clonidine xerostomia

Hello, I am suffering from an unexplained xerostomia for more than two years now and it seems HCV might be one of the causes. My anti-HCV tests are negative so far however I heard that often HCv is detected only with PCR RNA tests. Anyone can comment on this? The other common causes for xerostomia are HIV and HTLV (tested already for both). Thanks.

If you do have true xerostomia, you can try artificial saliva for the time being until you get final diagnosis. If there is no xerostomia identified, you may have burning mouth syndrome or dysesthesia. Clonazepam lozenge is the primary treatment of choice.

recently while searching about research on hiv saliva,i came to know that xerostomia is there in hiv people from the mentioned site..and xerostomia is characterised by dryness of mouth and it causes bleeding gums..and hiv patients also have canker sores and some times herpes also..so the saliva is less....i got several spit sprays on my eyes and mouth while going through crowd in the market..

I had intercourse with a girl on september 1st. The condom tore. I got tested immediately after, then 3 months after then 5 months and 15 days after all coming back negative. Is there still a possibility that I have HIV or am i just paranoid. I genetically have anxiety and I think that is causing symptoms such as xerostomia because that just occured but i think it's because i have a virus which is causing me to cough. I also work at a library so I am prone to getting sick from people.

If your mouth is dry(xerostomia) this certainly can increase the decay rate. There is nothing wrong with using a toothpaste with fluoride or fluoride mouth rinse.I do not know of any natural remedies that might help.If your mouth is dry it is important that try to keep it as moist as possible. There are some over the counter items that can be used to substitute for your own saliva. Much good luck.

it appears you are afflicted with relative xerostomia, if saliva collection demonstrates that salivary gland did produce nomal amount of saliva. peripheral and central neural dysfunction may be implacted in your presentations. Seeing an orofacial pain specialist or neurologist is advised.

Wow Jeni I'm not sure. The only time I took Clonidine was for my high blood pressure. I've heard that Clonidine helps with a lot of symptoms of withdrawal including cravings. My doctor gave me Zofran 8 mg for nausea. It worked really well. Sorry I can't be of more help. Hang on for a while.

Thus the reason for the foggy head/headache during the acute phase. The clonidine helped immensely and even helps with sleep.

It is really amazing my pain is completely almost gone, with the exception of a little soreness. I have starting weaning myself from the oxy and was going to ask my doc for some clonidine. How much does it really help with the w/d symptoms?

hi.....i have never used clonidine but it's suppose to be for high BP and also can be used for anxiety from what i've read. I am on a diff med for high BP. Good luck and hope it works for you! i've read that it helps alot of people calm down thru WDs.

s but only a caring doctor will give it, most would rather see you suffer....i took .1 mg of clonidine 3 times daily...worked tremendously well...if taking clonidine will help get you off your d.o.c.,...take it as your doctor has prescribed it...regardless of what you think MIGHT happen...it does help more than i can describe, i think it is a miracle drug for wd's. i took it for 10 days, then tapered for 3, it is not addictive, but you have to taper to avoid rebound high BP...

second, my doctor prescribed two clonidine patches for me for any withdrawl symptoms. What do these do ? my doc said it woud basically knock me out...love that of course... but, i am hesitant because i had never heard of it... i know it is a little strange for a prescription lover to be afraid of a new drug...weird. but, i would like to hear about some experiences with people who have tried it before. It really works. It will not make you 100% the same as if you were taking the percs but it helps with anxiety, sleeplessness and overall feeling like crap. My doctor gave me 1.0 milligrams with a refill. She is awesome. Yesterday was my full day 2 from all addictive substances (day 9 from Vicodin) and I had some anxiety late afternoon and evening. Took a pill each time and I was fine. Slept a full 8 hours.

My methadone doctor suggested clonidine for these symptoms, I know some of you have tried it and I was wondering if it helps much, and is it worth even taking? Thanks for your responses...

I am going hot and cold and getting hot flashes and really nauseous. My methadone doctor told me that clonidine will help these symptoms, I know some of you have tried it. I was wondering if I should start taking it, I am so uncomfortable. I know this is a slow and low taper, is it worth getting it?

Day 10 got some Clonidine from my doctor, Praise the Lord. Helping some. I may get through this. Not crying as much but still feel overall like crap. How much longer???

WIkipedia says clonidine is good for reducing sweats and general "unease", but the patient must withdraw carefully from it too, in order to avoid rebound hypertension. Has anyone had experience with this? Did you experience the rebound hypertension after using clonidine? I'm considering asking my doctor for this drug because I'm still experiencing w/d symptoms after 2 weeks w/d. I've not slept for four days, too. Thanks for your help.
