690060 tn?1247841741 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has new data showing that omeprazole (Prilosec/Prilosec OTC)—a medicine used to reduce stomach acid—reduces the anti-blood clotting effect of clopidogrel (Plavix) by almost half when these two medicines are taken by the same patient." "...Patients using clopidogrel should consult with their healthcare provider if they are currently taking or considering taking omeprazole, including Prilosec OTC" but then, there's also this: http://www.
Avatar m tn Which is better anticoagulnt from rivaroxaban and clopidogrel for stroke prevention. My grandmother had stroke 6 years ago and she has atrial fibrilation. So far she used clopidogrel as treatment but her new doctor perscribed medication with rivaroxaban (but it is far more expensive) ?
Avatar n tn If a patient has drug eluding stent (DES) implant it is recommended that plavix (clopidogrel) be prescribed up to a year to help prevent blood clots with the implant. If one has A-fib there is a risk that blood clots can occur as blood may pool due to the very fast beat. Information regarding the use of the 2 anti-platelet together can present a problem and the source is MedinceNet.com.
Avatar n tn s heart valve and a pacemaker and they were taking the medication clopidogrel for 7 years and then stopped taking it for a few months, could there be any ramifications?
Avatar f tn Have you had antibody testing, c-peptide and insulin levels testing? This would be interesting to know, as possibly you are type 1 not type 2. For insulin, bottom line is, you need to normalize blood sugars. When this cannot be done with oral meds and diet (seriously look into strict low carb eating if you are not already) and exercise (exercise decreases insulin resistance), and keeping weight on target, then it is time to add insulin.
Avatar n tn After six years post MI and ef varying between 25-35%, my cardiologist now feels that I should shift from aspirin(150)+clopidogrel (75) to warfarin. Two years back he did tell me that he is double minded on whether to put me on warfarin. But this time he appears to be very sure and has insisted me to go for warfarin. His justification is "that is what literature says". I have no AF or valve problem.
Avatar m tn New data show that when clopidogrel and omeprazole are taken together, the effectiveness of clopidogrel is reduced. Patients at risk for heart attacks or strokes who use clopidogrel to prevent blood clots will not get the full effect of this medicine if they are also taking omeprazole.
Avatar f tn s like if I want some Clopidogrel (another form of anti platelet med) I could ask for either Clopidogrel or Plavix, Plavix is the brand name the drug company trades the medication under.
Avatar m tn My father has gone thru angiplasy few months back and he started getting Red or purple spots on the skin. He is taking deplatt and atorvasatin. Avatar n tn Ive only heard of proton pump inhibitors reducing the effect of Clopidogrel (plavix) but only by a tiny amount. I do have to question though if Zantac is a proton pump inhibitor anyway? Isn't it just a H2 receptor blocker?
Avatar f tn ve had arthralgia ,oseaophigitis, rashes and chest pain .
Avatar m tn In the CAPRIE trial, clopidogrel (plavix) was equivalent to aspirin for patients with a recent (but not acute) MI. Some subgroups of patients with cardiovascular disease in this trial seemed to benefit more from clopidogrel than from aspirin: those with a history of bypass surgery, a prior stroke or MI, arterial disease in two or more areas, diabetes, or high cholesterol. Clopidogrel may be a reasonable choice for these patients.
Avatar m tn Evidence is available from retrospective analysis of the CPARIE trial with clopidogrel that patients who have atherosclerosis in other vascular beds, such as prior ischemic stroke or concurrent peripheral vascular disease, benefit from receiving clopidogrel over aspirin. Some cardiologists have concluded that these patients, who are at higher risk of a subsequent vascular event, would benefit from combined therapy.
Avatar n tn Warfarin (coumadin): Because of the increased risk of bleeding, the concomitant administration of Warfarin with Plavix should be undertaken with caution. (See PRECAUTIONS - General.) At high concentrations in vitro, clopidogrel inhibits P450 (C).
Avatar m tn Hello; I have got one coronary DES stent implanted since two month ago ("Endeavor RESOLUTE RX"). I am on clopidogrel, aspirin, atorvastatin, carvedilol, enalapril and pantoprazol. Fearing about scars growing inside the stent's mesh, I have read that some people recommend vitamin E for cosmetic appearance of scars; well, my question is: Could vitamin E be of some help for preventing "in-stent restenosis"? Is it worth trying? Thanks!
Avatar f tn A bit more information would be helpful to try to be helpful to you. Are you working with a doctor and has insulin resistance been confirmed through testing? Have you been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes? There are things you can start with your doctors approval to help that mainly include lifestyle changes of diet and exercise, losing weight and in particular belly fat, etc. https://www.webmd.com/diabetes/insulin-resistance-syndrome#1 Are you over weight at all?
1033523 tn?1258035082 My gynocologist just diagnosised me with insulin resistance based on some symptoms I was having and is sending me to a endocrinologist. Since I am new to this I had a question. My blood sugar has always come back normal, but now that I have this am I going to have to test daily or is this something that depends on your results? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but this is all new to me. So I have some learning to do.
Avatar f tn He diagnosed me as thyroid resistance. I have tried everything. I have put my stuff on the thyroid boards on facebook, looking for any help and any answer. I understand they usually treat this with high levels of t4 and t3 and usually a beta blocker. I really need some help. I dont know if you can steer me in the right direction. I feel awful and to get thru everyday is really hard. I am finding it harder and harder to wake up when I fall asleep.
