Avatar f tn How long do you normally take clonidine for withdrawal symptoms from Oxycontin and Percocet?
441267 tn?1211687001 clonadine for w/d should only be needed for the firts 10 days unless you are coming off of a long acting opiate like meth or sub then 14 days max. To reach max blood pressure benifits clonidine takes 14 -20 days to work so unless you have a native blood pressure that is very low you should have no issues using it for a short period of time.
Avatar n tn Has anyone on here tried the blood pressure medicine Clonidine to help w/ physical withdrawals? I do not have a doctor I trust, so I ordered a prescription from Mexicao and am waiting to receive it. Has this really helped anyone out there? I read that it makes you really tired; is it too tired to function? Please help. I completely fell off of the wagon a few weeks ago and am desperate now. Please pray for me.

5204799 tn?1365456784 I would still recommend the Clonidine over the Klonopin because the Clonidine lasts for a pretty long time and it isn't a narcotic.
877402 tn?1241569071 Methadone is a long-acting opioid medicine. It activates the same opioid receptors as narcotics, effectively eliminating withdrawal symptoms. Providing the correct dose of methadone prevents opioid withdrawal symptoms and eases drug craving but it does not provide the euphoria. The dose can be slowly tapered off, freeing the person from physical dependence without withdrawal symptoms. Methadone is the most effective known treatment for narcotic addiction.
Avatar f tn The clonidine worked wonders for my chills, sweating, heart palpitations and even my anxiety. I took it round the clock every 6 hours the first 3 days then just went to PRN after that. I think the pills are better because if your BP is too low you just don't take another pill, whereas if you have the patch on, even if you take it off you still have the long acting drug working. I didn't need much phenergan as I really didnt have a problem with nausea as much as loss of appetite.
Avatar f tn Does any1 knw how long you usually have to stay on clonidine after getting off opiates? And am I still considered in detox even tho its bn twelve days?
Avatar f tn ve decided (and sent an email) to talk to the NP at the pain clinic about switching me over to a long-acting medication for my pain. I'm thinking it will give me better relief. Even though I'm on a high dose now (45 mg. every 4 hours of oxycodone,) my pain seems to return after 2 to 3 hours. And I did have a bad flare-up this weekend; most likely due to the fact I ran low on medication due to my script not coming in the mail. Now it's a question of which medication???
Avatar m tn once your fully dont with withdrawing off of the suboxone im sure you will be taken off clonidine then as long as you dont have to deal with mental cravings your physical withdrawal will have been made as painless as possible lucky you
Avatar m tn anyone know how long the clonidine patch takes to start working, I started using it last night for opiate withdrawls. 6 yrs. of use and it is time to end this vicious cycle; i was taking 60 mg. methadone for a back problem a day. today is day 2.
Avatar m tn It is really amazing my pain is completely almost gone, with the exception of a little soreness. I have starting weaning myself from the oxy and was going to ask my doc for some clonidine. How much does it really help with the w/d symptoms?
1855076 tn?1337115303 I have a hard time remembering what each medicine is, generic name versus brand names. I'm once again having a hard time controlling the pain. I have come down to a very small dose and I haven't been using anything long acting. My goal was to see if I could manage on nothing or very little and it's very clear that my quality of life is nonexistent on such a low dose. I'm taking oxycodone 10 mg. every 4 hours. I essentially get about an hour to 1.
Avatar f tn I applaud you resolve to stay clean, but want to caution you that methadone is a long acting narcotic and your withdrawal symptoms will stick around for quite a while. You will feel rotten for as long as four to six weeks. You can try asking a physician to prescribe you some Requip for restless legs, Clonidine for blood pressure and general anxiety control and maybe get some over the counter Valerian for sleep and sedation.
10047460 tn?1407438406 Wow Jeni I'm not sure. The only time I took Clonidine was for my high blood pressure. I've heard that Clonidine helps with a lot of symptoms of withdrawal including cravings. My doctor gave me Zofran 8 mg for nausea. It worked really well. Sorry I can't be of more help. Hang on for a while.
Avatar n tn m also trying to figure out whether or not to use Clonidine. Sounds like it would make him a lot more comfortable but I read it can be deadly if stopped suddenly. He doesn't use wisdom with any pills, even vitamin supplements, acting more like they are a magic. So I am concerned about his ability to even use the Clonidine in a safe fashion and wonder if I should just draw the line at no presciption drugs?
589824 tn?1238796813 Long term use of Clonidine should be tapered. BUT it does not cause the same type of W/D as opiates. If you suddenly stop Clonidine, you can suffer what is called "rebound hypertension" In otherwards, your blood pressure will go up. So it is not a huge deal unless you have underlying cardiac issues or existing high BP.
Avatar f tn Also I am not on clonidine and klonopin everyday around the clock. I take 1 clonidine pill when I start to have these chills/sweats/cold/hot feelings etc. Then 1 klonopin with the anxiety and that's it so I honestly don't think enough to be addicted in these 3 weeks. I'm just scared and trying to see if there is anyone out there that can give me any info or hope that these lingering crappy feeling days are because of the w/d.
880900 tn?1467270141 WIkipedia says clonidine is good for reducing sweats and general "unease", but the patient must withdraw carefully from it too, in order to avoid rebound hypertension. Has anyone had experience with this? Did you experience the rebound hypertension after using clonidine? I'm considering asking my doctor for this drug because I'm still experiencing w/d symptoms after 2 weeks w/d. I've not slept for four days, too. Thanks for your help.
656243 tn?1231288052 Hey eveyone. I was recently put on Clonidine to help with anxiety and I am currently on Effexor. Does anyone have any past experiences with Clonidine? Does it work? Do I have to build it up in my system? Thanks C.
Avatar f tn Your doctor needs to perscribe you a long acting pain medication instead of a short acting medication like percocet so you get better pain control. I understand your pain. Nothing is worse than nerve pain. Hope this helps some what. try to take the reccomended daily dose your doctor perscribes so you dont run out. It also helps to change pain medications every 6 months so you don't build up a tolerance to them. This is documented in research by the top pain specialists.

557230 tn?1269429829 m in serious withdrawls. I have been taking clonidine. For me the nausea, diarrhea and restlessness are really bad. How long will this go on? This is my second (and last) time quitting. I have even opened up to my husband about my addiction and he is helping me get through this.
349859 tn?1257790973 Does clonidine really help with easing some of the yucky wd feelings??
Avatar f tn 5 mcg/hr and stay there for 2-4 weeks before jumping off. 25 mcg/hr is still quite a bit of medicine. How long do you have before you have to go back to work? If you have 2-3 weeks to go through the withdrawals from stepping down from 25 mcg/hr, then that may be a viable solution. Regardless of stepping down from 25 mcg/hr or 12.5 mcg/hr, you are going to have some discomfort and I think stepping down from 25 mcg/hr will cause you more discomfort.
