This past Tuesday, I had a mishap with a very hot piece of food that went straight to my throat for a few seconds, and I drank some cold water real fast. What's strange is that there was hardly any pain then nor until now, four days later (Saturday), however, my voice has been affected (hoarseness). My voice has not come back to normal since, and now I'm starting to get concerned.

When I was in my early teens, if I would try to shout suddenly, my voice would unexpectedly come out as a squeak. It has never happened to me since then, so I assumed it might be something related to the change from a kid's voice to an adult's voice. It doesn't happen for women the way it does for men, but it happens to a slight extent. Maybe that's what is going on for you.

So I caught a terrible cold! I was wondering if any of you know any safe remedies for a sore throat? My throat hurts really bad, it hurts to swallow.

have a soar throat for almost a week now, resultently my voive is gone. though this is not new for me as i lost my voice earlier with Phyrangitis, but this time i guess the doctor is taking time to help me out. its more than painful. I'm a teacher and can't continue my work with this. Need to know the causes first...plz.

Hi, Yes i was not able to talk for about 2 months after total thyroidectomy my voice came back but never like b4 i used to sing but now i can't even speak loud...avoid cold drinks & be careful just before 2 weeks i lost my voice completely because of Flu (Rheum, influenza) take care of ur self ur throat is extremely sensitive now...

Hi guys, On my way to Neuro this morn. With new symptoms. Ive lost my voice and its hard to swallow food. Ive looked this up and the outcome looks grim. Has anyone had this problem and gotten over it?

I never had any speach problems after the surgery, but I have had a bad cold....Is losing my voice just a coincedence, or should I be worried about nerve damage? I saw my general doctor yesterday, and he said it is just a coincedence and that if there was damage it would have happened right after the surgery. I was so happy with how everything was coming along, but now I'm freaked out about this. Any ideas? Thanks!

Unless you have a fever over 100, I would just use OTC and natural remedies. Keep an eye on it and if you develop a higher fever, the sore throat persists more than three days or you develop flu like symptoms- then call your pcp.

Mints, Flat coke, (even though thats for stomach bugs, but it will work) and for the headaches, I suffer from Migrains And a COLD wet flannel or cold Frozen peas in a towel and put it on your head :) same with period pains haha.. Ermm, Theres loads, but they helped me..

It has been my savoir the last three days, I have a serious cold. Good luck they also have me non medication type remedies, might be worth checking out.

A week and a half ago, I caught a cold. after about 3-4 days, I'd lost my voice and at its current state, my voice is now back for the most part, but my throat is still a little scratchy. This is probably expected. Anyway, I was convinced that I was getting better, until... A couple of days ago, I started feeling pain in my neck, this is on the right side, right where I can feel myself swallow.

Also eating garlic is good, not really pleasant but it works. Google cold home remedies and they can properly tell you the steps. Be patient they work. I had a nasty cough with mucus and didn't want to take medicine to be safe.

m allergic to cold medicine, so I always use natural remedies. As soon as I feel a cold coming on, I double my Vitamin C. I also steam fresh mint leaves for congestion and make and my own vitamin water using mint leaves, fresh cut lemons and limes. I can usually kick a cold within 2-3 days using these remedies. Yea that was all I threw up when I had morning sickness. I had to force myself to eat and drink so I would throw something else up. Eat lots of salad with grilled chicken or veggies. Half the time I kept everything down but still threw up bile. Get throat lozegens non medicated to coat your throat it will burn or throat after a while. I would lose my voice for days. And remedies didn't help. I lost 20lbs in 2 weeks. Drink lots of Gatorade. That was all my doctor allowed me to drink.

Started with a horrible cough, then a head cold. Due to the coughing, I have lost my voice (at this point I can only whisper). I started feeling better and my voice started coming back, just to get sick all over again. Voice, once again, GONE. After about a month, I went to see my PCP which told me I had bronchitis and laryngitis. She put me on Amoxicilian, Claritin, tessalon pearl (for the cough) and albuterol inhaler.
