plavix

Avatar f tn ve eight stents and always was given a handful of Clopidogrel (Plavix) during the prep time before the surgery, and a couple of aspirins. They want the blood as thin as possible during the procedure to reduce the risk of stroke or arterial obstructions, obviously. I'd not be concerned and take the medication as asked. Best wishes with the procedure, keep us informed.
Avatar n tn INR) may be ordered to assess the degree of blood-thinning when warfarin and clopidogrel are used together. The same enzyme also is responsible for the metabolism of phenytoin (Dilantin), tamoxifen (Nolvadex), tolbutamide (Orinase), torsemide (Demadex), and fluvastatin (Lescol). Although important interactions between clopidogrel and these drugs are unlikely, interactions should be looked for carefully.
Avatar n tn s heart valve and a pacemaker and they were taking the medication clopidogrel for 7 years and then stopped taking it for a few months, could there be any ramifications?

Avatar f tn I was prescribed 75mg Plavix and 81mg. Nothing about getting my blood levels checked was ever mentioned. I understand this is necessary if a person is on Coumidin but do not know if it is needed when on Plavix. Does anyone here know?
690060 tn?1247841741 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has new data showing that omeprazole (Prilosec/Prilosec OTC)—a medicine used to reduce stomach acid—reduces the anti-blood clotting effect of clopidogrel (Plavix) by almost half when these two medicines are taken by the same patient." "...Patients using clopidogrel should consult with their healthcare provider if they are currently taking or considering taking omeprazole, including Prilosec OTC" but then, there's also this: http://www.
Avatar m tn Patients at risk for heart attacks or strokes who use clopidogrel to prevent blood clots will not get the full effect of this medicine if they are also taking omeprazole. The updated label for clopidogrel will contain details of new studies submitted by Sanofi-Aventis and Bristol-Myers Squibb, the manufacturer of Plavix (clopidogrel) Other drugs that should be avoided in combination with clopidogrel because they may have a similar interaction include: esomeprazole (Nexium).
Avatar f tn When the heart rate increases that is an indication the body system is demanding more blood/oxygen and light headed may be due to a drop of blood pressure. The etiology can be the fast heart rate has caused low blood pressure. With a fast heart rate pumping ventricles do not have enough time to fill sufficiently with blood before the each contraction, and the cardiac output decreases in spite of the faster heart rate.
Avatar n tn In between, In between they had done the ECG with same results, as before.I was taken for ECHO and diagnosed as “Diastolic Dysfunction”. Stress Test was adviced and thus found that everything was okay????? by the cardiologist !! Anyway, he had prescribed the foll. Med. 1)COVERSYLY(PERIDOPRIL) 2)LIPITOR 40MG 3)PEVODEX (CLOPIDOGREL) 4) ASPIRIN 81MG. Since one and a half month of consumption of these drugs , I found myself better.
Avatar m tn If you have been diagnosed with a Pulmonary Embolism (blood clot to the lung), Deep Vein Thrombosis (blood clot in the legs), certain cardiac disorders (artificial valves or arrhythmia’s) or clotting disorders, your physician may prescribe a regimen of Coumadin as therapy. 1.
Avatar n tn My cardiologist is pressing me to shift from asprin+clopidogrel to warfarin. He says I have chances of getting a clot in damaged section of heart (anterior) and warfarin is more effective. For last two yesrs I am on asprin+clopidogrel. My EF is 35% due to MI in 2007. Anyone who has experience and/or information on above, please advise.
Avatar m tn This happens when the heart does not pump out the a large percentage of blood received from the lungs so blood backs up in the lungs and fluids leak into the tissues (medically termed edema). Kidneys may be a concomitant disorder that adds to the fluid retension, Your father may have an enlarged left ventricle (dilated) that will reduce the chamber's contractility.
Avatar m tn I was asked to take the drug not only to keep clots from forming in my stents, but also to maximize blood flow in what are called collateral arteries, little ones that develop to help supply damaged areas of the heart. I recently had bypass surgery that was extremely successful, and have been taken off Plavix as I have no angina symptoms at all. Plavix is prescribed for a variety of reasons. Best wishes, keep us informed.
Avatar m tn Which is better anticoagulnt from rivaroxaban and clopidogrel for stroke prevention. My grandmother had stroke 6 years ago and she has atrial fibrilation. So far she used clopidogrel as treatment but her new doctor perscribed medication with rivaroxaban (but it is far more expensive) ?
Avatar n tn While at the hospital she was also on herprin the whole time, but on returning hom the problem with the coumadin storted every other day changing the dosage. We were told this is the only blood thinner she can take because she is also on dialysis and is HIV, which is under control. I am afraid thtese clots are going to kill her. What else can be done.
1102792 tn?1285925260 I still think it has to do with my lungs and not heart. Dr recommended echo, complete blood test and chest xray which I will do next week. Meanwhile, clopidogrel seemed to give me severe chest pain. When I called Dr hdr he was surprised and told me to get low dose aspirin. What is really happening, I still experience slight difficulty breathing but not always, have decided to abort exercise till I'm sure of what's going on. For now I'm going abt my biz as usual.
Avatar n tn My cardio prescribed Deplatt Cv (Ecosprin 75 mg,Atorvostatin 10 mg, and clopidogrel 75 mg and I am taking since May this year. Avatar m tn I agree with Kenkeith. My husband only had to take his for one year after stenting. I've also never heard of a stent collapsing if not on the Plavix, it's used to prevent blood clots after stenting which has nothing to do with the stent collapsing.
Avatar f tn If you’ve already had a heart attack or stroke or are resistant to the beneficial effects of aspirin, your doctor may suggest supplementary aspirin therapy with another clot-preventing drug, such as clopidogrel (Plavix). Clopidogrel may even be suggested as an alternative drug therapy, particularly if you’re allergic to aspirin or can’t tolerate its side effects." Maybe someone will be able to add a thought or 2. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar f tn To make this work as a routine he now has to continue with the blood thinner CLOPIDOGREL along with his usual Aspirin daily. Also a daily walking for one hour. I am so grateful to the Doctor who made it possible for my husband to get relief from his Angina. My question to the people who are on the same boat..... Do you get an awful bruising easily? Some bruising is common I heard but my worries are regarding cerebral haemorrhage.
Avatar f tn He has been taking a med with clopidogrel and aspirin since then. He has had multiple mild strokes. The doctor has warned that another stroke will be very dangerous. Recently he has had multiple tooth decay. A dental procedure to take them off needs to be done. He is on painkillers now which is okay to manage the pain for the time being but the procedure needs to be done. The doctors are asking him to stop the bloodthinners for at least a week three days pre op and four days post op.
Avatar f tn Coumadin works more on the deep thrombus blood clots. Is your husband getting his blood drawn every month while on the Coumadin? Doctor's usually watch their patients closely and ordered a blood draw every three weeks to a month when on Coumadin. I know from our family history that it is better to be taking these medications than go up against a blood clot that can cause heart attack and strokes.
976897 tn?1379167602 I feel much better today, and the cause of my heart attack was my own fault, and I think it's important to explain why, and put certain ideas about natural healing over medication to bed once and for all. As you all probably know, my left artery was opened up in 2009, and it also had a LIMA vessel previously grafted still open too. I lost my Wife in April 2012 and I went to pieces. I stopped my Statins/Aspirin and Clopidogrel because I didn't want to go on living.
Avatar m tn The lesion morphology was type B2 with moderate thrombus in it. Doctors advised Medical Treatment and prescribed blood thinners (Asprin and Clopidogrel) and also advised CBC platelets in every 3 months. Kindly guide me the DOsandDOn'ts.
