Avatar f tn s complications such as pancreatic insufficiency, for which I take Creon enzymes with each meal, and Colesevelam for bile salts. We cannot prescribe any drugs as a lot of them are toxic, and can only be prescribed by a Gastroenterologist. I would suggest you have a consultation with your own gastro and heed his advice - they are the experts, not us! Take care, Liz.
Avatar n tn Londres is certainly correct that there are a few other options available to treat what could be assumed to be familial hypercholesterolaemia, even though your doctor has obviously tried those that would be most obvious. Generally, if you experience muscle weakness as a side effect of Lipitor (atorvastatin), other statins will produce similar effects, so that eliminates the use of Zocor (simvastatin), Crestor (rosuvastatin) etc.

Avatar n tn Jen, Hypoglycemia is not the same as diabetes, but they both have to do with insulin and blood sugar. Type 1 diabetes is different from Type 2, too. As I understand hypoglycemia, it is the condition where a person produces TOO MUCH insulin in response to glucose. Type 1 diabetes is often called Juvenile Diabetes because most folks with it are diagnosed before adulthood.

Avatar m tn My internist told me its muscular neuropathy caused by diabetes. Put me on citalopram and painkillers. My 2HR glucose was 117 and after 2hrs 170 .generally my sugar level is higher above 150 at random. I still have under arm pain and thighs pain though it has lessened now. But when it returns ,I feel bouts of anxiety and stress. I'm not on diabetes treatment. I believe I had diabetes since long. I have lipomas, when they form I'm in extreme pain.
Avatar f tn Congratulations on trying to conceive! I was being treated with Metformin for my diabetes risk and irregular cycles. For women, Metformin can also make them super fertile (odd side effect) while regulating blood sugars. I'm not familiar with men and fertility issues, so I did a quick search and found this: Male Infertility & Diabetes DCS: What about diabetes and infertility as it is related to males? Does it cause fertility issues in men, too? Dr. Falcone: Yes.
Avatar f tn But then, I manage and control my glucose levels carefully and live a healthy lifestyle. Quoting from an article on mismanaged diabetes, "Researchers believe that up to 50% of people with diabetes will experience some sort of sexual dysfunction at some point. But even if diabetes doesn’t directly cause sexual dysfunction, other diabetes-related health issues can influence your sexual desire and may be a threat to intimacy within a relationship.
Avatar n tn Let me try and answer your questions about exercise and diabetes. I am not aware of any connection between the onset of diabetes and over-exertion. Exercise helps people with diabetes keep their blood sugar in good control and within a normal range. Glucose is used while exercising, which would lower the blood sugar level, not raise it. If you are predisposed to developing type 1 diabetes, no amount of exercise will change this.

Avatar n tn There are many risks in being an insulin dependant diabetic and getting pregnant but many women do it and have healthy babies (me being one!) Studies have shown that effective control of diabetes during the periconceptional period (refers to the period of time three months before pregnancy through the first three months of pregnancy) in women with diabetes reduces the risk for birth defects in their children.

Avatar f tn I have pre-existing diabetes, and my last baby came unexpectedly. I went for a regular checkup and her heartbeat was dipping too fast and too often, so they induced that day. I was totally blindsided and unprepared. So my advice would be to be ready for the unexpected. You could possibly have your baby early. Hopefully all goes well and your sugar will stay in control and lead to a healthy, full term baby.
Avatar f tn That being said, recentely the FAA Aeromedical Division relaxed standards for those with diabetes, and you can obtain a third-class medical (with a waiver) and fly as a private pilot when your glucose levels are below 200.

Avatar m tn We volunteers for JDRF are well-read on diabetes and its treatmends and on how it affects the people who live with it, but most of us are not medical professionals. So I will leave you with these fairly basic responses, and suggest that you perhaps use my comments to perhaps spur a call to a local endocrinologist to ask the specific why's if you seek more specific information on how cells change during illness or stress.
