Clopidogrel medication

Common Questions and Answers about Clopidogrel medication

plavix

Avatar f tn As far as I am aware, Clopidogrel bisulfate is a medication to inhibit clotting in the blood to lower the risk of heart attacks/strokes. I don't think this medication is aimed at lowering blood pressure. There is concern raised by some cardiologists that they have seen patients forming clots quickly when taken off this drug, usually if taken for less than 2-3 years. I would report this quickly just in case the removal of plavix is causing restenosis.
Avatar m tn Which is better anticoagulnt from rivaroxaban and clopidogrel for stroke prevention. My grandmother had stroke 6 years ago and she has atrial fibrilation. So far she used clopidogrel as treatment but her new doctor perscribed medication with rivaroxaban (but it is far more expensive) ?
Avatar n tn s heart valve and a pacemaker and they were taking the medication clopidogrel for 7 years and then stopped taking it for a few months, could there be any ramifications?
Avatar n tn There are certain situations where both of these medications can be taken at the same time. Each medication has its own specific indications. For example, a patient who has atrial fibrillation and also a recently placed coronary stent, would have good reasons to be on both warfarin and plavix.
Avatar m tn My father has gone thru angiplasy few months back and he started getting Red or purple spots on the skin. He is taking deplatt and atorvasatin. I heard this can be due to deplatt(Clopidogrel). Please let me know any treatment for the same . should we discontinue Clopidogrel. Is there any alternative for this medicine in india.
Avatar f tn s like if I want some Clopidogrel (another form of anti platelet med) I could ask for either Clopidogrel or Plavix, Plavix is the brand name the drug company trades the medication under.
Avatar n tn t take plavix in the morning and in the evening take lopressor 50mg and lipitor 80mg. I had been at least 4 hours since i took these two medication lopressor and lipitor. Is it ok to take zantac 150mg for heart burn .
Avatar n tn I was told there is no real evidence it reacts with clopidogrel (plavix) and if it does, the effect is tiny. My INR didn't change on this medication for 2 years. It would seem Aspirin is the culprit for causing my stomach issues, so I've been taken off aspirin and put back onto plavix for life.
Avatar m tn FDA is alerting the public to new safety information concerning an interaction between clopidogrel (Plavix), an anti-clotting medication, and omeprazole (Prilosec/Prilosec OTC), a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to reduce stomach acid. New data show that when clopidogrel and omeprazole are taken together, the effectiveness of clopidogrel is reduced.
Avatar n tn My cardiologist is pressing me to shift from asprin+clopidogrel to warfarin. He says I have chances of getting a clot in damaged section of heart (anterior) and warfarin is more effective. For last two yesrs I am on asprin+clopidogrel. My EF is 35% due to MI in 2007. Anyone who has experience and/or information on above, please advise.
Avatar n tn hi i had a stent done 2months ago .how long do one take this medication for.
Avatar f tn ve had arthralgia ,oseaophigitis, rashes and chest pain .
976897 tn?1379167602 I feel much better today, and the cause of my heart attack was my own fault, and I think it's important to explain why, and put certain ideas about natural healing over medication to bed once and for all. As you all probably know, my left artery was opened up in 2009, and it also had a LIMA vessel previously grafted still open too. I lost my Wife in April 2012 and I went to pieces. I stopped my Statins/Aspirin and Clopidogrel because I didn't want to go on living.
Avatar m tn In the CAPRIE trial, clopidogrel (plavix) was equivalent to aspirin for patients with a recent (but not acute) MI. Some subgroups of patients with cardiovascular disease in this trial seemed to benefit more from clopidogrel than from aspirin: those with a history of bypass surgery, a prior stroke or MI, arterial disease in two or more areas, diabetes, or high cholesterol. Clopidogrel may be a reasonable choice for these patients.
Avatar m tn It was once thought that there was no evidence in benefits after one year, but evidence is now proving the opposite. Once the medication is stopped, many patients start to develop blockages in the stents. The trend is fast tracking towards "for life". I was initially told 1 year to 18 months, now I've been told plavix is for life.
Avatar m tn Your father has occluded coronary vessels (ischemia) and apparently high blood pressure being treated with irbesartan and lasix is a diuretic. Clopidogrel is an anti-platelet medication to prevent clots. The reduced ejection fraction of 16% may be causing fluid buildup in the lungs and peripherals (arms and legs). I had an EF below 29% and was diagnosed with congested heart faiure...congestion was due to fluids in the lungs.
Avatar f tn I suffered a mild stroke (blood clot) Consultant prescribed Clopidogrel but cannot tolerate side effects. Then consultant prescribed Dipyridamole. I cannot tolerate this either. Severe headache, vomiting and diarrhoea. Has anybody got a different medication they are on?
Avatar m tn Clopidogrel is a short term medication, there is no evidence supporting benefits after a period of one year. Your big problem is the cigarettes, even one a day is no good for your arteries. I know it's hard, but you need to stop smoking and this is your wake up call. You will probably see a good improvement in blood pressure and oxygen levels when you stop, as well as feeling like you have more energy. If you have a lot of stress in your life, find ways to either manage it or rid it.
1020296 tn?1251475359 what dosage is the beta blocker? It looks as though there could be an imbalance of the medication maybe. What is the dosage of the blood pressure medication (ramipril)?
Avatar n tn after a stent inplant how long must clopidogrel-winthrop be taken my heart attack was caused by cholestral which now a 3
Avatar n tn The doctor should have determined PT was not below the 10 second interval after a week or so when the blood clotting time returns the system free of questionable medication. A blood test every day may be excessive, but no more than 10 days seems reasonable. The medical community does not endorse a necessity to wean off a blood thinner. The rationale may be there is a gradual withdrawl ipsofacto (waiting for the opportunity to use that word :)...but there are exceptions.
690060 tn?1247841741 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has new data showing that omeprazole (Prilosec/Prilosec OTC)—a medicine used to reduce stomach acid—reduces the anti-blood clotting effect of clopidogrel (Plavix) by almost half when these two medicines are taken by the same patient." "...Patients using clopidogrel should consult with their healthcare provider if they are currently taking or considering taking omeprazole, including Prilosec OTC" but then, there's also this: http://www.
Avatar f tn There is consensus with medical community to continue anti-platelet medication after a heart attack, implantation of stents and CABG. The good doctor from expert forum states Plavix is unnecessary and aspirin is sufficient. After a stent implant my cardiologist put me on Plavix and aspirin for a year...then dropped Plavix and continued with aspirin. There is some evidence that Plavix helps prevent restenosis with a drug eluding stent up to about a year.
