Coffee caffeine and blood pressure

Common Questions and Answers about Coffee caffeine and blood pressure

coffee

Avatar f tn Many randomized experiments have been performed but with different coffee or caffeine intakes. In a recent meta-analysis of 16 trials with both coffee and caffeine interventions, we showed that for coffee trials with a median intake of 725 mL coffee/d there was a rise of 1.2 mm Hg in systolic blood pressure and of 0.5 mm Hg in diastolic blood pressure (1). These trials were designed for a short follow-up duration.
Avatar n tn Tea does not trigger a blood pressure spike, for most people. Tea has compounds in it that counteract what caffeine does to blood pressure, so the net effect is a wash. If you like tea, and you have high blood pressure, you're probably better off drinking tea than coffee.
Avatar f tn Do you have high blood pressure? Caffeine can raise blood pressure. Actually, studies show those who have fatty liver benefit from caffeine. Coffee caffeine consumption is associated with a significant reduction in risk of fibrosis among NASH patients. Drinking coffee may help prevent diabetes as caffeine may be the ingredient largely responsible for this effect. Looks like you will be changing doctors.
Avatar n tn My mom kept telling me I should have a little bit of caffeine. About three weeks ago I caved, and went to jack in the box for my coffee. I figured they're so sweet how much caffeine can really be in them lol. Literally I drink maybe half of a small coffee, I've my head for about 30 min, and viola- headache gone! I've done this about 4 times. So, here is my question (and I'll ask my OB), is it risky to introduce caffeine now seeing as how I had zero my whole first trimester?
Avatar f tn Caffine is a stimulant. It can increase your heart rate and blood pressure. It also passes through the placenta. It can cause an increase in baby's heart rate and blood pressure. It can also impact blood flow to and from the placenta. It is OK to have a limited amount but you shouldn't over do it.
Avatar n tn I drank coffee throughout my first pregnancy and my son is fine. I think its 500mg of caffeine per day..
Avatar m tn Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum. I see u also joined the EDS forum, do u have chiari as well? What type of EDS do u have?
Avatar f tn I would just take precautions to lower it, which from what I know: lower your salt intake(like said above), if you smoke, stop(also for the health of your little one!), and don't have any caffeine. I would stay away from coffee, soda, and anything else with high sodium, caffeine and sugar because those all can raise it! It's best to try to control it before it gets bad:) prevention is the best way to avoid problems.
1303966 tn?1296740010 I have not had a CINE MRI, any my Chiari specialist does not do them. Can caffeine increase CSF and therefore cause pressure when the fluid is getting trapped (pressure build-up)?
Avatar n tn I mix it up. I have an espresso machine I bought back in those carefree days before I became an angst-ridden PVC'er. I keep regular and decaf espresso on hand and I'll mix a little bit of regular in with the decaf depending on how I feel. In the am I take my blood pressure and if its ok and I'm not having any palps before my beta blocker kicks in, I'll add more regular to the mix. I find though that every day is different.
Avatar n tn I still drink coffee every day but i dont overdo it.. just one coffee a day and it will be fine..
Avatar n tn Every body is difference, and perhaps yours has an unusual reaction to coffee. Have you tried decaf and seen how your blood sugar does? Have you tried just straight black coffee, no cream or sugar? You might want to experiment a little, to see if it's the caffeine that''s the culprit, and if it is, you might want to give it up. Good luck with the sleuthing.
Avatar f tn I'm 37+2 with my second. My first is 18 months old and there was no way I could survive without coffee this pregnancy. I just limit myself to 1 cup every morning and that's my only source of caffeine except for occasional iced tea. Baby is great, my blood pressure is great.
Avatar f tn I never drink coffee cause i do a mild case of the jitters and feel uncomfortable, but because i was extremely tired going into work at 7am, i went to my work cafeteria and drank a cup of coffee. About 15 minutes after I drank the coffee, I started to feel this intense heat and pressure in the back of my head followed by extreme paranoia, fear, anxiety, crazy thoughts, and a fear of not being able to control my body. I was really scared and didn't know what to do.
7878456 tn?1395003341 Did you know it takes us pregnant women longer to detoxify caffeine and even other ingredients in coffee? It crosses over to the baby and can cause irregular heartbeat. In the second and third trimester it will take 3 times as long fir the babys system to detoxify. Also it decreases your mineral absorption. It makes your body more acidic. It can cause miscarriage and also decreases your fertility. It can later lead to osteoporosis. In general regular or extreme use is horrible on your body.
