Avatar f tn s like if I want some Clopidogrel (another form of anti platelet med) I could ask for either Clopidogrel or Plavix, Plavix is the brand name the drug company trades the medication under.
Avatar n tn I'm due dental work in a few weeks time and need to know how long I need to stop Clopedogrel before hand?.
Avatar n tn To date there have been no reports of an important interaction in humans between warfarin and clopidogrel. Nonetheless, because warfarin increases the risk of bleeding, blood tests to measure the degree to which the blood is anti-coagulated or thinned (prothrombin time; INR) may be ordered to assess the degree of blood-thinning when warfarin and clopidogrel are used together.
Avatar m tn Your father has occluded coronary vessels (ischemia) and apparently high blood pressure being treated with irbesartan and lasix is a diuretic. Clopidogrel is an anti-platelet medication to prevent clots. The reduced ejection fraction of 16% may be causing fluid buildup in the lungs and peripherals (arms and legs). I had an EF below 29% and was diagnosed with congested heart faiure...congestion was due to fluids in the lungs.
Avatar n tn In one of the first, and largest, studies of its kind, Kaiser Permanente and Massachusetts General Hospital researchers set out the risks and benefits of warfarin".
Avatar n tn My platelet count is 55but RBC and wbc appear normal . I had a bone marrow biopsy last week and get results tomorrow . Will post what they tell Tomoz . 27.9.
Avatar n tn During neurosurgical and ophthamologic procedures some authorities recommend that the platelet count be maintained between 70,000 and 100,000/mL. I assume platelet count and coagulation studies was performed prior to the transfusion to guide subsequent therapy. During surgery on patients with quantitative or qualitative platelet defects, the adequacy of hemostasis in patients should be evaluated by the assessment of microvascular bleeding.
Avatar m tn I'm on week 11 - Peg interferon and riba for geno type 2 (24 week course of tx) As some of you may know I have had some bad luck with my heart. Two weeks ago I was aware of alarming shortness of breath and weakness.
1346447 tn?1327862572 ClopivasAP150 is a combination of anti-platelet drug clopidogrel and blood thinner aspirin. If there is an internal bleed, and this drug is continued, then it can worsen the bleed. Depending on the location of the bleed, an increased bleed can become life threatening. Please consult your doctor regarding this. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar f tn There is consensus with medical community to continue anti-platelet medication after a heart attack, implantation of stents and CABG. The good doctor from expert forum states Plavix is unnecessary and aspirin is sufficient. After a stent implant my cardiologist put me on Plavix and aspirin for a year...then dropped Plavix and continued with aspirin. There is some evidence that Plavix helps prevent restenosis with a drug eluding stent up to about a year.
Avatar f tn I did with my first pregnancy. I was told to see a second doctor to monitor my platelet count.Towards the end of my pregnancy I was seeing 2 different doctors every other week or so. I ate lots vitamin K found in green vegetables and steak in hopes of increasing my count. My count stayed low but did not get lower. But basically low platelet count means that your blood will not clot properly to stop bleeding.
Avatar n tn since the doctor told me no medicine could help to boost it up and it is not low enough to receive a transfusion of platelets, I am very concerned about this, any suggestion is greatly appreciated. This discussion is related to Platelets - Continued.
Avatar n tn The former is usually more catastrophic and results in an acute heart attack, and more often the result of noncompliance with taking certain medications (i.e.
Avatar f tn If my blood count drops and I do not want blood transfusion what are my choices. The nurse never sent me to get my blood check. Going tomorrow.
482754 tn?1341791494 I no longer have to take clopidogrel and effient wasn't around for me to use. However, I do remember reading some articles on this medication. Although it has been approved for patient use, it does have one concern. If you are on this drug and have surgery such as a bypass, it tends to cause severe bleeding, which can be fatal. Clopidrogrel (plavix) has no such problem attached to it. On the plus side, it reduces other risks dramatically and outperforms clopidogrel hands down.

250701 tn?1320974765 Cirrhotics usually start treatment with less then 100,000 platelets and they drop from there. Platelet counts are only a problem when they fall into the low 30s and approach 20,000. I have had decompensated cirrhosis for almost 3 years now. My platelet counts are rarely above 70,000. So most of the time my platelet counts are in the 60's and even in the 50's. There are no symptoms because of having lower platelets. There are plenty of platelets to clot my blood.
Avatar n tn Plavix/clopidogrel is mainly an anti-platelet drug (they are *usually* used artery-side, e.g., to prevent strokes or heart attacks). The other drugs mentioned are anticoagulants (which interfere with coagulant proteins such as Factor Xa -- they are usually used venous-side, e.g., preventing DVT after orthopedic surgery). Either type might be used for the in between, which is the heart: for AFib clotting/strokes. I don't know why your doc preferred to prescribe Plavix for DVT.
Avatar m tn I started treatment in the 40s. I have ITP which is a platelet disorder and haven't had higher numbers until recently. I had to get INVG before my biopsy to bring up my platelets. Now I'm in the 140s which is very strange. My doctors including my hepatologist and hemotologist can't figure out why.
Avatar n tn Hi all, I am a mom of 4 with a thirteen year old daughter. She has had three open heart surgeries,1995-2000-and 2008. I have never worried about the blood transfusions she has received as we live in the midwest and go to a wonderful Children's Hospital. I am now a little concerned ,we are about 16 months post surgery and I can't get the blood transfusion out of my mind. She had a bit of petichia on her arms and the Dr. ran a platelet count becaus leukemia does stike.
