Avatar n tn Either increases effects of the other by pharmacodynamic synergism. Significant - Monitor Closely. Clopidogrel and NSAIDs both inhibit platelet aggregation" Source: Medscape Reference. 482754 tn?1341791494 I no longer have to take clopidogrel and effient wasn't around for me to use. However, I do remember reading some articles on this medication. Although it has been approved for patient use, it does have one concern. If you are on this drug and have surgery such as a bypass, it tends to cause severe bleeding, which can be fatal. Clopidrogrel (plavix) has no such problem attached to it. On the plus side, it reduces other risks dramatically and outperforms clopidogrel hands down.

Avatar m tn I am currently taking plavix, 81mg aspirin AND coumadin on a daily basis. I had a stent put in in July 2008 and triple by pass in 2006. I'm 64 and had my first MI at 33. My father died of an MI at 46, my EF is under 30%. My EP (at one hospital) just suggested I eliminate the plavix while my CHF specialist (at a nearby major research university) said I would be on plavix for a "long time" (forever?).
Avatar n tn 5 years my cardiologist suggests me to change to warfarin + asprin theraphy. I am scared of warfarin due to its side effects and risks. What are my risks if I continue with my currrent asprin+clopidogrel dual anticoagulant theraphy? Shall appreciate advice or sharing your experience with these drugs or necessity of changing over from one drug to another?.
Avatar n tn Plavix/clopidogrel is mainly an anti-platelet drug (they are *usually* used artery-side, e.g., to prevent strokes or heart attacks). The other drugs mentioned are anticoagulants (which interfere with coagulant proteins such as Factor Xa -- they are usually used venous-side, e.g., preventing DVT after orthopedic surgery). Either type might be used for the in between, which is the heart: for AFib clotting/strokes. I don't know why your doc preferred to prescribe Plavix for DVT.
Avatar n tn Sorry forgot to answer the actual question. I think Zantac is fine as long as your kidneys and liver are not diseased. However, it isn't as effective as a proton pump inhibitor. I would speak to your Doctor if heart burn is an issue because something like Omeprazole would be much more beneficial. I can also vouch that it doesn't reduce the effects of Clopidogrel or Lipitor.
Avatar m tn Note that there are other medicine with almost the same effect that might give you less side effects like Clopidogrel and Ticagrelor.
Avatar f tn I had to endure it for a year and when the medication was stopped, it was like I had a new pair of lungs. ALL medications have side effects but at different severities and are often overlooked.
620923 tn?1452915648 Hi Selma, hope you're well! I'm from Canada. I'm pretty sure you've mentioned, in the past, that Canadians can call or email doctors in New York, and get professional opinions via email. Is this possible?
690060 tn?1247841741 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has new data showing that omeprazole (Prilosec/Prilosec OTC)—a medicine used to reduce stomach acid—reduces the anti-blood clotting effect of clopidogrel (Plavix) by almost half when these two medicines are taken by the same patient." "...Patients using clopidogrel should consult with their healthcare provider if they are currently taking or considering taking omeprazole, including Prilosec OTC" but then, there's also this: http://www.
Avatar m tn Which is better anticoagulnt from rivaroxaban and clopidogrel for stroke prevention. My grandmother had stroke 6 years ago and she has atrial fibrilation. So far she used clopidogrel as treatment but her new doctor perscribed medication with rivaroxaban (but it is far more expensive) ?
Avatar n tn If a patient has drug eluding stent (DES) implant it is recommended that plavix (clopidogrel) be prescribed up to a year to help prevent blood clots with the implant. If one has A-fib there is a risk that blood clots can occur as blood may pool due to the very fast beat. Information regarding the use of the 2 anti-platelet together can present a problem and the source is MedinceNet.com.

Avatar f tn Without getting into the pharmocological aspects regarding the mechanism of action of asprin resistance and the mechanixm of activity of plavix (clopidogrel), the American Academy of Cardiology recommends tests. Dr. Waksman: "I'll try to do my best because it's a controversy.
