Clopidogrel and statins

Common Questions and Answers about Clopidogrel and statins

plavix

Avatar f tn ve eight stents and always was given a handful of Clopidogrel (Plavix) during the prep time before the surgery, and a couple of aspirins. They want the blood as thin as possible during the procedure to reduce the risk of stroke or arterial obstructions, obviously. I'd not be concerned and take the medication as asked. Best wishes with the procedure, keep us informed.
Avatar f tn Hi Everyone, I really hope someone can help me out here. I had a mild heart attack in February 2012 and had to have a stent inserted. Since then I've felt like a woman of 102, I work full time however once I get home in the evening my whole body seems to seize and I have to shuffle around as all my joints and muscles ache. In addition, I've developed Carpel tunnel and also Labrynthitis since having my heart attack!
Avatar f tn Well, your arteries are now in good shape in so much that there is a good blood flow. You are on a beta blocker, statins, and Imdur which is a nitrate to keep the arteries open. It's good to see you are on CoQ10, this has proved to give some amazing results across Europe. I am surprised that after stenting you are not on Plavix (Clopidogrel) ? or Aspirin ? I went through a two year period where I seemed to form blockage after blockage, even though my cholesterol was low.
Avatar n tn The best treatment for soft plaque buildup is by a healthy diet, exercise, etc. And for some individuals that is not enough, and there may be a link to genetics. Then there are individuals that smoke, drink poor diet, etc. and don't seem to have a problem?! Yes, CT scan 128 slice angiogram does provide a score that indicates the degree of soft plaque within each coronary artery and the total score.
Avatar m tn I would just keep to the medications prescribed and eat a healthy diet. The Clopidogrel is important for the Stent and the drug coating on the stent will help to inhibit the formation of scar tissue.
Avatar m tn I am currently taking plavix, 81mg aspirin AND coumadin on a daily basis. I had a stent put in in July 2008 and triple by pass in 2006. I'm 64 and had my first MI at 33. My father died of an MI at 46, my EF is under 30%. My EP (at one hospital) just suggested I eliminate the plavix while my CHF specialist (at a nearby major research university) said I would be on plavix for a "long time" (forever?).
Avatar n tn I have been on Coumadin for 18 years due to Lupus Anticoagulant (Antiphospholipid Syndrome) and several DVTs. In 2005 had MI with occlusion of the LAD artery and had drug stent inserted and I am still on plavix. My doc has debated when to take me off the Plavix safely....what are the recent studies about this dilemma? thanks so much!
Avatar n tn after a stent inplant how long must clopidogrel-winthrop be taken my heart attack was caused by cholestral which now a 3
Avatar n tn I have a closing carotid artery being treated by statins Crestor 10mg but I find the muscular pain associated with this and other statins unbearable. If I had the operation, which I will have to pay for, what am I buying? Time, a future without statins, or just more of the same¿?
Avatar m tn [12, 76, 78–84] Indeed, in both animal and human models, statins significantly lowered portal hypertension pressure and did not cause any untoward hemodynamic effects, thus improving hepatic perfusion. Moreover, when combined with nonselective beta blockers, the effects of statins were additive.[85, 86] The role of statins in preventing angiogenesis and inducing apoptosis has also been studied recently, perhaps presenting an opportunity for reducing the development of hepatocellular carcinoma.
690060 tn?1247841741 I tried to copy and paste the second article you referred ot "Cardiologists shocked by a new FDA alert on clopidogral-ppi interaction," but was unable to access it. Could you tell us what it says? (Thanks.
Avatar m tn Which is better anticoagulnt from rivaroxaban and clopidogrel for stroke prevention. My grandmother had stroke 6 years ago and she has atrial fibrilation. So far she used clopidogrel as treatment but her new doctor perscribed medication with rivaroxaban (but it is far more expensive) ?
Avatar n tn The purpose of ZEST-LATE (Evaluation of the Long-term Safety After Zotarolimus-Eluting Stent, Sirolimus-Eluting Stent, or PacliTaxel-Eluting Stent Implantation for Coronary Lesions - Late Coronary Arterial Thrombotic Events) trial is to assess the relationship between long-term clopidogrel use beyond 1 year and long-term rates of death or MI after DES implantation and to estimate the duration of dual antiplatelet therapy for preventing the late thrombotic events.
Avatar n tn To date there have been no reports of an important interaction in humans between warfarin and clopidogrel. Nonetheless, because warfarin increases the risk of bleeding, blood tests to measure the degree to which the blood is anti-coagulated or thinned (prothrombin time; INR) may be ordered to assess the degree of blood-thinning when warfarin and clopidogrel are used together.
Avatar n tn s heart valve and a pacemaker and they were taking the medication clopidogrel for 7 years and then stopped taking it for a few months, could there be any ramifications?
Avatar n tn Well before any decision is made for something like Warfarin, you should have your INR (clotting factor) tested. An INR of 1 is how long normal blood takes to clot. An INR of 2 means it take twice as long and so it goes on. Aspirin and Clopidogrel (plavix) I believe attack the clotting mechanisms in different ways. Personally I don't think they know the long term outcomes.
Avatar m tn New data show that when clopidogrel and omeprazole are taken together, the effectiveness of clopidogrel is reduced. Patients at risk for heart attacks or strokes who use clopidogrel to prevent blood clots will not get the full effect of this medicine if they are also taking omeprazole.
1806721 tn?1554333407 It tries not to alarm anyone, puts a bizarre spin on the risks and benefits of statins, and suggests that you “be sure to talk to your doctor,” (the same person who has been poisoning you). The question is, how can the “benefit” of a drug that causes a disease known to drastically increase the risk of heart disease be good for long-term heart disease prevention?" Excerpt from WebMD "New Warnings on Cholesterol-Lowering Statins": Feb.
Avatar m tn Hepatitis C patients with liver cirrhosis were significantly less likely to progress to decompensated disease and less likely to die if they used statins to control blood cholesterol, according to an analysis of U.S. veterans presented at the Digestive Disease Week meeting this week in Washington, DC, and at the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) 50th International Liver Congress last month in Vienna.
Avatar m tn However I have also suffered from bad muscle spasms in my legs in the evening and at night. I decided to stop the statins and the spasms have gone immediately thank goodness ! I will never take this statin again but I know I have to still control my cholesterol. Does anyone know of a statin that will not give me leg spasms ?
Avatar f tn My uncle refuses to take statins claiming that they could hurt his liver. Is there some way to lower cholesterol and triglycerides and clear clogged arteries naturally without statins? Is my uncle at a high risk of developing a heart related condition? Can statins even help if the arteries are already clogged? Thank you in advance.
Avatar f tn My problem is that i get these times that either i go to sleep and the doctors not been able to wake me up the next morn and im unresponsive to pain and verbal stimuli ie scoring gcs of 3.
