very tolerant to medicines.
Avatar f tn WEll I finally went to a colon and rectal dr and he did some lighted scope just looking at rectal area, and he said he saw nothing bad at all, but wants me to have a colonoscopy to figure out why I have red in bowel movements. Sometimes its streaked red and other times its maroonish looking and other times theres like maroonish clots in it. Sometimes well only like once there was a small purplish maroonish) clot on toilet paper, so I am really scared about colon cancer at my age.
Avatar f tn Gastro Dr. ordered both tests for diverticulosis and unexplained weight loss, to be done at the same visit. He prescribed Moviprep.for the prep. But, in researching, it seems that all I read is that it makes people nauseous, vomiting, abdominal pains so bad, they had to cancel the testing. It's also extremely salty and I'm really nervous about it. I'm a senior citizen and take three different hypertention meds. I reminded the Dr. of it; but he says its okay to take this prep.
Avatar f tn I recently had a colonoscopy done. Luckily everything was fine and the doctor told me I didn't have to have it done again for another 10 years. I was wondering if the scopes used in the colonoscopy procedures can spread HPV from the anal canal, if one is infected, to other parts of the colon.
Avatar m tn I just scheduled an EGD and colonoscopy for next week, the EGD for persistent nausea and the colonoscopy because of family history (I'm 54 and 14 years overdue) plus bleeding issues. My issue is that I need to have these exams done without sedation because of a previous bad experience with Versed in a dental procedure; the memory loss and nasty amnesia left me unwilling to undergo sedation again for any reason (I know that there are other agents, but I just can't do sedation).
Avatar m tn How did you go with ur colonoscopy after using meth?
Avatar n tn When I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy they gave me general anesthesia and intubated me and everything. This was probably cause I'm young and have other health problems but it isn't unheard of to give someone general anesthesia for a colonoscopy.
Avatar m tn Then after a month, I end up going to the ER with nausea/bleeding/anemia and then GI tells me that indeed colonoscopy can be done without sedation and that they do them unsedated when required. The problem is that the same doctor that told me that sedation is absolutely reuired a month ago is now telling me that it really isn't required. This would be fine, but now I don't trust her, especially when the procedural consent includes a consent for sedation.
Avatar m tn I have had every blood test and stool test under the sun, as well as a abdominal CT scan, abdominal ultraound ( liver and GB fine) colonoscopy, and endoscopy. My question is, how frequently do colonoscopies miss something? I'm scared I might have a tumor. It was done by a gastroenterologist in Minneapolis. Does anyone have any idea? Thanks!!!
Avatar f tn I did have the colonoscopy and it is horrible making my immune system haywire. According to the result i have they said nothing wrong my my intestines are real sensitive.
1699550 tn?1320286617 i just had a colonoscopy done this morning and the abdominal pain is horrible and still has not gone away yet is this normal?
