I think it depends on the type of enema. Using enemas frequently for constipation can cause your rectum to "forget" how to have a bowel movement naturally. Using enemas for "colon cleansing", I believe is not good, because your colon doesn't need any cleansing, it does this itself.

We have an hereditary colon cancer in our family, and my children from puberty, had to have them yearly, and they had no issues with it except for the prep. Different doctors use different things for cleansing the colon for the procedure. This ends up causing you to go to the bathroom many times the night prior to your procedure, but it's just to make sure your colon is clean so they can get a good view of it.

In my opinion, the whole colon cleansing thing is a scam. Around 5 years ago I had a colonoscopy done. They put you through a three-day fasting/fluid drinking thing before that. But no enemas or other fluid induction. As they were doing the procedure (it is no big deal by the way), I could see my colon on the TV screen. It was as fresh and clean as a . . . well . . . baby's bottom. So I don't take this stuff about stuff accumulating in your colon seriously anymore.

Update: The colon cleansing was too good (phosphosoda). It removed too much bacteria. So I was prescribed "Align" which is a probiotic. Each capsule has 1 Billion bacteria.!! The Doc gave me a 2 week sample supply. The pain is gone and the distention is starting to subside. This in the past 10 days. I really hope this helps someone else.

You were probably not doing it long enough, for a colonoscopy all you have to do is take something that will flush you out one or two days before the examination. This does not get rid of candida, parasites, and all the rest that does not belong in your intestines. It takes time to get rid of all those.

The pill is for the prep for the colonoscopy. I actually just learned that my in-laws also used it for their colonoscopies and they said the pills were much better than drinking the liquid prep. So, as long as I can down 20 pills in an hour, this prep hopefully will be a bit easier since the liquid prep makes me vomit.

if they are doing a scope on your large intestine than yes they look at all 3 sections of your colon.

I am 42 and have tried to get my GP to schedule a colonoscopy for me.(only been going to her for 2 yrs.) She was very hesistant. Finally after 2 months she called and said they would send my name to the surgeon and they would have to schedule it. Well its been over a month now and no word.

Hi, I had a emergency right hemi-colectomy after my colon was punctured during a colonoscopy. I was in surgery for 3 hours. Before my surgery, my asthma was under control and I could run for 25-30 minutes. Now, 2 months later, breathing is awful. My chest feels tight. I am not wheezing and do not feel I need my inhaler but I can not run for more than 2 minutes without being short of breath.If I do use the inhaler, it does not seem to change anything.

Thanx in advance for any knowledge. I had removal of ascending colon (lap assist) 5 weeks ago & have recovered well (still sore) but back to my exercise & fitness routine. I function exactly like I did before (BM's & all) & would not know anything is "missing" if I had no scarring or sorenness. This is probably the best time for a colonoscopy because your colon will be clean already, and had time to rid itself of excess contents from thr constipation caused by the pills. They will make you drink a cleansing agent anyway, so you will be well prepared, lol. Drink at least a quart of water daily until then to protect from dehydration. Thank you for the info. The ER doctor mentioned colon cancer not being a worry because the catscan didn't show any masses, however it's still a concern for me. After reading so many posts, I know I'm not alone.
