1618533 tn?1299870566 hello, my mother(66) had 3 strokes and she had TIA 2 weeks ago. Just this June, we finally discovered the real cause of her recurrent stroke and that was her atrial fibrillation. I am really worried about her. Right now, we are already in our home, she can still walk talk and do her activities of daily living except household chores. She has mild expressive aphasia and unable to read most words. I believe that prayer can help a lot. I just experienced this during her TIA.
Avatar m tn Your father’s right side internal carotid artery is completely blocked which means he may have had symptoms of a stroke or a transient ischemic attack TIA. Some of the symptoms could be weakness, blurred vision, slurred speech. Non surgical options available are regular carotid artery checkups with tests every year. Medicines to lower cholesterol, blood thinners for decreasing stroke risk. These medicines are aspirin, clopidogrel and warfarin.
Avatar n tn My daugther has atrial fibrillation and has had 3 mini-strokes, is on 5mg coumadin , which is not working very well for her and just was in the hospital for another TIA. While at the hospital she was also on herprin the whole time, but on returning hom the problem with the coumadin storted every other day changing the dosage. We were told this is the only blood thinner she can take because she is also on dialysis and is HIV, which is under control.
Avatar m tn Last week I came home at dinner time and checked and found a really shocking email from somebody. I got really upset - more than I can remember, and got tongue tied when I started telling my wife, sort of stammering and within a couple of minutes got a really awful headache right across my forehead, and found that when I started to talk only 'gibberish' came out. I knew the words I wanted to say clearly in my mind but when i spoke they came out all wrong.

Avatar n tn If a patient has drug eluding stent (DES) implant it is recommended that plavix (clopidogrel) be prescribed up to a year to help prevent blood clots with the implant. If one has A-fib there is a risk that blood clots can occur as blood may pool due to the very fast beat. Avatar n tn After six years post MI and ef varying between 25-35%, my cardiologist now feels that I should shift from aspirin(150)+clopidogrel (75) to warfarin. Two years back he did tell me that he is double minded on whether to put me on warfarin. But this time he appears to be very sure and has insisted me to go for warfarin. His justification is "that is what literature says". I have no AF or valve problem.
Avatar m tn New data show that when clopidogrel and omeprazole are taken together, the effectiveness of clopidogrel is reduced. Patients at risk for heart attacks or strokes who use clopidogrel to prevent blood clots will not get the full effect of this medicine if they are also taking omeprazole.

Avatar m tn In the CAPRIE trial, clopidogrel (plavix) was equivalent to aspirin for patients with a recent (but not acute) MI. Some subgroups of patients with cardiovascular disease in this trial seemed to benefit more from clopidogrel than from aspirin: those with a history of bypass surgery, a prior stroke or MI, arterial disease in two or more areas, diabetes, or high cholesterol. Clopidogrel may be a reasonable choice for these patients.
Avatar m tn Evidence is available from retrospective analysis of the CPARIE trial with clopidogrel that patients who have atherosclerosis in other vascular beds, such as prior ischemic stroke or concurrent peripheral vascular disease, benefit from receiving clopidogrel over aspirin. Some cardiologists have concluded that these patients, who are at higher risk of a subsequent vascular event, would benefit from combined therapy.
Avatar n tn Warfarin (coumadin): Because of the increased risk of bleeding, the concomitant administration of Warfarin with Plavix should be undertaken with caution. (See PRECAUTIONS - General.) At high concentrations in vitro, clopidogrel inhibits P450 (C).
Avatar m tn Hello; I have got one coronary DES stent implanted since two month ago ("Endeavor RESOLUTE RX"). I am on clopidogrel, aspirin, atorvastatin, carvedilol, enalapril and pantoprazol. Fearing about scars growing inside the stent's mesh, I have read that some people recommend vitamin E for cosmetic appearance of scars; well, my question is: Could vitamin E be of some help for preventing "in-stent restenosis"? Is it worth trying? Thanks!
976897 tn?1379167602 I feel much better today, and the cause of my heart attack was my own fault, and I think it's important to explain why, and put certain ideas about natural healing over medication to bed once and for all. As you all probably know, my left artery was opened up in 2009, and it also had a LIMA vessel previously grafted still open too. I lost my Wife in April 2012 and I went to pieces. I stopped my Statins/Aspirin and Clopidogrel because I didn't want to go on living.
