Common Questions and Answers about Colon cleansing with laxatives

Avatar f tn This is going to be late for you, but you should never take liver cleansers while taking medication. What you're describing is a combination colon/liver cleanse. Milk thistle and yellowdock, for example, are liver cleansers, and could theoretically wash some of the medication out of our system, as the body sees virtually all medication as toxic.
Avatar m tn I think it depends on the type of enema. Using enemas frequently for constipation can cause your rectum to "forget" how to have a bowel movement naturally. Using enemas for "colon cleansing", I believe is not good, because your colon doesn't need any cleansing, it does this itself.
1454383 tn?1288947277 I am starting a colon cleaning diet with maximum burn and natural clean, because I had seen online at the CNN website that it really works fast. The products are cheep to buy as a trial and this is my second day on the pills. I only want to clean out my body and loose a bit of the belly flab, is this diet as safe and simple as I had heard? Has anyone on Medhelp ever tried the diet before?
Avatar m tn just a question, I was at GNC today and saw a product for colon or gastro cleansing. Has anyone used these, does it work and is it healty?
Avatar n tn I have tried the Advanced CleanseSmart kit and was wondering if it is safe for people with Hepatitis C to use. Does anyone have experience with this product or recommend one for those with Hep C? The ingredients are listed in the attached link http://www.renewlife.com/specs/SpecSheetRNLCleanseSmart.
425312 tn?1279966179 In my opinion, the whole colon cleansing thing is a scam. Around 5 years ago I had a colonoscopy done. They put you through a three-day fasting/fluid drinking thing before that. But no enemas or other fluid induction. As they were doing the procedure (it is no big deal by the way), I could see my colon on the TV screen. It was as fresh and clean as a . . . well . . . baby's bottom. So I don't take this stuff about stuff accumulating in your colon seriously anymore.
Avatar m tn t be used by children under 18 years of age, or in combination with other laxatives containing sodium phosphate.

Avatar f tn The problem with using products that do a colon cleanse is that they are filled with laxatives, yes most of them have natural elements, but laxatives none the less. This actually causes more problems to your colon over a period of time. I swore by a colon cleanse product prior to my colonoscopy it was the ONLY thing that made me regular.
Avatar f tn Hi I've been bleeding off and on from my colon for 10 years. I'm 30 and it started when I began to diet and try to lose weight. I was taking many kinds of laxatives at the time too. Through my 20s I struggled with weight and used laxatives and bled much from my colon. It wasn't until recent that I noticed barely no blood in stool but so much blood on toilet paper. So I'm definitely concerned. Do you think this is a sign of colon cancer?
Avatar n tn She had taken laxatives for many years and her colon had become almost inactive to the extent that a total colectomy was being considered to solve the problem. I suggest that you ask your doctor whether this may represent an eventual outcome for you if you take laxatives for many years. If so, then perhspa dietray modifications such as plenty of fibre (especially bran) in your diet may forestall the eventuial requirement for more drastic surgery.
Avatar m tn My doctor prescribed me oral sennosides for 2 weeks because I was having a mild-severe constipation, 2 tablets at night, but then I had to see another doctor who prescribed me with oral sennosides again for a week but now 2 tablets in the morning and 2 at night! So that makes a total of 3 weeks of laxatives use, so I stopped taking them, I've heard that using them for more than a week is dangerous and chronic use leads towards colon motility problems like atrophy.
794656 tn?1237171629 Laxative abuse can cause permanent damage to your kidneys, liver and colon function. Because laxatives work on the colon and not the stomach all but 12% of the calories ingested are excreted with laxative use. In addition, laxative abuse can cause dehydration, electrolyte imbalances (causing arrhythmias and heart attack), bloating, gas, severe abdominal pain, chronic diarrhea, vomiting and nausea. Avatar n tn but they just diagnosed me with a tortuous colon. My next step is to get the colon transit study xrays to see if my colon is working or not. If it is not I might be getting my large intestine removed. I too am looking for feedback on this surgery and if its worth it and if it is better then what I am going through now. The pros and cons etc. Also anyone that has had the surgery have they had issues with sexual intercourse after the surgery?? And what about medications and vitamins?
Avatar f tn I have since decided to not bother with cleansing diets, as I eat a healthy and balanced diet anyways with lots of fiber, vegetables/fruit, --no more apple cider vinegar, legumes, fish, lean and organically raised meats, lots of water, avoiding dairy and soy, and so on. Having been told that that's really all a cleansing diet is (adding more types of food to your diet, eliminating others, and/or fasting, or some combination of all three), I realize that I really don't need to do one.
214105 tn?1265935159 You're welcome. Do not go overboard with laxatives as they can worsen the condition.
569755 tn?1220872102 But this is considered the number one colon cleansing program in the world, and is very safe. There is a FAQ page on the site that answers the majority of questions regarding the cleanse if you would like to inquire further. Anyway, I hope you find a cure, whether it be this program or not (although I personally recommend it), and the link is posted below. See ya! drnatura.

Avatar m tn If constipation is a problem, try switching to a diet which guarantees at least 40g of fiber per day, using supplementation (psyllium husk supplementation like Metamucil) if necessary. Using chemical laxatives can lead to a further weakening of the colon, which can lead to further constipation, which can lead to other conditions. In short, fiber is your friend.
Avatar n tn ve been diagnosed with IBS - C but none of the medications work or laxatives work I can get some relief with 2 to 3 bottles of mag citrate and enemas but I have liquid green watery stool. Any suggestions?
Avatar m tn It could really help you. 2) STOP taking laxatives The more laxatives you take, the more it makes your colon lazy. 3) AVOID whole grains A lot of doctors suggest eating whole grains for constipation but it is BAD, especially when your colon isn't healthy. Whole grains act like little knives in your colon so if your colon is irritated, it's just going to irritate it more. STOP eating ALL kind of grains.
Avatar f tn   My concern now is that I have become to dependant of this form of unhealth colon.  I also have been treated for anxiety and depression with celexa and ativan for a year.  I have not had alot of exercise over the last year either.  I have been mostly on a weight watchers type diet and have the same thing every day.  I am sure you will agree that I need to get off these laxatives after using them for a long time.  What am I up against and what do you suggest.
