I'm due dental work in a few weeks time and need to know how long I need to stop Clopedogrel before hand?.
He has been taking a med with clopidogrel and aspirin since then. He has had multiple mild strokes. The doctor has warned that another stroke will be very dangerous. Recently he has had multiple tooth decay. A dental procedure to take them off needs to be done. He is on painkillers now which is okay to manage the pain for the time being but the procedure needs to be done. The doctors are asking him to stop the bloodthinners for at least a week three days pre op and four days post op.
It is recognized drug eluding stents reduce restenosis compared to metal only stents, but there appears to be an increase in thrombosis (clots). The following is from FDA dated 2/1/08. The issue of clots with DES remains unsettled for length of time with clopidogrel regimen, and evaluation should be patient based and doctor's judgement.
My grandmother had stroke 6 years ago and she has atrial fibrilation.So far she used clopidogrel as treatment but her new doctor perscribed medication with rivaroxaban (but it is far more expensive) ?
I am currently taking plavix, 81mg aspirin AND coumadin on a daily basis. I had a stent put in in July 2008 and triple by pass in 2006. I'm 64 and had my first MI at 33. My father died of an MI at 46, my EF is under 30%. My EP (at one hospital) just suggested I eliminate the plavix while my CHF specialist (at a nearby major research university) said I would be on plavix for a "long time" (forever?).
ve eight stents and always was given a handful of Clopidogrel (Plavix) during the prep time before the surgery, and a couple of aspirins. They want the blood as thin as possible during the procedure to reduce the risk of stroke or arterial obstructions, obviously. I'd not be concerned and take the medication as asked.

My father has gone thru angiplasy few months back and he started getting Red or purple spots on the skin. He is taking deplatt and atorvasatin. I heard this can be due to deplatt(Clopidogrel). Please let me know any treatment for the same . should we discontinue Clopidogrel. Is there any alternative for this medicine in india.
I would just keep to the medications prescribed and eat a healthy diet. The Clopidogrel is important for the Stent and the drug coating on the stent will help to inhibit the formation of scar tissue.
I have been on Coumadin for 18 years due to Lupus Anticoagulant (Antiphospholipid Syndrome) and several DVTs. In 2005 had MI with occlusion of the LAD artery and had drug stent inserted and I am still on plavix. My doc has debated when to take me off the Plavix safely....what are the recent studies about this dilemma? thanks so much!
The American Dental Association has agreed with the American Heart Association and the AMA, that there are no dental procedures that require the patient to stop Plavix. I read this yesterday, and the article mentioned that much to their dismay, cardiologist were still hearing from their patients that some nutty dentists were still asking them to stop Plavix for a procedure.

Well before any decision is made for something like Warfarin, you should have your INR (clotting factor) tested. An INR of 1 is how long normal blood takes to clot. An INR of 2 means it take twice as long and so it goes on. Aspirin and Clopidogrel (plavix) I believe attack the clotting mechanisms in different ways. Personally I don't think they know the long term outcomes.
New data show that when clopidogrel and omeprazole are taken together, the effectiveness of clopidogrel is reduced. Patients at risk for heart attacks or strokes who use clopidogrel to prevent blood clots will not get the full effect of this medicine if they are also taking omeprazole.
1) finished treatment 24 weeks undected and latest labs were 9/25. Undected since week 2 geno 2.

2) A friend of mine was recently diagonsed with C geno 2. He started treatment with 800 Ribvairn and I 1 started with 1200. I weighed around 175. He weighhs now about 188, I question the dosage of 800 the doctor placed him on..
