clonidine usual dose

anyone use clonidine during WDs? What dose,,,just wondering..

I really thought he would change the meds or change the dose. Anyway its probably best that I stay at a low dose anyway so its easier to get off later. If anyone has any info about this combo please let me know.

She has been on Vicodin 10mg for a couple of years now. She usually takes about 6 plus a day. She has been through wd before, but this time wd seems to be pretty severe. Her Dr. did prescribe her clonidine but only to take a pill at night.

Wow Jeni I'm not sure. The only time I took Clonidine was for my high blood pressure. I've heard that Clonidine helps with a lot of symptoms of withdrawal including cravings. My doctor gave me Zofran 8 mg for nausea. It worked really well. Sorry I can't be of more help. Hang on for a while.

Yes Clonidine does help some. Also check out the Thomas Recipe for vitamins and supplements that will help too. And Larrys Recipe too. But don't take the xanax etc as that will just cause more problems.

i would really like to know why I am having withdrawl symtons when I usaully go 13 hrs without my percocet. I usually take 1 1/2 of the 10/325mg and I only cut it to my OLD usual 1 pill and now I am having symtoms. I'm wondering if it's psychological, because I am trying to get off of it or not. Is it possible to have symtoms hust by lowering the dose a little, especially since i took this doe the longest?

just an fyi to you....I don't know what kind of doctor prescribed you clonidine but the usual dose is 0.1 mg three times a day. Are you sure you weren't given klonopin, which is a benzodiazepine, and can be given at 2mg doses? Some people have actually been prescribed 0.3 mg clonidine but never that I have ever known have they been given 2 mgs. That would drop your blood pressure way too much! Just thought I would ask. You are right, though, clonidine is a bp med.....but klonopin is not.

How long do you normally take clonidine for withdrawal symptoms from Oxycontin and Percocet?

I am already starting to get withdrawal symptoms which surprises me as this is not really a small dose. I am going hot and cold and getting hot flashes and really nauseous. My methadone doctor told me that clonidine will help these symptoms, I know some of you have tried it. I was wondering if I should start taking it, I am so uncomfortable. I know this is a slow and low taper, is it worth getting it?

My doc prescribed me some 0.3 clonidine tablets ,he said it would get me thru the nasty WD ,he only gave me a script 4 six of them which is three days worth I'm suppose 2 take 1 n the am & anotha in the pm starting 2morrow 4 the next 3 days&he said I shouldn't experience any WD while. I'm on them ,just the mental part. Which ill b following up with aftercare,has or does anybody out there have any knowledge about this clonidine??????

Do you know what clonidine is?? Why do you think your dose is too low? It's not supposed to get you high; it's supposed to keep you comfortable while you work on recovering from your addiction,right?

so the chances of it making u sleepy decrease significantly and hopefully the clonidine will bring u to normal state...if it makes u sleepy u may need to get the dose adjusted..i am not sure of ur habit before//how much or what u were taking It is a blood pressure medication...a potent one and has a side effect of drowsiness cos it slows everything down..so it helps the runs, sleep, anxiety etc.

while on methadone for 10 years I was taking a quite high dose of clonidine for excessive sweating. The doctor told me to continue on the clonidine and we would taper down on that once I was on a stable dose of suboxone. He said there are no harmful interactions between the two. But whenever I take the clonidine it feels like it is kicking me into withdrawal again. severe agitation anxiety racing heart dizziness and double vision. Whats going on please?

Sorry for the delayed response. My kids have been sick with this and that so I have gotten behind on stuff.... My heart rate is about the same as yours. Before I was on the Clonidine, it was usually high 80's lying down, 90-100 sitting, then jumped way up with standing or even light activity. Now it is still jumping up too high with activity and I am really just as exhausted as before I started it.

I just went through a usual Methadone detox. The Doc had me on clonidine the whole time and started a taper around day 40. after 2 days without the clonidine I felt like I was kick'n Heroin again. I had extreme RLS, vomiting, Chills, no sleep. Extremely bad WD symptoms. I was in treatment for 29 days and started kick'n about 9 days before that. I went to the hospital and was told that I was detoxing from the clonidine. I had no idea. They put me back on .

ur doctor will have to advise u on the clonidine dose..side effect can lower ur bp and make u pass out...75 mg a day is not a horrible dose to detox from...will fel flu like for a few days..do u work...? pick a day that u have a few days off to quit if u taper...there is a great article in the health pages on tapering..main thing is stop taking 5 at once and spread them out thru the day and go lower and lower/5-6 does a day...

Just found this group... Doc has me on clonidine .1 -- when I took this yesterday for first time, it packed a big punch, re dizziness/disorientation tho this did pass as day went on. So today thought perhaps I would cut .1 in half and take twice a day... still not much relief from my withdrawal from fr tubal, then morphine for major pain with bone issues. Is there a .01 to take? Or will taking the .1 twice a day eventually be easier on me?

Unfortunately, the muscle relexants I take for my physical disability are activating and keep me up until mid morning though I think when the Clonidine hits the proper dose and I can transfer to the patch form that should help that as well as the fact that when I was on it I was able to be out and about and after I stopped it the physical disability returned and I became homebound and would like in time for spring to get back to the outside world (besides daily walks).

WIkipedia says clonidine is good for reducing sweats and general "unease", but the patient must withdraw carefully from it too, in order to avoid rebound hypertension. Has anyone had experience with this? Did you experience the rebound hypertension after using clonidine? I'm considering asking my doctor for this drug because I'm still experiencing w/d symptoms after 2 weeks w/d. I've not slept for four days, too. Thanks for your help.

Very severe not one second of releif from the pain the legs the whole bit a bath or hot shower helps but it comes back soon after.Took my first dose clonidine hcl 0.1 mg at about 10:30 am It took over an hour to help 2 pills a day 12 hours apart.Was sleeping by 12:00 noon woke up at almost 5:00 PM. With out it I know I would not have slept at all today. My withdrawals might be more severe than yours and it did help.

The vomiting may or may not be related to the Clonidine as well. Typical average dose of Clonidine is 0.1-0.2 mg. Sounds like you may have been on a significantly higher dose. What was the Clonidine Rx'd for?

One thing you might consider is employing Strattera ( a non-stimulant) to treat the ADHD and to divide the Clonidine dose over the day to address the oppositionality. In other words, ask the doctor about giving some at night (he might not actually require .2 mg at night) and then even a quarter of a pill in the morning and perhaps after school.

I am the same age as you and I was also given clonidine during my detox - I can tell you from my own experience that the dose I was on was .2mg/day. I am not sure if the clonidine has an effect on your pulse, but it will definitely reduce the blood pressure. I would personally wait until your appointment tomorrow and ask your doctor. Congratulations on your detox and for quitting. Keep posting on your progress.

I just spoke with Steven and there is someone he works with sending clonidine home for us. I realize we should be under a dr.'s care but we aren't. 1. Can we both take it? 2. 1 per night, correct? Could we 1/2 one tonight, would that help? 3. Is there a reason we should not use this?

Clonidine is a drug primarily prescribed to regulate blood pressure so it can be helpful if you are suffering from heart palpitations or feel your bp is higher than usual. Some women are prone to low blood pressure, however, so clonidine would not be advisable in that case as it would only make you feel weaker. It may help somewhat with temperature regulation & other than the potential to unduly lower bp has minimal side effects & is not addictive.
