Avatar f tn I need to know...my 3 year old son had a growth hormone stimulation test and the levels for clonidine came back below 4 at first and then peaked at 13. Then arginine was administered and his levels stayed at below 4. Does this mean he has some form of growht hormone deficiency?
Avatar n tn He is 41 inches and 34 pounds and is only averaging 2 cm of growth per year. He had growth hormone stim test a few weeks back and we got the results yesterday. His levels from the blood draws were: 0.8 4.6 11 12 7.1 6.9 3.8 Because insurance requires all numbers to be below 10 to be accepted we are going down a different route. His IGF-1 is low, his level is 32. I was told that it shouldn't be a problem getting insurance to accept that and we can treat him for the IGFD.
Avatar n tn hI, my son now 15 underwent treatment and a bone marrow transplant for Neouroblastoma at the age of four. He's been on growth hormone treatment for 3 years now but with no result. He's only 144cm tall and his endocrinologist says there's no hope because his bones have finished growing and the only suggestion is the bone stretching surgery. Can anyone suggest anything else?
Avatar f tn In terms of growth hormone, prematurity and intraventricular hemorrhage are not generally associated with growth hormone deficiency unless there are problems with other hormones also. It is most likely that your granddaughter's small size is due to her former general illness and prematurity. Babies like her need a tremendous amount of nutrition to achieve "catch up" growth, which can sometimes be hard to obtain if she doesn't eat extremely well.
Avatar n tn She is definitely short and body weight is too high for her height, glad to see you saw an endo. She is gh deficient and this is a very good reason for central obesity(more weight around the tummy) and short stature!!! Do not feel overwhelmed, this is good news, she has a chance for treatment, the mri is done on all of my patients before treatment is started, the best websites to go over gh include magicfoundation.
Avatar m tn My recent growth hormones as per Insuline Tolerance Test and Glucagon Stimulation Test shows 1.1 ug/L, Cortisol also shown low, guide what are expectations, already on Synthroid 0.50 mcg,.
Avatar f tn PS she says it all she can give me because I cant take birth control because I smoke, and that they can't test my hormone levels unless I stop having periods....sorry guys..lol. Is this true.....?
Avatar m tn We went to have multiple tests done and they confirmed that im producing next to no growth hormone, or something of that nature. Over the last couple years, I noticed that my friends have been getting taller, while im not. They said that if I dont get hormone injections, my platelets? will close and i wont grow at all. I am considering it and am wondering if there are any severe side effects the medication may have.
Avatar f tn If your child’s doctor suspects gigantism, he or she may recommend a blood test to measure levels of growth hormones and an insulin-like growth factor (called IGF-1), which is a hormone produced by the liver. The doctor also may recommend an oral glucose tolerance test. For this test, your child will drink a special beverage containing glucose, a type of sugar. Blood samples will be taken before and after your child drinks the beverage.
Avatar m tn is the growth hormone in a normal range for a 23 year old? and i also took a blood test at my gp and for chemistries my liver function and kidney function is fine and my thyroid(tsh) is at 1.344 which is also normal.
Avatar m tn Dhea(NL) 458ng/DL Ref range142-1410 Testosterone, total (DSL) 346Ng/DL Ref range 190-1037 Estradiol (DSL) 32 PG/ML None given Cortisol 14.8 Ug/DL None given The doctor told me the numbers were in normal range and it is not a problem. Avatar m tn so i just got out of the ER. i had a stroke 7 years ago and my leg was getting really numb again and i thought i was having another stroke. i told the dr. about my hydro addiction and he said that the symptoms i am having are from the w/d's. he gave me some clonidine(i think thats how its spelled) to get me off the tabs and its suppose to help with the w/d. anyone with any experience with this pill?
Avatar f tn Insurance will not cover on a growth hormone test. A more accurate test is IGF-1 which is what the body actually uses but you have to get a stim test (ah, another) to prove the body is not actually functioning properly. Oddly, I had normal, but low IGF-1 and failed the stim test - which does happen so I am on GH and really notice when I go off. I know some of my buddies that had no IGF-1 and failed the stim test! So yes, there is a test.
Avatar m tn Anyone have thoughts on promoting natural secretion of human growth hormone (hGH)?
Avatar m tn If your daughter is 12, actually the treatments are not really cosmetic. growth hormone while the name says growth, actually has more functions and some are very subtle like sleep and some are more real like muscle growth and bone growth. The social stigma of being different at this age can also have lasting effects - so if she starts to lose a lot of height and gets behind her peers, she may lose friends. It sounds shallow - but it really hurts and it does happen. It is just that age group.
Avatar m tn t test for it if you are obese. The false positive meaning that you are positive for growth hormone deficiency. But that if you lose weight to get out of the obese weight range then they are implying that you can then test for the growth hormone at that time and it will be accurate. So, perhaps weight is throwing off your growth hormone and the result you have isn't accurate. According to the endocrinologist they said your pituitary was normal.
Avatar f tn no adrenal growth factor and growth hormone test and an mri or ct scan
Avatar n tn There is something called growth hormone you may want to ask if it can still be given in your age group, have you had a bone age xray ?
Avatar n tn Could the Rathke's cyst and other structure be putting out growth hormone contributing to her fast growth rate and large size? Do Rathke's ever grow and do they every have to be removed??
Avatar m tn s not advised to take any chances or wait too long, is that proper brain and body growth only happens when there is enough thyroid hormone available to the body. Babies brains and body growth are dependent upon this! You don't want to take any chances as 90% of brain growth happens within the first two years of life. If needed, thyroid hormone replacement should be started as soon as possible. My daughter started Synthroid at the age of 3 weeks and she has developed normally.
Avatar n tn If his bone age is not advanced, I would rather wait longer to start his growth hormone instead of now. since his bone scan of May was not read corectly. I am not sure how fast his bone age is growing now. I am just wodnering if Lupron will be helpful.
Avatar f tn It sounds to me that at the very least you have a strong case for the need for him to be tested. Lack of stamina (often called reduced exercise tolerance-same general idea) is the hallmark symptom of growth hormone deficiency and your son's lack of growth at a time when he should be growing rapidly sounds suspicious.
