ve done two c/t detoxes and the second one I used clonidine. Even though my opiate usage was double the strength and length than the first detox, my second detox was way easier and I attribute this to the clonidine. I didn't even vomit. I took it quite often and I monitored my BP at home because I naturally have low blood pressure. I took it for 2-3 weeks, I can't remember. I'll take it again when I taper after detox.

After many years of trying to taper, my husband is going to get off Oxy's cold turkey. Clinics aren't an option because of his job. I know his usage is over 300 mgs a day but not sure of the number. He snorts them but says he has quit in preparation for this, but it is doubtful. Could someone give me the "Thomas Recipe" I think it is called of natural things that help during detox?
I'm also trying to figure out whether or not to use Clonidine.

It should take about 5 to 7 days for the physical part to be over with, with days 3 and 4 being the worst. It's different for everybody, depending on usage, length of time using, etc. There is the Thomas Recipe which you can find in the Health Pages if you scroll down to the bottom right side of the page. There's also an Amino Acid Protocol that have some supplements that will help as well.

I've been taking 20 to 30 mgs ( 3- 10-325's) for two months now. I'm going to quit, but I can't miss work with all the bad side effects. I've been listening quietly to all the remedies, any advice? And what's this stuff Clonidine? I tried to quit a week ago but caved in after two days, with most of the symptoms everyone else talks about. Never thought I'd let myself get in this situation, I actually have a prescription, but I don't want to take 'em anymore.

I am taking the clonidine the ER doctors gave me on my last attempt to get off this highly addictive medication. I would suggest to you like the other lady not to jump from one addiction to the other. Just try to come off the methadone itself. The withdrawls are tough, but the worst is trying to stay clean afterwords. I am determined to stay off the subs before its ruins my life for good. Good luck with your sobriety as well.
It is really amazing my pain is completely almost gone, with the exception of a little soreness. I have starting weaning myself from the oxy and was going to ask my doc for some clonidine. How much does it really help with the w/d symptoms?

hi.....i have never used clonidine but it's suppose to be for high BP and also can be used for anxiety from what i've read. I am on a diff med for high BP. Good luck and hope it works for you! i've read that it helps alot of people calm down thru WDs.
second, my doctor prescribed two clonidine patches for me for any withdrawl symptoms. What do these do ? my doc said it woud basically knock me out...love that of course... but, i am hesitant because i had never heard of it... i know it is a little strange for a prescription lover to be afraid of a new drug...weird. but, i would like to hear about some experiences with people who have tried it before. It really works. It will not make you 100% the same as if you were taking the percs but it helps with anxiety, sleeplessness and overall feeling like crap. My doctor gave me 1.0 milligrams with a refill. She is awesome.
Yesterday was my full day 2 from all addictive substances (day 9 from Vicodin) and I had some anxiety late afternoon and evening. Took a pill each time and I was fine. Slept a full 8 hours.

I am going hot and cold and getting hot flashes and really nauseous. My methadone doctor told me that clonidine will help these symptoms, I know some of you have tried it. I was wondering if I should start taking it, I am so uncomfortable. I know this is a slow and low taper, is it worth getting it?
Day 10 got some Clonidine from my doctor, Praise the Lord. Helping some. I may get through this. Not crying as much but still feel overall like crap. How much longer???
