Clopidogrel surgery

Common Questions and Answers about Clopidogrel surgery

plavix

Avatar f tn ve eight stents and always was given a handful of Clopidogrel (Plavix) during the prep time before the surgery, and a couple of aspirins. They want the blood as thin as possible during the procedure to reduce the risk of stroke or arterial obstructions, obviously. I'd not be concerned and take the medication as asked. Best wishes with the procedure, keep us informed.
Avatar n tn I was taken off Clopidogrel after my bypass surgery because my cholesterol levels were perfect. Soon after, my bypass veins failed totally. I'm taking it now as well as aspirin. Just throwing this out as something to talk to your doctor about.
Avatar f tn ve had arthralgia ,oseaophigitis, rashes and chest pain .
Avatar m tn those with a history of bypass surgery, a prior stroke or MI, arterial disease in two or more areas, diabetes, or high cholesterol. Clopidogrel may be a reasonable choice for these patients. Patients with a past history of MI within the prior 5 years don't seem to derive any more benefit from dual therapy. In some disease states, clotting occurs when it shouldn’t.
Avatar m tn In addition, subgroup analysis from CAPRIE has documented that patients who have undergone coronary artery bypass surgery receive particular benefit from continuing combined antiplatelet therapy with clopidogrel and aspirin. Thus the durations of clopidogrel therapy combined with aspirin that may be used range from one month to 3 months to 9 months to one year to life-long therapy!
Avatar n tn The prolonged use of clopidogrel (Plavix) greatly reduces the risk of late thrombosis in DES, but clopidogrel itself poses problems. Aside from the expense and the risk of bleeding posed by the long-term use of this drug, using clopidogrel (because of the pronounced bleeding tendency it causes) essentially precludes any invasive medical procedures whatsoever.
Avatar m tn His been put on the following medication (1) tad lasix 20 mg od (2) clopidogrel 1 tad od (3) atorvastatin 40mg nocte. Well would like an advice on the operation wehter will it help him with such a poor EF or any other medication to improve his contactility before going for surgery.
690060 tn?1247841741 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has new data showing that omeprazole (Prilosec/Prilosec OTC)—a medicine used to reduce stomach acid—reduces the anti-blood clotting effect of clopidogrel (Plavix) by almost half when these two medicines are taken by the same patient." "...Patients using clopidogrel should consult with their healthcare provider if they are currently taking or considering taking omeprazole, including Prilosec OTC" but then, there's also this: http://www.
Avatar m tn Which is better anticoagulnt from rivaroxaban and clopidogrel for stroke prevention. My grandmother had stroke 6 years ago and she has atrial fibrilation. So far she used clopidogrel as treatment but her new doctor perscribed medication with rivaroxaban (but it is far more expensive) ?
Avatar n tn If a patient has drug eluding stent (DES) implant it is recommended that plavix (clopidogrel) be prescribed up to a year to help prevent blood clots with the implant. If one has A-fib there is a risk that blood clots can occur as blood may pool due to the very fast beat. Information regarding the use of the 2 anti-platelet together can present a problem and the source is MedinceNet.com.
Avatar n tn s heart valve and a pacemaker and they were taking the medication clopidogrel for 7 years and then stopped taking it for a few months, could there be any ramifications?
Avatar n tn My cardio prescribed Deplatt Cv (Ecosprin 75 mg,Atorvostatin 10 mg, and clopidogrel 75 mg and I am taking since May this year. Actually i was diagnosed with Transient Ischemea in the year 1977. I have taken intially for about 35 years ASA 50 (Acityle saclyilic acid) and then from 2005 to 2017 april , Ecosprin AV 75 mg. 482754 tn?1341791494 I no longer have to take clopidogrel and effient wasn't around for me to use. However, I do remember reading some articles on this medication. Although it has been approved for patient use, it does have one concern. If you are on this drug and have surgery such as a bypass, it tends to cause severe bleeding, which can be fatal. Clopidrogrel (plavix) has no such problem attached to it. On the plus side, it reduces other risks dramatically and outperforms clopidogrel hands down.
Avatar m tn I have had angioplasty done 5 months ago and now I am on heart related medicines Nitroglycerin, Clopidogrel+Ecosporin and Atorvastatin. I wear artificial denture. Last month I had surgery for cataract in my eye. My evacuation system is working fine, although sometimes I miss a day or two. I do not take any medication for this and the bowl movement becomes regular on its own. I want to know the reason for white coating on my tongue and the crack in it.
Avatar f tn Without getting into the pharmocological aspects regarding the mechanism of action of asprin resistance and the mechanixm of activity of plavix (clopidogrel), the American Academy of Cardiology recommends tests. Dr. Waksman: "I'll try to do my best because it's a controversy.
Avatar m tn I was prescribed Effient which seemed to make my heart race sonI stopped it in Oct. I had knee surgery and found out in process that withou Effient I am at risk for a clot and heart attack. I am ready to go back on it but I want my knee surgery to heal. Will the Effient slow the healing process on the knee?
Avatar n tn After six years post MI and ef varying between 25-35%, my cardiologist now feels that I should shift from aspirin(150)+clopidogrel (75) to warfarin. Two years back he did tell me that he is double minded on whether to put me on warfarin. But this time he appears to be very sure and has insisted me to go for warfarin. His justification is "that is what literature says". I have no AF or valve problem.
Avatar m tn New data show that when clopidogrel and omeprazole are taken together, the effectiveness of clopidogrel is reduced. Patients at risk for heart attacks or strokes who use clopidogrel to prevent blood clots will not get the full effect of this medicine if they are also taking omeprazole.
Avatar f tn BMS are recommended for low-risk restenosis patients, those in need for surgery in the near future who cannot take clopidogrel for an extended period of time, incompliant patients, and those at high risk for thrombotic complication. 3. The combination of (clopidogrel) Plavix and aspirin is very effective in preventing stent thrombosis and should be continued for at least one year after DES, though the proper duration (indefinitely?) is still to be determined by more and longer experience.
Avatar m tn The risks of having another stroke without a surgery against risk of having serious problems from the surgery itself. Carotid angioplasty and stenting and carotid endarterectomy are the two options. Take care.
Avatar n tn Plavix/clopidogrel is mainly an anti-platelet drug (they are *usually* used artery-side, e.g., to prevent strokes or heart attacks). The other drugs mentioned are anticoagulants (which interfere with coagulant proteins such as Factor Xa -- they are usually used venous-side, e.g., preventing DVT after orthopedic surgery). Either type might be used for the in between, which is the heart: for AFib clotting/strokes. I don't know why your doc preferred to prescribe Plavix for DVT.
Avatar f tn s like if I want some Clopidogrel (another form of anti platelet med) I could ask for either Clopidogrel or Plavix, Plavix is the brand name the drug company trades the medication under.
Avatar m tn My father has gone thru angiplasy few months back and he started getting Red or purple spots on the skin. He is taking deplatt and atorvasatin. Avatar n tn Ive only heard of proton pump inhibitors reducing the effect of Clopidogrel (plavix) but only by a tiny amount. I do have to question though if Zantac is a proton pump inhibitor anyway? Isn't it just a H2 receptor blocker?
