Avatar m tn I know that Tizanidine is similar to Clonidine and I have read that if you stop Atenolol while on Clonidine you could go into hypertensive crisis due to alpha antagonism. I am curious if this is also an issue with Tizanidine. I've read Tizandine is like 1/50th the potency of Clonidine but I'm not sure if there are any issues here. I am only taking 12.
Avatar f tn i want to start this detox cold turkey today from oxy snorting 3-4 a day my doctor i asked him for clonidine and he gave me atenolol 50 mg twice a day instead not getting anyone to let me know i googled it is used for alcohol withdrawals... can find anything on it .... will it work as well or the same as clonidine? also he gave me tramadol which i already no i very addicting to, but he said do not abuse and take only when needed it will be alot of help. i also have .
795648 tn?1237252599 Theres no otc pain relievers that Im aware of that have negative interaction with clonidine, and yes you can take immodium. I take clonidine still to this day for my blood pressure and I use naproxen, aspirin, tylenol etc. and I was taking immodium during my detox while on clonidine. If you want to be safe go to drugs.com and look up clonidine and it will tell you all the possible interactions it can have. As far as I know there shouldnt be anything to worry about.
Avatar n tn i can not even walk up a flight of stairs without being very short of breath. i am prescribed atenolol and clonidine and i finally decided to take more dosages than prescribed. i took 100mg of atenolol and 0.2 of clonidine at once. my heart rate is 44 bpm and my blood pressure is 100/69. this is the lowest that i can remember these readings ever being. i only feel very lethargic and sleepy and like i am about to lose consciousness, but honestly,i do not mind that..
Avatar m tn m on 120m Diltiazem 3x, .1 Clonidine 2x and .2 Clonidine at bedtime. BP is still high. More Clonidine (i.5-2) during the day will drop it to120/80 or below, but it drops my heartbeat to 40-50 an dI'll fall asleep. My heartrate otherwise is 56-62. I'm at the point where I really don't care much anymore. If I check my BP it just makes my BP go higher because I feel it's futile. Got a suggestion?
401554 tn?1270213756 Hi everybody, I've been diagnosed with PVC's along with an elevated heart rate (~90-95 BPM while resting) and am currently taking Atenolol 50mg per day, which has reduced my PVC's and heart rate significantly. However, I still get bouts of PVC's and a pounding heart from time to time. My doctor thinks it's because I have very high anxiety levels, which has charged up my sympathetic nervous system.

Avatar f tn I've never been on clonidine or atenolol so I can't help you there. My POTS doctor says you should get 2-4 grams of salt a day but I'm barely able to get 2 so I don't know.
214529 tn?1333303619 told me I can increase if I need to, but it seems to me that this beta blocker makes me sleepy and depressed lowers my blood pressure and now I wonder if the slowing of the heart rate is not making my skips worse. Should I increase my atenolol, stop my atenolol or should I try Magnesium. I have heard alot of people say that Magnesium has helped them. If I do stop taking the atenolol I know you are not supposed to stop all together how should I wean myself off of it, again I take 25 mg a day...
612551 tn?1450022175 1. by taking the same mg atenolol as you did metoprolol you doubled your dosage of effective beta blocker.
Avatar m tn Should I go back to my Doctor and request he put me back on Atenolol? I believe the Atenolol was doing the job. I had a few spikes and most of them were while in a Doctors office. I might add I have been taking the Atenolol since my Heart Surgery in 1996.
Avatar n tn I am on Crestor, Atenolol, Cartia and Digoxin and Synthroid. I had Tachicardia and Atrial Fib. I have symptoms of shortness of breath, a dry cough, extreme fatigue, short term memory loss, extreme joint pain and stiffness, poor balance, weakness at times, vision gets dark at times, neck and throat soreness. I'm going to my doctor because I can't function with these symptoms. Can you tell me which meds can cause this and what other meds I could take. Thank you.
Avatar n tn I was switch from Toprol which caused my bp to drop too low and made me dizzy. My EP switched me to Atenolol which, he said, does not cross the blood-brain barrier and not cause the dizziness. I took it alone for 7 years and controlled afib with it.
585414 tn?1288941302 When I tried to stop the clonidine my pain returned. I tried to just take the clonidine and that didn’t work. Now with the low dose of oxy and clonidine I have relief from the severe pain and can live a more normal life.
