Avatar n tn com/colorectal-cancer/home-test-colon-cancer-cologuard#1 If no problems are found using this test, then your doctor will probably forego a colonoscopy. If you have a family history of colon cancer, or risk factors, screening and detection are definitely issues that warrant discussion with your doctor to determine what alternative methods may work for you. Eliminating scar tissue is, unfortunately, usually a losing battle.

212161 tn?1599427282 Or any other condition doctor wants to keep an eye on? I believe any predisposition to colon cancer, like having a close relative die of the disease, is a variable doctors keep in mind as well. I am an anal cancer survivor, and the colonoscopy proved to be a poor tool for finding it. This is a fairly rare cancer, so a doctor has to be looking for it to find. My colon is brittle from radiation so a complete exam with this test is impossible.

Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with colon cancer 8 years ago and they removed 19 inches of my colon at that time. Now, I had a PET scan done a few weeks ago and a spot (size of a lima) bean was found. I was sent to an orthopaedic doctor and he has discussed the scans with 4 radiologist and they will not commit 100% it is not cancer. So, now they ahve requested a CT/biopsy after a consultation with an Interventional radiologist next week. Do you feel this could be cancer?
Avatar f tn t think it is hereditary because they got their colon cancer at the age wherein a person is at risk of colon cancer. If you have this cases in your family, it is a nice move to have a test for colon cancer at your early age. http://colonnews.
Avatar f tn However, since your mother had a previous history of colon cancer, a CEA value of 10.0 should make us highly suspicious of colon cancer recurrence. When you go to the oncologist, what the doctor is likely to do is to perform additional tests (e.g. abdominal CT scan, colonoscopy) to look for evidence of cancer. You can reassure her by saying that at this point, we really don't know if she has cancer again.
Avatar m tn Gas pains are relieved by passing gas and there is usually a sound or a feeling of movement along with it. Colon cancer stomach pains are usually in the later stages of colon cancer. At your age with your symptoms colon cancer shouldn't even be considered as a possibility.
974371 tn?1424653129 Have a friend that is about 82. He had surgery fop or colon cancer about two years ago. He has been on some type of Chemo and oral meds since. Was told on one CAT scan, it was stable. Last CAT scan showed rumors had gotten bigger. I don't have many details. The doctor has stopped the Chemo and Cancer meds. Said he discussed it with some board and no other treatment suggested. I find this hard to believe! Can't they do surgery again to remove the rumors?
Avatar n tn Hello and welcome to MedHelp Forums. I'm very sorry to read you are having a difficult time. Your first thing to do is to again, speak to your doctor. You have had a coloscopy that is recent and your findings at that time were not such to raise the suspicions of colon cancer then or now with your doctor. Colon cancer is slow growing and that is why screenings are important because it allows it to be caught in treatable stages.
Avatar n tn I'm so scared because I suspect I may have colon cancer. My symptoms are: microscopic blood in the fecal test administered by the dr, diarrea, and back pain. I don't have bloody stools and haven't lost any weight but from what I've read, some people are practically symptomless. I have an appt.in 3 weeks for a colonoscopy. I'm so worried that I can't think straight. I know that no one can help me out there but I needed to tell someone who is not related to me.
Avatar n tn Paula Yes he goes to the Va and is considered a 100% disabeled, It sounds like you are going threw alot too - I feel for you - My husband doesnt have A apotite at all he has some diminsha- never wants to eat -plus he is incontinite- the doctor did a strip on him and the poop came back normal - then he had the xray and cat scan done - we do have a aid that comes in 3 times a week for 2 hours each time because i never could get him in shower and with her she never has a problem with him and if i
Avatar f tn So I have been worrying about colon cancer off and on for over 3 months right now. From what I've been hearing getting symtoms with colon cancer usually doesn't happen later on right? So let's assume ribbon/penceil thin stool is a symtom of colon cancer like everyone else says it it. If I had colon cancer since I started worrying about it, wouldn' things have gotten a lot worse for me by now and I would have a lot of the other symtoms by now too?
Avatar n tn For colon cancer, a colonoscopy will show it.
Avatar n tn I'm a 54 year old woman with a family history of colon cancer (an Aunt at 72 and and Sister at 18). I've recently had some bleeding and don't know whether to worry about it or not. It's bright red and very small amount. I also have hemmoroids that I've always put this down too, but I'm just starting to wonder if I should be worried.
Avatar n tn I am a 46 year old female and I am experiencing the same symptoms - rectal pressure - not too bad, stomach aches every other day and intermittent pain in my upper right side. I had diarrhea last week and now my stool is thin (not quite pencil thin), but is brown, not black and I have not seen any blood. I'm going to see my GI doctor this Friday and I'm sure he's going to recommend a colonoscopy. I'm not afraid of the test - just the diagnosis.
Avatar m tn No one in my family has had colon cancer. Three months ago I was diagnosed with mono, which really brought down my whole immune system. I then had walking pneumonia. I had sinus infections in between too, which caused me to take many antibiotics. I have a severely sensitive stomach and the antibiotics ruined my stomach. Ever since than, I have been very nauseous, no energy at all, loss of appetite, and some pain in my left lower abdomen.
Avatar m tn I wouldnt worry about colon cancer. From what you are saying it doesnt seem likely. My initial thought is that you have developed a food allergy. I suggest going to an allergy specialist and have them run a test. Until then, try keeping a food journal of everything you eat and drink, as well as how you feel and bowel movements. See if you notice feeling bad after you eat certain types of foods.
Avatar n tn I will say that you 100% should have the colonoscopy, especially if you have immediate family with colon cancer. If the colon cancer is distant, like great uncles, 2nd cousins, etc, your chances of having it are less likely. Keep us updated, but remember there are tons of other issues it could be. As for the raised alt, I had the same. Mildly elevated AST and ALT, and come to find out it was because I lifted heavy weights 5 days a week.
Avatar m tn After 3 months I had a severe diarhea and convinced myself that i had colon cancer. My doctor sent me for CBC, occult blood test, liver enzimes, ESR, tumor marker, ultrasound and finally a CT scan with oral contrast,Nothing was found, He told me i have IBS. The issue its that my abdominal pain continues and i tend to develop very loose stools.
Avatar n tn A routine health examination gave a positive FOB test (twice). I have no history of parents with cancer (both 78) and have never suffered from any gastric disorders. My motions are morning/regular and soft. The result was a complete surprise and all other tests (blood/urine) etc were totally normal. I have had one large external pile for 8 years since delivering my children, but have never experienced any discomfort/bleeding.
1282678 tn?1275186261 From what I have been through and what oncologist just told me, CTscans are OK for a basic check, but won't tell physician the details of what is going on. I was trying to get out of a barium enema..lol. You may need a test that lets doc either do a biopsy or some sort of tissue exam of vagina, or see urologist for whatever test it is that they do. I saw one for complications arising from radiation scarring. No CT scan mentioned.
Avatar n tn but tonight a blood clot came out and this made me think that maybe this is serious now, i have also had frquent ose bleeding past week, and my periods have stopped since october. ( i am not pregnant, i had 2 blood test, multi home tests, and 2 ultrasounds) i am wondering if my absent periods and nose bleeding have to do with this anal bleeding. i noticed i have 2 or 3 symptoms of colon cancer, but im nto sure. does anyone know what could be wrong, or what could possibly going on?
