codeine allergy and hydrocodone

Took an awful long time to figure that I was SENSITIVE to morphine/codeine. After operations I went nuts with nausea and ITCHING...that dang oxygen thing up my nose!! I told them FINALLY about this that I finally had to figure out on my own and got on different anesthesia. WOW. What a difference!! Allergies imply something altogether different and one CAN develop an allergy to drugs such as morphine and THAT YOU don't want happening.

The metabolism of codeine results in other opioid metabolites, including morphine, and a minor amount of hydrocodone. In fact, this is how codeine works -- by itself, codeine is ineffective. But because it is metabolized into a small amount of morphine, it is effective against pain. On my husband side there is a lot of family members including him allergic to the medicine of codeine. I want our baby to get tested for this allergy so if and when our baby does get sick i will know not to give him anything w codeine.

Correct - they contain up to 50mg of codeine. They are just as addictive as hydrocodone and are not sold in the US.

Sorry to confuse - I can take the co-codamol which is 8mg of codeine phosphate and 500mg of paracetamol (side effects managable) but the 30mg of codeine phosphate with 500mg of paracetamol causes bad side effects, similarly 30mg of straight codeine phosphate causes bad side effects. Added complication is that I also need to be able to function well enough to drive and work.

I havent taken Hydrocodone in 5 years and Ive never taken Oxycontin. The dr doesnt believe me and Im probably gonna be released because of it. I cant make him believe me. Can anyone tell me if any of the following drugs can give a false positive for Hydrocodone or Oxycontin. The following drugs are all i take, No more and no less. Fentanyl 50mcg. Tylenol3, Tylenol, Norflex, Ambien,Seroquel, Cymbalta, Ibuprofen and Naproxen. PLEASE HELP!!!!

btw, hydrocodone does not contain acetaminophen. Medications like Vicodin and Norco contain both hydrocodone and acetaminophen, but hydrocodone is itself a semi-synthetic opioid, similar to oxycodone.

There have had to have been folks out there that needed emergency surgery with an allergy to opioids and the doctors had to have had a workaround...I would think. But I doubt it was as effective as opiates for pain. They could have been kept in a medically induced coma until some of the healing from the surgery transpired. But honestly, I don't know for certain.

but that makes sense cuz i didnt really eat a breakfast before i left the house, i was always trying to eat my breakfast at work but started the symptoms before i really finished half of it. and eating sugars and crackers and such fixed it.

Ibuprofen and Tylenol. Heat with stretching and then ice before bed. Dr's can only prescribe hydro- pain meds, that you get from a pharmacy.

im a member on this site and my lil brother called me cause he was high and (because im in college he thought id know) me mixed hydrocodone (10mg) cough syrup and a tylenol 3 (30mg codeine) with a shot of vodka and i want to know if thats a dangerous mix after he did it of course ...i honestly dont know and was wondering if anyone does??

Why is it that a Doc. can call in a refill for an hydocodone or codeine script. And cannot call in one for percadan/oxycodone ?

Opiates can cause liver damage, some more than others. I wish I had better information for you. THey are both way stronger than codcamol (which is panadol and codeine) and neurofen (which is ibuprofen) Codcamol and neurofen are both avail over the counter at the chemist but you should only be able to get oxycodone or hydrocodone on prescription from a doctor.. Let me know if I have this wrong tho...

When searching for sites related to codeine withdrawal. I came across the new craze, codeine parties. People taking them recreational thought that was quite scary. Also when searching for codeine withdrawal you would get sites or pop ups selling you the bloody stuff. Same with people have a view of its prescribed it not dangerous attitide. What do you think?

I know how addictive hydrocodone is. I have taken it for years here and there I don't like it and most the time it just sits in my cabinet. I only take it when the pain gets severe. It's Sunday and my Dr never really gets back to you in a timely fashion on the weekends. I guess I'll just wait to talk to him in the morning after I see my chiropractor.

s the question. If I take codeine or hydrocodone and try to skip at least 12 hours and hopefully, a day here and there will I get as horridly hooked as I was on the oxycontin's? I can not schedule these tests as fast as needed. At least I convinced my regular doc that tramadol was not an option and I thank you all for that! Also, how long after dropping lexapro could I start taking the recommended supplements that you can't take while on an SSRI?

However his drug of choice is probably percocet (oxycodone). Codeine is not nearly as strong as oxycodone and I assume his PCP is aware of his problems with oxycodone. Indeed it would take many codeine to compare to one oxycodone. His PCP may have prescribed him only enough for several days. If his physician felt he required the drug for pain he may be cutting him some slack. I have a friend that can handle hydrocodone without a problem but he can't handle percocet.

I was told again that HC was not available and instead prescribed Dolocatil 325/15. Also a codeine product. I was told this time that he should replace the HC with the Dolocatil as a drop-in replacement and is unlikely to notice any difference -- this I am /highly/ skeptical of. I will be filling this Rx here in about an hour or so. My question is - if/when this does not work out - what should I do? He's been on HC for the better part of 20 years.

Well, tussionex is part hydrocodone which is a semi-synthetic opioid and part chlorpheniramine which is a type of antihistamine. So some people can be more sensitive to the hydrocodone (vicadin) part of the cough syrup. taking it will not make you go into withdrawal at all it just simply will not work if you have a tolerance to a stronger med because codeine is an opiate just like hydrocodone or oxycodone it is just a lot weeker of an opiate than the others ABritt