Avatar n tn The problem is the effect this has on my sense of well-being. Though I'm SO thankful for the effects of atenolol, I'm afraid, as I don't really know what/how harmful these episodes are. I've subsequently developed panic attacks, where b/f I had no anxiety issues. I’d let others convince me that this was only anxiety & tried Lexapro (exacerbated rhythm) & Klonopin (couldn't tolerate sedation).
Avatar f tn I had an EP study 5 days ago that showed the problem area either inside the muscle or on the outside. Dr. tried for 2 hours, but couldn't ablate from the inside. Very disappointing day. He started me on Flecainide-I had vision problems and migraines for the first few days, but better now (I'm keeping my fingers crossed!). He also has me on 25mg atenolol. The Dr. mentioned another procedure that's more invasive. I looked it up & it's Epicardial Ablation.
Avatar n tn Hi-- I had posted a week or so ago re: ablation vs medication (mine was the very long post--I'll try to be shorter this time!) I went for the EP study/ablation yesterday and the MD told me that it wasn't AVNRT but turned out that I had 2 SA nodes, one of which he ablated. Since the procedure, my HR has been high (90-100 resting), but I had been on atenolol 25 mg BID for tachycardia. What does this mean--Why would i have had 2 SA nodes and will this return?
Avatar n tn NO low Blood Pressure now in the mornings since I now take Metroplol in the AM vs Atenolol at bedtime. No Afib episodes yet (that I can feel at least)...just a little headache once in awhile....Taking No alcohol, tea, or chocolate.......Are there other foods I should eat or not eat? Is pacemaker always forever? How much more effective is Coumid vs aspirin....In my case does my condition usually worsen (become more frequent over time? or sometimes does the heart settle down? Thanks!!
Avatar f tn Question for those taking Clonidine.... I'm having a hard time acquiring Clonidine, I'm in Canada and the manufacturer cannot supply my pharmacy whith what I need, I have to have the 0.025mg pills so I can combine them to take 0.050mg three times a day and 0.075mg at bed time, the last prescription they could only supply me with 0.2mg tablets, so I have to cut them into 4's to get the 0.050mg dosis, I still have some 0.
Avatar m tn A-fib) since he was 36 (diagnosed and became persistent in 2000, oddly right after starting Atenolol for it - but told no connection to Atenolol -That he was probably already about to go into persistent AF at the time). The first cardiologist he saw back then put him on a regime of Atenolol (25 mg) and 325 mcg of aspirin instead of cardioverting him...
Avatar m tn Finally saw the EP on the 20th of Jan and because of the SVT and anxiety, he put me on Atenolol 25mg twice a day. This was kind of nice at first, no more racing beats! A bit more lightheaded than usual, but pretty OK. On the 4th of Feb, it started. The heart skips. I would get them in the past maybe once a day, once a week, once a month, it varied. On that day and the days since I am having 4-5 per minute.
Avatar m tn Atenolol made me worse too. I had a really bad period last year when I was in the ER 5 times and in the hospital once. Even had a couple of episodes of afib. My doctor suggested bystolic. It has worked very well for the last year, I have been very pleased with it. In fact, I didn't switch my insurance this year because the alternative company did not want to authorize the use of the bystolic (it's a lot more expensive).
Avatar f tn I've been taking Clonidine now for 15 days, I'm taking .05mg 4 times a day, my blood pressure seems to be more in the normal range, with movement it does still go high but not as high. My heart rate on the other hand is still quite high, it only slows down to a normal range if I lay down, and even then it is at about 87, just sitting I'm at 101, is clonidine suppossed to help with the heart rate too? do I have to wait longer for this medication to work on my heart rate?
1244042 tn?1269980489 I will try. Any suggestions on how to do this...please...I will try massage, back to beta blocker (atenolol), biofeedback, moderate exercise, relaxation, chamomile tea, and whatever else seems practical. At a low tonight.
Avatar f tn t had any other problems with Lisinopril besides the cough and I am scared to change meds and take the chance of worse side effects. I am just wondering if anybody has any thoughts on Lisinopril vs Losartan to help me decide if I should change meds. Thanks!!!
