675347 tn?1365460645 I had lucid dreams (when you know, in the dream, that you are dreaming) But as soon as I do realize that it kind of gives me a shock, and I wake up! So I have no idea where this realization could lead. I've heard that lucid dreaming can be used to help solve problems in life, and give Spiritual direction. Also I don't seem to be able to do this at will. Does anyone have any experience with this?
5621933 tn?1371092794 I can dream, get up and go back to sleep and dream the same dream. I have lucid dreamt since childhood and only recently realised it was an actual term or phenomenon. I have restless sleep and struggle to fall asleep a lot and cannot maintain a normal sleep pattern no matter how hard I try. I sleep for usually about 7hours but at the wrong time of day I also struggle to wake up. I just wondered if anyone else has these characteristics, or problems?
Avatar m tn I also seem to be suffering from false awakenings (I wake up but I only dream that I wake up.) as you can probably tell this is all very confusing for me.
Avatar m tn Given your description it sounds to me like you have achieved lucid dreaming, that is you know you are asleep. See Lucid Dreaming I recommend the book by Stephen DeBerges (I think that is the name) he's with Stanford University. The options you seem to have it to engage the dreams with you conscious mind, first make sure you are dreaming - DeBerges gives some ideas on how to test without taking unnecessary risks. The other option, I have taken, is wake myself up.
Avatar m tn For me it typically happens when I am in a deep sleep and the dream turns into a lucid one. Lucid dreams are like being conscious in your sleep. It is hard when it is a nightmare but great when it is a good dream. Last night I had a stressful nightmare and I woke this morning on the edge and panicky.
Avatar f tn they are the type that seem so real, that when we wake up, it takes a few minutes for us to cop onto the fact that it was just a dream. If you were dreaming dogs were attacking you in a lucid dream or anything with pain, you would really think you are feeling that pain. But lucid dreams occur either just as we go to sleep or when we are about to awake. Thus we are between both states. Not 100% asleep, but not awake either. Hence they appear more real.
Avatar n tn If that is the case you are just one step away from taking conscious control of you dream - look up Lucid Dreaming on the web, in particular I like the work by Stephen LaBarge (not sure of the last name) of Stanford U.
Avatar f tn Some people even claim things actually happened when it was merely a lucid dream. Do not worry... Everything is okay! However if they get too bad, I'd talk with a doctor.
Avatar f tn Some of them are downright terrifying to the point where I wake up in cold sweats..and some of them are just so weird that they get disturbing and bother me for hours after I wake up and leave me sick to my stomach. Is there any way I can stop these enough to rest a little...I end up cometely exhausted every day and working at 5 am I can't take sleep aids because they make me so groggy...please help!
Avatar f tn Hello. For a few years now there have been times when as I'm falling asleep, it feels like someone grabs gives my leg a hard pull (it happened last night, actually). And there are other times when if I'm having a dream, and something in my dream makes me anxious, I can feel myself start to wake up,or I'm aware that it's a dream (or both), and I fully wake up to my heart racing.
Avatar f tn I actually found an article about this the other day. Nightmares alone can be diagnosed as a sleeping disorder if you can meet with a doctor who's familiar with them. I don't know if you have any history of sleeping disorders or PTSD but they can also contribute. https://vanwinkles.com/yes-you-can-be-diagnosed-with-nightmares What you're experiencing doesn't really sound like a lucid dream though.
Avatar f tn If you could somehow produce this melatonin release after you wake up and while in the alpha beta state, you will likey be able to lucid dream... All you need to lucid dream is to have Extra Melatonin just after you wake up. But Very Rare indeed.
1305767 tn?1361192676 It's happened to me three times this year. In every instance I dreamed that I was asleep and woke up, in my own house, then something bad starts to happen and I can't move or scream. I really don't realize I'm dreaming because like I said it mimics reality. I think the stress of the dream is what eventually wakes me up.
Avatar f tn There was this guy that looked around 21-22. I kind of liked him in the dream and was flirting with him, we were making out. But i don't even know who he is. I've never seen him before, i barely even remember his face, i find it really weird. But anyways, turns out he was trying to get in some other girls pants too.
