Cold knife surgery

Common Questions and Answers about Cold knife surgery

cold

Avatar f tn After way too many trips to Emergency Room for a Foley catheter, I had laser surgery and then cold knife surgery. Surgery alone almost never fixes a stricture permanently. What finally worked is a second cold knife surgery followed by 6 months with a temporary stent (Spanner). I took the Spanner out March 30 this year and have had NO retention problems since that date and my flow rate is above normal for my age (77) and has remained unchanged since the Spanner was removed.
Avatar f tn I had a Cold Knife Cone Biopsy done a week ago and my cramps are worse and the black discharge got significantly heavier, I am worried that this is not normal.
Avatar f tn Hallo Doctors, does someone who has prostate cancer (MRI test shows cancer spread only within the prostate) have gamma knife or surgery to remove it. Does gamma knife ensure all cancer cells are burned? Does gamma knife ensure beningn prostate self corrects to allow normal urination? Isnt complete radiation or surgery the best option to ensure cancer is all removed?
Avatar n tn I had Gamma-Knife Surgery 4 months ago for Trigeminal Neuralgia. After the surgery, I felt no different than before. However, recently, I began to feel a twinge in my lip like a oncoming cold sore. Two weeks later, I have almost complete numbness on the entire left side of my face. I am incredible greatful because my pain is gone, but I no longer feel anything. I feel as though I can't move my face even though the PA said it's all within the nerve not the muscle.
Avatar m tn You have a type of tumor that can be treated with medications. however, yours is very large. Yes, you need to take the medications and see how it effects the size. Has your doctor discussed with you the side effects of the gamma knife and that it will take 6 months to 5 years to work? And that you may lose your other hormones, and may have to take other medications?
Avatar m tn Cheers for that (I think!). Is there any other way of getting rid of polyps or shrinking them so far that they don't cause trouble, short of surgery? I've had enough surgery in my time that it doesn't really bother me but my wife doesn't like the idea of going under the knife, so for something which is primarily just noisy, she's not going to want me to agree to surgery.
Avatar m tn They watched it for a while with MRIs as it slowly grew bigger. They almost waited until it was too big to do gamma knife surgery (called bloodless surgery, using gamma rays and a helmet they screw on to make sure the head is absolutely still during the procedure). The meningioma was extremely close to the optic nerve where they almost couldn't do gamma knife as well. But thanks be to God, they were able to and it wasn't quite too big to do gamma knife surgery.
Avatar f tn surgery because the only blood involves the little screws they use for the helmet they pass the gamma rays through (small bandaid size) might be right for you. Gamma knife surgery is what a close relative of mine had for her meningioma located between her eyes.
Avatar f tn I also was not a candidate for traditional surgery for my avm and instead had gamma knife radiation. idk the outcome yet as it has only been 4 months but the recovery time was much shorter than it would have been with open surgery. i am 17 now btw, i was 16 at the time of the surgery but where are u from??
Avatar m tn Has anyone had the gamma knife surgery and in doing so worried about radiation exposure? I know it is extremely high in order to destroy the nerve. I would love to know how people deal with and approach the fact even though the radiation is highly targeted, it is still approaching high theapuetic levels. I have pain in both sides of the trigeminal nerve and may need one dose to each side. The idea of that much radiation freaks me out to point I am consdiering Rhizotomy instead. Thanks!
Avatar f tn My 41 year old sister was dianosed with stage 3 or 4 ovarian cancer in October. The doctors could not perform the debulking surgery because her largest tumor is wrapped around an artery close to her pancreas. The doctor's plan was to give her the standard chemo, try to shrink the tumor and then do the debulking surgery, followed by more chemo.
Avatar n tn Need to know on how does the reduction of a malignant tumor in the brain happen post gama knife surgery. A close relative of mine had a gama knife surgery done post which within the next three months the lesion was reduced to half its orignal size. But in another two months it has again increased by a few mms though not to its original size. The doctor says that it would reduce again and has kept her on medications. Wanted to know if this is correct.

1444333 tn?1284383882 In 2008 I had surgery on my R knee to remove part of my meniscus due to it being severely torn. Currently I am 5 months preg, I've only gained 8lbs this pregnancy and the pain has come back in the same area. When I walk, sometimes it drags me down because it hurts. It fells like someone stabbed me behind my knee w/ a knife. If i sit with my knees bent/folded, I can feel the same pain. I apply pressure to the painful area, it feels tender and sore.
Avatar f tn Are you having surgery with a cyber-knife, with my current job I help make the cathode or the heart of the cyber-knife. I currently only have a gyno.
Avatar f tn I have had cold symptoms for weeks. I finally broke down and went to med express where they pretty much treated me like a criminal for wanting to feel better. I has tried all the home remedies but nothing worked. They ended up giving me an antibiotic at med express. I felt better for a few days but now I feel worse then I did before. I feel like someone is scrapping my throat with a knife everytime I cough which is like every five minutes.
637613 tn?1281039564 A close relative of mine had gamma knife surgery for a meningioma on the brain. It went well and the tumor shrank for awhile. Now it has been remaining the same size. So long as it's not growing, that's good! I believe cyber knife is an advance on gamma knife.
Avatar f tn I had cervical cancer 7 years ago and had a surgery called a cold knife cone which cut out a thin layer of my cervix. My stomach is tender to the touch and the cramps are more mild than any menstrual cramps I had.

On the first of november I had a feeling that i was pregnant and i was also supposed to start my period on that day. The test came back positive. I had some pain and some slight bleeding. I called my doctor and talked to the nurse she told me to take it easy and i was to be the next day for my post op exam.
1132531 tn?1385494061 I was hit in the throat with my daughters head. My neck reacted by fanning out like peacock feathers. This has been an ongoing quest for pain relief for over 20 years. Recently, online a Dr. in Michigan said I have Hyoid Bone Syndrome. It feels like I've always a knife stabbing me in the back of my tongue. It is every time I move my tongue. It's very hard to eat, sleep, even focus on anything..with this stabbing pain.
Avatar f tn If you have Type 1 TN -- the electric jolt-like pain: The only non-destructive surgery is an MVD. The "experts" say it should be the first surgery you try -- since the success rate is about 90-95% and it lasts the longest. It tries to resolve what's causing the pain by padding the blood vessel/veins that are pressing on your nerve and causing the pain. The other procedures - Gamma Knife, all varieties of Rhizotomy, etc are considered "destructive" procedures.
Avatar m tn )). For the waiter to have touched the knife in bringing it to you would not lead to transfer of HIV which you could acquire, even in the unlikely situation that the waiter had HIV. HIV is not transferred in this way, in part because it dies very quickly on exposure to the environment, Just as an additional statement, not only is there no risk to you of HIV from this event but also no risk of other blood borne pathogens such as hepatitis B or C.
Avatar f tn In 1999 I had gamma knife surgery for a menimgioma which was originally thought to be a pineal tumor. Now I have developed head tremmors and dizzyness. Is this a side effect post gamma knife? I have not had a follow up MRI due to being extremely claustrophobic and the whole gamma knife thing was a horrible experience. I did have a CT scan about a year ago which showed no mass but some brain atrophy. I am a 57 year old female. I also get headaches.
