880900 tn?1467270141 WIkipedia says clonidine is good for reducing sweats and general "unease", but the patient must withdraw carefully from it too, in order to avoid rebound hypertension. Has anyone had experience with this? Did you experience the rebound hypertension after using clonidine? I'm considering asking my doctor for this drug because I'm still experiencing w/d symptoms after 2 weeks w/d. I've not slept for four days, too. Thanks for your help.
Avatar m tn are you taking it while you detox? did a doctor prescribe the clonidine?
1124967 tn?1283705847 Using too much can drop a persons blood pressure super low and cause fainting. Stopping clonidine can cause rebound hypertension- making the BP spike to super high levels. IT can be a great med, but please have your friend follow the docs orders. Wish I had a better answer for you.
198154 tn?1337787265 I know this is sort of an old post, but I see some new activity and it's a common topic for opiate withdrawals so I wanted to add one thing. Somebody mentioned fainting or blacking out or something. Basically since this medication is lowering your blood pressure, it can cause orthostatic hypotension - if you stand up too quickly, you don't get enough blood to your head and you can get dizzy or even pass out.
Avatar n tn Clonidine can cause some rebound hypertension but I doubt it's deadly unless there's heart problems already. But, that's why we always say to do this under a doctor's care. From your post, it seems like your husband is a classic addict. 300mg's a day is a pretty heavy habit as well. You should really consider getting him either into an outpatient or inpatient rehab facility. It's pretty clear that after his years of trying that the same old way isn't working.
Avatar f tn Discontinuing Clonidine can cause a rebound hypertension. Be sure your doc is aware you were on it, and how much you were taking.
589824 tn?1238796813 Long term use of Clonidine should be tapered. BUT it does not cause the same type of W/D as opiates. If you suddenly stop Clonidine, you can suffer what is called "rebound hypertension" In otherwards, your blood pressure will go up. So it is not a huge deal unless you have underlying cardiac issues or existing high BP.
Avatar m tn If you stop taking this Cold Turkey without tapering off, you will suffer severe rebound hypertension. Your BP can shoot up to 210/130 easily (personal experience) depending how long you have been on it. The drowsy effect of Clonidine usually wears off within a week or two, unless the dose is increased.
Avatar n tn BP on awaking this am was 171/99. Yesterday post-nap was 121/76. Dramatic reactions to foods. Turkey (but not chicken) lowers it, asparagus raises it. Practically anything non fresh raises it (tyramines?) to point of hypertertensive crisis. Also get rebounds so if one thing lowers it, then there's a rebound later. So getting dramatic overreactions to near everything. Overstimulation can put it in hypertensive crisis too.
Avatar n tn I am 6'1", 195 lb, 35 yrs. I take clonidine and lisinopril for high blood pressure. I take no other medications. I do not use drugs. I do not smoke. I do drink but not very much. I have taken up aerobic exercise, but I have had to discontinue it. Just a brisk walk for half an hour and my diastolic bp goes from 80 to 115. I get headaces. My eyes hurt. The level it reaches during exercise I don't want to think about.
6207615 tn?1380212808 My understanding of Clonidine was that it could cause rebound hypertension but not actual withdrawal symptoms like you get with pills or methadone or anything like that. Were you on anything else other than the Clonidine?
Avatar m tn There have also been problems with people having rebound hypertension when they come off it, which is why it should be taken under supervision. As for the Cymbalta, I would seriously doubt it would help. It takes time to build up in your system. It's an antidepressant and also used to treat certain types of pain. Just a word of caution: I was put on that for nerve pain and I had an adverse affect and was spiraled into a very dark depression.
1909286 tn?1379435137 It is possible that you are having rebound hypertension. Sometimes with the blood pressure meds, when you quit taking them your blood pressure spikes.(Usually it happens after longer term use than a week, but it's hard to say.) Detox can also make your BP spike and high BP can cause massive headaches. It could also be a lot of other stuff too. I had low BP during detox and still had the worst headache. Is there any way you can check your BP?
Avatar n tn Clonidine is the only b/p med out there that will cause rebound hypertension if you come off of it to fast. In my experince you have to taper off very slowly if you have been taking it for longer then a few days. Have the drs said why they are in such a rush to get him off of it? Any Dr should know that it takes days if not weeks to come off of clonidine...12 hours is to fast.
439522 tn?1214951189 Hi, all. Last pills were Friday night at 5pm. I keep reminding myself that I am doing this for my family...especially my youngest boy, and myself. Today is better than first two days, for sure...but still pretty crappy. My doctor gave me clonidine to help with the withdrawls. However, I asked for it and he just prescribed it and he didn't even really act like he knew it would help, but he said it made sense. However, he prescribed me two months worth at least.
Avatar f tn I understand that when you stop taking Clonidine, you must taper off because you can have a rebound effect. How does one taper off the patch?
Avatar n tn There are many adverse effects, and one of those is rebound hypertension. It should gradually be discontinued over 2-4 days to prevent it. I have never taken it, so hopefully there'll be someone who has come to help you.
Avatar m tn Clonidine is a med also used for hypertension so it would be okay to take the Valium; the two don't compete.Due to the drowsy effect of both, don't take them at the same time.
Avatar f tn Hi, Im already taking Norvasc 5 Mg and Lisinopril 12.5 Mg for my Hypertension. My Dr. wants to bring in another Blood Pressure pill ( clonidine) If i spelled that right. Do any of you all take this combo?? Just wondering if all of these made your blood pressure drop too low? Thanks for input!
Avatar f tn I have sporadic periods of hypertension where my bp will spike well over 160/110. They can last for days, or just an hour, but it is causing me a lot of problems because they can occur at anytime. When the bp spikes happen at night, I wake up shaking. I cannot take beta blockers because they make my bp go even higher. I am taking clonidine when I have these spikes.
Avatar f tn My doc prescribed me some 0.3 clonidine tablets ,he said it would get me thru the nasty WD ,he only gave me a script 4 six of them which is three days worth I'm suppose 2 take 1 n the am & anotha in the pm starting 2morrow 4 the next 3 days&he said I shouldn't experience any WD while. I'm on them ,just the mental part. Which ill b following up with aftercare, has or does anybody out there have any knowledge about this clonidine??????
Avatar n tn After six years of treatment for hypertension I have discovered it was caused by medications and their interactions. Discontinuing these and changing nothing else my blood pressure is lower than 115/75. Furthermore the blood pressure elevating effects of these medications has been reported many times in medical journals. I was prescribed effexor which raises blood pressure by itself. My doctors didn't tell me this.
Avatar f tn Norvasc 10 mg 1 x day was prescribed to take instead of Clonidine .1mg 2 x day. However, the Norvasc is not working after 12 hrs. My B/P is 150/113 12 hrs after taking the norvasc. Can I take a clonidine .1 mg along with the norvasc?