Avatar m tn hi dr malhotra, can you tell me more about the interaction between ginkgo biloba and caffeine. u mention hypertension, which is high blood pressure am i right?
Avatar f tn Because caffeine is a stimulant, it increases your blood pressure and heart rate, both of which are not recommended during pregnancy. Caffeine also increases the frequency of urination. This causes reduction in your body fluid levels and can lead to dehydration. Caffeine crosses the placenta to your baby. Although you may be able to handle the amounts of caffeine you feed your body, your baby cannot. Your baby's metabolism is still maturing and cannot fully metabolize the caffeine.
209987 tn?1451935465 Been feeling MUCH better since giving up coffee and other caffeine related items...never liked chocolate much anyway. lol Thanks so much erijon! As always, your answers are much appreciated.
Avatar f tn Thanks ladies. Im trying to ween off of it w/ an occassional cup of iced flavored decaf every now and then but then I try to drink more water.....which keeps me in and out of the bathroom. Lol. Does the caffeine in soda cause the same: dehydration and hike in blood pressure? (I don't like or drink soda. Just curious.
Avatar m tn my methadone doctor actually advocates for taking coffee. i was taking ephederine instead of coffee and she was yelling at me telling me to drink coffee.. i was constipated. drink coffee. i am too sleepy. drink coffee.
1298588 tn?1330318981 The effect is highly variable and in some people (usually those with low blood pressure) it can actually have an opposite effect and slow the heart, as it increases blood pressure a little. Everything that is making you more awake can provoke more anxiety. Again, what helped me a lot was a small dose of a non-selective beta blocker, which calms the sympathic nerve system, contracts blood vessels a little (preventing a racing heart when standing up) and in general slow the heart rate a bit.
Avatar f tn i was still drinking a cup of coffee when i got pg. as my pg progressed at around 6-wks when you normally start feeling nausea, i had to stop b/c caffeine was upsetting my stomach and was making me throw-up. this said, and from what i've heard, you an drink coffee in moderation and should not interfere with implantation. i'm sure same applies for soda as long as it is consumed in moderation. keep in mind though the other issues in consuming soda...
Avatar m tn I googled the question regarding its effect on blood vessels and got unclear answers such as "...caffeine constricts blood vessels to the neck and brain." While others wrote that... "...Caffeine does cause vasoconstriction in smooth muscle tissue, but only for a brief period of time before the caffeine signals a significant vasodilator effect." So what is the "final" answer? Thank you.
Avatar f tn It may just be your body has changed and now does not like caffeine or something I dunno I know I take caffeine no doz things at work and drink red bull everyday and never have an issue and even when I did get clean I took caffeine once I got past the worst of withdrawal to help fight fatigue so I dunno but everyone is different but the way u say it makes your blood pressure go up and heart race I would just say stay away from it cause that's no good Good Luck and Godspeed ABritt
Avatar f tn and can help with things down the road like headaches and constipation. 32 wks ftm and ive enjoy a coffee or tea once a day. caffeine also helps regulate your blood sugars... its just like anything with pregnancy if there is even a 1% chance it can lead to or cause concern for your pregnancy they say don't do it. every pregnant women i know has coffee.
Avatar m tn I've had similar problems - sensitivity to caffeine and now, to alcohol. I take no medications and lead a healthy lifestyle. I avoid wheat products and that helps a lot. Check this out:https://www.caffeineinformer.com/caffeine-sensitivity It could be genetic, an immune response, or related to liver enzymes. I bet it's all the crap in the food chain an environment that we didn't have decades ago.
Avatar n tn I went to see my obgyn August 29 everything was fine and i went in September 26 and they said my pressure was high and i might need to be on medication. But i go back in two weeks because my doctor thinks it was because i was nervous or anxious. So in two weeks if its still high i have to be on medication.
Avatar f tn same here, I ♥ coffee but I had recently went to the hospital for high blood pressure and as they were monitering me, they found the babys heart beat irregular, turns out caffeine makes babys heart beat irregular for a little bit, its nothing bad but thats the reason doctors say stay away from to much caffine
