Clopidogrel with or without omeprazole

Common Questions and Answers about Clopidogrel with or without omeprazole

plavix

Avatar m tn New data show that when clopidogrel and omeprazole are taken together, the effectiveness of clopidogrel is reduced. Patients at risk for heart attacks or strokes who use clopidogrel to prevent blood clots will not get the full effect of this medicine if they are also taking omeprazole.
690060 tn?1247841741 Patients using clopidogrel should consult with their healthcare provider if they are currently taking or considering taking omeprazole, including Prilosec OTC" but then, there's also this: http://www.theheart.org/article/1025121.
Avatar n tn There is also a band of muscle at the bottom of the oesophagus where it joins the stomach, which can weaken with age or too much acid splash back, which allows acid into the oesophagus. This isn't good because it has no protection from the acid, becomes damaged and inflamed, and very painful. Proton pump inhibitors such as omeprazole ensure your stomach produces less acid, giving help for repair of ulcers, or helping with acid reflux in the oesophagus.
Avatar n tn Sorry forgot to answer the actual question. I think Zantac is fine as long as your kidneys and liver are not diseased. However, it isn't as effective as a proton pump inhibitor. I would speak to your Doctor if heart burn is an issue because something like Omeprazole would be much more beneficial. I can also vouch that it doesn't reduce the effects of Clopidogrel or Lipitor.
Avatar n tn I have suffered from excess acid on and off over the last 10 years and been diagnosed with h.pylori twice. I have tried Omeprazole and din't like the dry itching skin so came off of it and controlled it with diet and occasional anti acid chews.
Avatar f tn I had an MI in July which was treated with angioplasty and 5 drug-eluding stents. I was prescribed 75mg Plavix and 81mg. Nothing about getting my blood levels checked was ever mentioned. I understand this is necessary if a person is on Coumidin but do not know if it is needed when on Plavix. Does anyone here know?
1210142 tn?1266077031 I do agree with this. That's why my doctor stated that It might be necessary to take PPI's for life. I do know a person who had taken Nexium for 13+ years now and he is feeling good with no side effects.
Avatar m tn My father has gone thru angiplasy few months back and he started getting Red or purple spots on the skin. He is taking deplatt and atorvasatin. I heard this can be due to deplatt(Clopidogrel). Please let me know any treatment for the same . should we discontinue Clopidogrel. Is there any alternative for this medicine in india.
Avatar f tn Ive been told that its not related but its been a few days now without change. Can Omeprazole cause this? And lastly your opinion on the treatment given to me: To simply take Omeprazole for a few months and see if it helps. I dont understand - if I still have bloating isnt the cause of the gaatritis still there? What do you think it is? Thanks.

Avatar f tn Had a heart attack, and stent put in for blockage. Need to go to an Allergy Immunologist about an asprin allergy. Need to take asprin with Plavax, or therapy won't work as per Dr. What can the allergist do for me?
Avatar n tn If a patient has drug eluding stent (DES) implant it is recommended that plavix (clopidogrel) be prescribed up to a year to help prevent blood clots with the implant. If one has A-fib there is a risk that blood clots can occur as blood may pool due to the very fast beat. Information regarding the use of the 2 anti-platelet together can present a problem and the source is MedinceNet.com.
Avatar m tn I'm 22 and a third year uni student and suffering fro a stomach issue.it began in June 2014 after having too much alcohol. I was admitted to hospital because I was throwing up cooked blood due to acid. As time went by I gradually became worse after a night out in the end I couldn't consume more than 2 units or alcohol without excessive belching, nausea and sickness. After tests for helicobacter which were inconclusive I decided to stop drinking.
Avatar n tn - warfarin may be slightly better as compared to aspirin+ clopidogrel, but in my case with no AF, does it makes sense getting into this risky business of conatantly monitoring of INR and fear of bleeding. - I have seen on net some other drugs in market which are equally good as warfarin with lower risk of bleeding. Any feedback on them. Sorry for asking so many questions. I am really worried about warfarin.

Avatar m tn Your father has occluded coronary vessels (ischemia) and apparently high blood pressure being treated with irbesartan and lasix is a diuretic. Clopidogrel is an anti-platelet medication to prevent clots. The reduced ejection fraction of 16% may be causing fluid buildup in the lungs and peripherals (arms and legs). I had an EF below 29% and was diagnosed with congested heart faiure...congestion was due to fluids in the lungs.
Avatar n tn s heart valve and a pacemaker and they were taking the medication clopidogrel for 7 years and then stopped taking it for a few months, could there be any ramifications?
Avatar n tn I experienced a numbness under my jaw and shoulder pain with a chest squeeze or kind of heaviness pulling my heart towards back. Also, a headache. It was probably for nearly ten to fifiteen minutes.Palpitations were usual on walking ! I went to two hospitals next day, and had an ECG which showed variance in ”T” wave as negative. My husband travelled back to me on the 7th feb. , by evening there was a slight irritating headache on the left side.Next day the headache grew strong and by 10.
1102792 tn?1285925260 So the Dr said he suspected a prob with my coronary arteries and that my heart was getting enough blood, he told me to avoid strenuous exercises like running but rather should continue with tennis and walking or slow jogging and to rest anytime I feel discomfort. He placed on amlodipine 10mg, ramipril, isordil (nitrate) clopidogrel 75mg and moduretic. He told me to stop atenolol for now until we are sure of what really happened.
Avatar n tn Do not stop taking Plavix (Clopidogrel) without consulting the doctor who prescribed it! Plavix inhibits platelet bloodclotting function, to prevent (life-threatening) blood clots (in i.e. cardiovascular stents). Often dental work can be done without stopping Plavix. Consult your dentist for that. When you stop taking Plavix, complete recovery of platelet function takes about 7 days after the last dose.
1534233 tn?1523388856 My doctor says the chest pains and burning sensations are probably gastric or maybe caused by anxiety. He prescribed omeprazole in July, I took 10 and saw no change although I did blame an attack of palpitations on them. I have started on Omeprazole again, for 4 days now (20 mg once a day). I see no improvement and get burning feeling on chest for long periods, its usually relieved when I lay down.
976897 tn?1379167602 I feel much better today, and the cause of my heart attack was my own fault, and I think it's important to explain why, and put certain ideas about natural healing over medication to bed once and for all. As you all probably know, my left artery was opened up in 2009, and it also had a LIMA vessel previously grafted still open too. I lost my Wife in April 2012 and I went to pieces. I stopped my Statins/Aspirin and Clopidogrel because I didn't want to go on living.
Avatar m tn those with a history of bypass surgery, a prior stroke or MI, arterial disease in two or more areas, diabetes, or high cholesterol. Clopidogrel may be a reasonable choice for these patients. Patients with a past history of MI within the prior 5 years don't seem to derive any more benefit from dual therapy. In some disease states, clotting occurs when it shouldn’t.
