Common Questions and Answers about Colon pain medications

colon

Avatar n tn Is there anyone who suffers from severe colon spasms, bloating, back pain with attacks and last for several days. Drs say its irritable bowel syndrome but, i have tried several medications for irritable bowel syndrome and nothing seems to help me except for a heating pad and being confined to the bed for several days until the attack subsides.
Avatar m tn I would ask your doc about prescribing some anti-spasm medications which should calm down the pain your colon is producing. The water leaking could be due to the uncontrolled spasms/pain your colon is producing. Also, things like peppermint tea has been known to be a natural antispasm remedy. Drinking a few of these a day can help out.
Avatar m tn Told her it was a ovarian cyst. Was not, diverticulitis, was not, infection was not, irritable bowel syndrome, was not. colon infection, was not... She was told they could find nothing. Was hospitalized last week for two days, She was told the colon could have fecal matter which is caused by taking laxatives gave her an enima, then released... Helped somewhat better which lasted one day. Still has pain, and cannot sleep. They gave her pain med's, antibiotics, no results.
Avatar f tn I have had chronic vaginal and rectal pain for a very long time. I now am having leakage from my rectum. I had a colon scope about 6 months ago everything was fine. I have been trying to get another colon scope done but my doctor is always booked up or is on vacation. At this point I am in so much sever chronic rectal pain the only relief I get is when I am asleep. My GI doctor has had me on several pain medications that do not work. anymore.
Avatar f tn The ulcers were gone, they found out I had extra length to my colon, and found inflammation in my ilium. They think the length of the colon is why I'm comstipated. But I've never had problems till now. They took a biopsy of the ilium to have it come back negative, and found my cal protection was high. They aren't sure what's wrong still. Any suggestions? This has been going on for a year with no answers.
Avatar f tn I am a 52 year old lady who is considering having all or part of my colon removed for severe constipation which began when I started taking medications for chronic pain/fibromyalgia about 24 years ago. I’ve seen 2 colon surgeons who both think surgery (laproscopic) is warranted. One would remove my entire colon and join my small bowel to my rectum. The other one would leave 6 – 8 inches of my sigmoid colon. Do you know which of these is most often done for colonic inertia?
Avatar n tn I am a 28 year old female diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis 4 years ago. My 1st episode of UC was very severe. I was hospitalized for 1 month (took 3 weeks and a hospital transfer to UNC Chapel Hill for the diagnosis). Since then I have been hospitalized 3 additional times (averaging once a year, every year, around the same time). I take Asocol and Remicade. Even with this medication, I continue to have UC episodes (some more extreme than others).
Avatar n tn I have daily headaches and chronic pain that generates from the tightness in my neck. I constantly am cracking my neck and massaging the area so I can get that one great crack that will relieve the chronic pain momentarily.
Avatar n tn I have a very sharp pain in my ovaries on my left side but i am not on my period what could this be?

Avatar n tn After more than 30 years of pain, bloating and consipation I was just recently diagnosed with toreous bowel. Great, there's a name for it now. Is there help? Very little. My doctor prescribed a med that costs close to $90 a month and which is not covered under my medical plan. Even if I could get it-there's no way I can afford this), it is still no guarantee it would help.
892237 tn?1249841914 Constipation can be a cause of upper middle and left side pain. When stool stays in the colon, bacteria break it down and produce gas. Gas sticks in the horisontal part of the colon, mostly on the left side. Try to empty your colon, ask for enema if nothing other won't help. Try to trigger bowel movement with drinking warm appricote or prune juice but don't exaggerate with the amount since it can cause terrible bloating. Slow stomach emptying is also possible though.
Avatar f tn I have POTS, and with it comes stomach issues. After seeing multiple GI's and surgeons, doing pelvic floor rehabilitation, many procedures, medications, etc.. my only option is to have my colon removed, due to "slow evacuation of the colon". I am not ready for that, so I deal with the repercussions until I am. I don't have Crohn's disease or ulcers, at least since my last endoscopy. But for years, I get these stomach flair ups.
Avatar f tn My 77 year old mom recently had emergency surgery to remove part of her colon on the right side that had died. At the ER they did a CT scan. The radiologist thought she had colon cancer and also noted she had duodenumitis. The surgeon did not think it was cancer but maybe diverticulitis because of her severe pain. Thankfully it was not cancer. The pathology report said it was ischemic colitis.
533880 tn?1237612452 in the left colon in the region of the descending colon and junction with sigmoid colon, there is wall thickening with adjacent inflammatory changes suggestive of diverticulitis. the possibility of an underlying neoplastic process cannot entirely be excluded. i recommend a follow up endoscopy when the patients symptoms improve." my husband followed up with his PCP after he finished his antibiotics. she recommended a second ct to see if the colon had healed.
Avatar f tn One thing that should put you at ease...Lower left quadrant pain in the colon is one of the most common symptoms of IBS. And, as you've already noticed, STRESS and ANXIETY make your IBS act worse than it would otherwise. I would ask either your PCP or your GI doctor about an antispadmodic medication for IBS called Bentyl (Dicyclomine). Just be sure you have the doctor explain what the medication is and what the side effects are.
Avatar f tn I wrote one of the larger labs in the US and no medications are known to affect the CEA readings, tho age (after 60, after 70), weight (larger people tend to have lower CEA readings) and smoking do.
Avatar m tn Its unlikely that IBS can cause back pain. IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion, i.e. once all other diseases of the colon like colitis, infections, tumors etc. have been ruled out, then the diagnosis of IBS is made. Take OTC pain medications like Tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen. Ensure to take them after food. If the pain persists or becomes more severe please consult your primary care physician. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Avatar f tn Removal of a part - or all - of the colon usually causes increased frequency of bowel motions as well as diarrhoea-like symptoms. The frequency does decrease over time. I suggest a high fibre diet - to include organic oats and bran dishes - as a way of counteracting the "liquidness" of the motions.

1872071 tn?1320287532 t been able to eat much because of the pain in my belly. What I wanted to know is can digestive/colon issues cause pain in my ovary? Or can ovary and hormonal issues cause colon/digestive issues? I don't like being a worry wart but I have a bad family history with both female reproductive issues and colon health. So I was hoping that someone can give me some insight on this sigs that I don't worry myself half to death while I wait on seeing the dr.
