Avatar f tn Interesting, the fairly standard treatment for adhd is a stimulant med. your son is on an antipsychotic and a "calming" down med which explains the going to sleep. Kind of surprised about the meds being used but I don't know his symptoms. What kind of a doctor are you seeing? My concern is that the meds he is taking tend to mask the adhd rather then treat it. Have you gotten much info on adhd? There is a lot that can also be done besides just the meds.
Avatar f tn My five year old son has high functioning autism and ADHD. He is now potty trained but can be quite hyperactive before bedtime and has a hard time winding down at night. We have tried everything to calm him down and have a good bedtime routine. He gets plenty of fresh air and exercise. He is on 20 mg of ritilan during the day. His psychiatrist prescribed 1 tablet of clonidine before bedtime to help him fall asleep and stay asleep. The medication has worked for this.
Avatar f tn The most frequent combination is a psychostimulant to treat the ADHD and an antihypertenisive (like Clonidine or Tenex) to addres the oppositional behavior. One thing you might consider is employing Strattera ( a non-stimulant) to treat the ADHD and to divide the Clonidine dose over the day to address the oppositionality. In other words, ask the doctor about giving some at night (he might not actually require .

As for myself the Klonopin has been of some use in treating tardive dyskinesia. The Clonidine was much better. When I was on it, I could go out. I became homebound after that because the Clonidine and Tizanidine both alpha blockers were much better at controlling dystonic spasms.
Avatar n tn My son turned 5 in March, his doctor told me he might have ADHD. He barely sleeps, and he gets up all different hours of the night or early morning. He doesn't just get up he tears up everything. Sometimes it is bread spread through the house, baby powder, flour, basically anything he can get his hands on. He is hyper all day long, I dont know why he doesn't sleep at night. I dont know what to do to get him to stop making a huge mess every morning. Has anyone else had this problem?
Avatar f tn Hello, yes I have been taking this combination of Vyvanse (70mg per day in the am) and Clonidine (0.2mg in the afternoon and 0.2mg at night). I highly prefer Vyvanse over adderall because I do not suffer from side effects w/Vyvanse as with the adderall. The Vyvanse is much smoother than most all other adhd drugs. I have never experienced shortness of breath while taking Vyvanse, however, I am 25 years old and 180lbs. I am also a Registered Nurse.
Avatar f tn In conclusion, there are not enough data on use of stimulant medications in pregnancy to allow definitive conclusions about their reproductive safety. Available data for Amphetamines suggest no increase in the risk of malformation when used at therapeutic doses, while infants might have slightly lower birth weights. Human data on Methylphenidate is limited and we cannot rule out the risk of malformation given the available information.
Avatar n tn He is currently taking 20mg of Mediate, 10 mg Abilify, 10 mg Prozac and .5 of clonidine in the morning. He takes a.5 clonidine at noon and at 4:00 P.M he take .5 clonidine and 10 of Ritalin. At bedtime he takes .5 of clonidine and 10 of Abilify. Most evenings he is so tired he wants to go to bed by 7:00 or 7:30. Can this be a result of all of this medication?

Avatar n tn Many psychotropics are approved for use to treat pediatric psychiatric disorders if the physician exercises appropriate caution. Use of these drugs in combination would not be an unusual practice if done responsibly. It is not uncommon for children with complex emotional and behavioral issues to receive more than one psychotropic medication.
Avatar n tn my son takes clonidine, he has adhd and the drugs he takes to treat the adhd stop him sleeping so he takes the clonidine for that. didnt know it could be used to help with w/d's, apparently clonidine started life as a treatment for high blood pressure but now has many uses. dont know if there are w/d's from clonidine but my sons doc told us never to take him straight of it because it would cause his blood pressure to rocket.
Avatar f tn My 12 year old son has been diagnosed with a "mood disorder" and ADHD. His father is a rapid cycling bipolar and I see so many of the same bahaviors in my son. How do I get his psych dr to agree to try a mood stabalizer on him? He is currently on Clonidine, Resperidal, and about 6 weeks ago they put him on Adderall as well.
Avatar m tn I am a 12yr old female. It's the middle of the night and I am not telling my parents because I know they will say it's nothing to worry about. So I woke up around 3:00 am to wierd feeling in my chest as if I couldn't breathe, I could breathe completely fine though but it felt uncomfortable. It was in the middle of my "lower" chest. Hard to describe exactly where.
Avatar n tn 15 yr old daughter was diag with adhd 2nd grade - although was family "joke" adhd long before. 1st on adderall with explosive behavior - had to try before could take straterra, insurance. Strattera was fine for sev yrs - although only limited imp - just enough to tolerate her. Problems with social interaction and her mouth - she's constantly argumentative and I believe ODD. After menstruation began, strattera appeared worthless.
Avatar f tn Are you on anything besides the clonidine? It is important for me to know all your meds before I can make a assessment.
Avatar f tn Clonidine was initially used as an antihypertensive but it has come to be used to treat a variety of behavioral disorders including tics, symptoms of ADHD, aggression, PTSD, anxiety, panic disorder, or sleep problems. Medication of this sort can be helpful and has shown to be most effective in conjunction with systematic behavioral programming.

Me n him were confused and didn’t realize until the end. Will this hurt him ? Should I be concerned.

Avatar f tn All of them do not involve medication. Speaking of medication - non of the meds your son is taking are for ADHD. But ADHD and SIDS also have very common symptoms. Hope some of this helps. I will be glad to try and answer any other questions. But please check out our SIDS site - it is very, very good.
Avatar n tn Drowsy - no focus, motivation, attention benefits, and he is beginning to pick his finger nails now.
