7091144 tn?1387989943 I was finally given a prescription drug to try called clonidine which is actually a blood pressure drug that has been around for a long time. NOTE it is CLONIDINE NOT klonipine. I later found out that this same drug is helpful when going through withdrawal. It is a prescription med but your GP or family doc might be willing to help you out by prescribing this. The dosage I take for my restless leg is .1 mg but my doc writes the prescription for .2 mg and I break them in half.

Opioid withdrawal lasts from hours to several days, depending on how long and how much a person has used their drug of choice. After the intense initial symptoms subside, some physical discomfort may persist for weeks. Medications for Opioid Withdrawal Opioid withdrawal is difficult to endure, and is a major reason for relapse and continued prescription drug abuse.
Avatar f tn Good for you tapering off of Percs! Ambien is a sleep med and is addictive as well, the only RX i would ask for is Clonidine and that is a blood pressure med that does help with the WD's some. Of course listen to your doc but thats all i can think of.
Avatar m tn anyone have any info on using Clonidine .1 mg for opiate withdrawal systems? Suppose to be a high blood pressure medication, but says it can be used for withdrawal systems too? wondering if it really works?
Avatar n tn Does clonidine help with the pain of opiate withdrawal? How does it help, what w/d symptoms does it alleviate, and are there bad side effects or withdrawal symptoms from the clonidine itself if taken for 5 days or so? Has anyone tried it?

3225128 tn?1347133998 I agree with weaver. You'd actually be wise to not stay on the Clonidine too long either, as it has its own "discontinuation syndrome", which can include anxiety, hypertension, tachycardia. Call your doc and ask about it. You should be allowed to just stop it. Get your doc's input first though.
10047460 tn?1407438406 Wow Jeni I'm not sure. The only time I took Clonidine was for my high blood pressure. I've heard that Clonidine helps with a lot of symptoms of withdrawal including cravings. My doctor gave me Zofran 8 mg for nausea. It worked really well. Sorry I can't be of more help. Hang on for a while.
Avatar m tn High blood pressure during WD can be treated with the clonidine. Do you take any other meds that might be helping the WDs and maybe don't realize it? Regardless.....just be glad it's not horrible, because it sure could be and is for most people! Me!! Congrats and best of luck!
Avatar f tn I find that a whole pill will knock me on my ars. Sometimes a tiny little piece will be enough to help with withdrawal symptoms. Keep up the good work.
Avatar n tn clonidine, a blood pressure medication that helps reduce all of the withdrawal symptoms; Neurontin, which seems to help with the 'sweats', immodium, sold over the counter for GI distress, and if your doc approves, ativan for the irritability. The problem is finding a doc to prescribe this cocktail. Call around and see if the county has a psychiatrist or nurse practitioner, and ask him/her if they will help with a 'home detox' using these or other medications.
Avatar n tn does clonidine in combination with ultram, help the severe withdrawal from opana?
Avatar f tn clonidine is originally for high blood pressure, and since the high bp causes a lot of the withdrawal symptoms (racing heart, sweats, etc) the Clonidine is suppose to lower your bp and help with these symptoms. It is possible your bp is dropping too low. Do you have a blood pressure cuff and have you talked to your doctor? You can go to a walgreens/walmart and have blood pressure taken as well.
Avatar f tn Kids at school are beginning to notice and are asking her about it. I have been given a prescription for Clonidine. Has anyone tried Clonidine? Was the Clonidine successful? What side effects were seen?

526311 tn?1229286330 The librium and clonidine are to help you not feel the symptoms (or feel less of them) of w/d. They don't delay w/d if that's what you are asking. The diarrhea is a sign that your body is experiencing w/d. Be thankful the librium and clonidine are working so well. You can take immodium for the runs on top of the other two meds.
Avatar f tn Hi there, I am tapering down from methadone, was at 130mgs two years ago, and am currently at 41mgs, now tapering 2mg /week. I am already starting to get withdrawal symptoms which surprises me as this is not really a small dose. I am going hot and cold and getting hot flashes and really nauseous. My methadone doctor told me that clonidine will help these symptoms, I know some of you have tried it. I was wondering if I should start taking it, I am so uncomfortable.
Avatar f tn Tues will take lase clonidine pill then that eve switch to clonidine patch. Next day stop all methadone. Dr said she will call me everyday will increase clonidine patch continue to use Valium for anxiety and tramadol if needed. I am pretty nervous cause I am doing this alone at home what do you think?

Avatar f tn Today, I was curious about how long does it take to detox and didnt see any comments about Clonidine. If anyone can get your hands on it, it is a life-saver during the withdrawal period. Last time I only took it a few days. a week tops. I would pop one every now and then if I felt jittery. It is not a controlled substance and there is NO risk for addicton to this medication (Clonidine). I am suprised it is not more widely discussed or known about.
Avatar n tn So....when I was trying to get off of opiates, or at least when I should say I STARTED my recovery process, my doc was privy to what was doing on. She wanted me to get off without prescribing me Suboxin. She said it was trading one addiction for another.
Avatar n tn Just discovered my daughter is additcted to hydrocodone , take 6 daily as an average 10 mg. along with Bontril,Ambien, And zanaz. She is 27, not in good health with juvinile diabetes since her teen years. What are the dangers she facing if she decides to go "cold turkey" with this withdrawal. Thank You s much in advance for any info I may recieve.
Avatar m tn Go lower if possible with your methadone before stopping. People say the lower the less withdrawal. The doc will give you clonidine and valium no problem, if you tell him what it's for, but I would only take 2.5mg valium with 50mg clonidine, I took them every 4 hours for 3 days, then once a night, I only needed the meds for 8 days. Double check with your doc this will work for you. He may want you to do something different. Best of luck to you.