Avatar m tn No idea, happens to me alot, but it is right at that threshold where you can lucid dream, give it a try, you can do or be anything you want.
Avatar m tn Ok, so where do I start with my sleep problems? To many to list! But, it's becoming a pain in the backside now. For over 2 years I've had sleep problems that annoy the hell out of me. They used to scare me, but I've gotten used to it now. I'm awaiting a sleep study at a local hospital but appointments can take up to 6 months. Some nights I will choke in my sleep. Last night I dreamt I was eating chewing gum and I chocked on it.
Avatar f tn They have full stories that I could recite to you without a problem. However, the other night I had a dream where I had to get away from someone and I bit them. I woke up that morning with a pretty deep bite mark on my arm. How did I not wake up from the bite and what's causing my crazy vivid dreams?
Avatar f tn In a dream, and I think this is an extension of a dream, one can try to resolve mental conflicts/concerns by first recognizing they are dreaming, then engaging the dream. Here you know you are awake, check on that - see Lucid Dreaming on the web (I like a book by Stephan DeBerges - think that the name, Stanford U) to see how to determine if you are dreaming or awake. Be sure you are dreaming before you take any physical risks.
4749018 tn?1372359546 My dreams feel very real too. Always about death, kidnap, or sex. Ive woken up many times crying or telling my hubby off cuz i would be so mad at him in my dream. I think its just pregnancy. Theres only meaning if you let it be. Some people truly believe and dreams and will start seeing meanings all over. But in my dream i got kidnap and torn into pieces and the kidnapers cut open my stomach to let my baby die in front of me before i died myself. Do i think it means something? Not at all.
Avatar n tn In all these instances, I am at least semiconsciously aware acting as if the dream was real. Within a few minutes however, I also realize it was just a dream and I go back to bed. What type of dreaming is this? Are these nightmares or a form of lucid dreaming or sleep walking?
Avatar f tn Wanting to know if anyone else experience these kind of dreams. Every once in awhile I'll have a dreams and in the dream I can feel, smell and sometimes taste things.
10251584 tn?1408816557 s around me (the objects in my bedroom, etc), but my mind has already gone into the dream world. This combo of being asleep and awake at the same time sometimes alters the objects that my eyes see. This makes me uncomfortable and the only way to wake up is by vibrating my body till I am conscious. What is this and is it normal?
Avatar m tn For the past year I have been experiencing sleep paralysis on a daily basis. Every time this happens I feel my whole brain buzzing like there is electricity flowing through it and it pulses slowly as more and more pain starts to accumulate. It gets to be so painful it feels like my brain is about to implode and no matter what I do I always feel extreme pain. I hear myself telling myself to wake up before the pain gets unbearable but it doesn't work most of the time.
Avatar f tn Some people seek out these experiences, as a way to get closer to lucid dreaming. Personally, ib understand the experiences too terrifying to seek out. I at first had the feeling when I'd wake that there was an evil presence in the room with me. Specifically I knew it was Satan, trying to possess me. And I don't even think I believe in a literal Satan. After this happened a few times I talked to my pastor/therapist about it.
Avatar m tn I would be well awake and I would get a dream that would be about 30 second long in 1 second (basically as long as it took me to make 1 step (that is about 1 second or less) and then sometimes I would have a dream that would last 10 seconds but find myself 5 minutes away from where I started (maybe a little exaggerated but you get the idea).
Avatar f tn The subject Lucid Dreaming is a science not religious subject as far as I know. It has some uplifting aspects as it has as a goal of one participating with their conscious minds in their dreams. The big problem making the transition to consciousness while remaining asleep. One key motivation is the idea of getting more out of the many hours of our lives we spend (waste) in sleep.
Avatar f tn One night I woke up I saw a man in a suit with grey hair (I could point him out in a crowd) stood next to my bed, I didn't close my eyes or lay back down I simply ran into my parents room to tell my mum what happened. Next, my mum told me to go back to sleep so I went back into my room and checked for the man but found no one so I got back into bed and tried to sleep. This has happened before but I saw a different person at the end of my bed around 10 years ago.
