Avatar m tn anyone have any info on using Clonidine .1 mg for opiate withdrawal systems? Suppose to be a high blood pressure medication, but says it can be used for withdrawal systems too? wondering if it really works?
Avatar n tn How does it help, what w/d symptoms does it alleviate, and are there bad side effects or withdrawal symptoms from the clonidine itself if taken for 5 days or so? Has anyone tried it?
Avatar m tn He is going to put me on Clonidine 3x a day for 7 days. I also asked him to prescribe something for the diarrhea as well as the aches in pains. I am concerned that after getting off the pain meds completely I will be start experiencing the pain in my back again, but I will not want to get back on anything that strong or anything that is addictive. I am praying that I can get off these by just sticking it out with the clonidine.
Avatar f tn clonidine is originally for high blood pressure, and since the high bp causes a lot of the withdrawal symptoms (racing heart, sweats, etc) the Clonidine is suppose to lower your bp and help with these symptoms. It is possible your bp is dropping too low. Do you have a blood pressure cuff and have you talked to your doctor? You can go to a walgreens/walmart and have blood pressure taken as well.
10047460 tn?1407438406 Wow Jeni I'm not sure. The only time I took Clonidine was for my high blood pressure. I've heard that Clonidine helps with a lot of symptoms of withdrawal including cravings. My doctor gave me Zofran 8 mg for nausea. It worked really well. Sorry I can't be of more help. Hang on for a while.
Avatar f tn I find that a whole pill will knock me on my ars. Sometimes a tiny little piece will be enough to help with withdrawal symptoms. Keep up the good work.
526311 tn?1229286330 The librium and clonidine are to help you not feel the symptoms (or feel less of them) of w/d. They don't delay w/d if that's what you are asking. The diarrhea is a sign that your body is experiencing w/d. Be thankful the librium and clonidine are working so well. You can take immodium for the runs on top of the other two meds.
Avatar f tn Hi there, I am tapering down from methadone, was at 130mgs two years ago, and am currently at 41mgs, now tapering 2mg /week. I am already starting to get withdrawal symptoms which surprises me as this is not really a small dose. I am going hot and cold and getting hot flashes and really nauseous. My methadone doctor told me that clonidine will help these symptoms, I know some of you have tried it. I was wondering if I should start taking it, I am so uncomfortable.
1762497 tn?1313272219 This past thursday my doctor gave me a script for clonidine to help with some of the withdrawal symptoms. I am about to start taking it tonight for the 1st time as directed, how will it help ? and how will i feel in the coming days as my body adjusts to not having the Dilaudid.
Avatar f tn ok...i took it for 10 days for withdrawal purposes too, i do not know how long you hjave been on it...but you HAVE to taper from it or you could end up with rebound high BP... so if you start to reduce your dose every 2 days, you should be ok...you shouldnt be too uncomfortable when all is said and done, but do go slow...maybe just cut pout 1/2 a pill every 2 or 3 or even 4 days... i tapered off in 4 days, but was only on it for 10... how long have you been on it?
Avatar f tn t start on any med like that without a doctor and for the life of me I cannot remember why the clonidine is the blood pressure med to use. ( My brain is still not working well.) You do need to monitor you blood pressure if you are taking it. Talk with your doc.
Avatar n tn Hi. She needs to do this NOW before the addiction gets any worse. I was up to around 30 or more of those 10mg a day and right now I'm in rehab. You need to get her Clonidine for the withdrawl symptoms. Thats what they give you in rehab. Its only a blood pressure medication but has be found to also relieve symptoms of opiate WD's. I'm telling you I tried to detox from the pain pills at home MANY times and failed every time. The WD's are HORRIBLE.
Avatar f tn hi.....i have never used clonidine but it's suppose to be for high BP and also can be used for anxiety from what i've read. I am on a diff med for high BP. Good luck and hope it works for you! i've read that it helps alot of people calm down thru WDs.
Avatar n tn Thanks for Your response, I heard clonidine help with w/d, has anyone had any success?
Avatar f tn I am taking clonidine for my Subutex withdrawal. It has definetly helped with the anxious creepy crawly feeling. It also helped with hot flashes. I wasn't given any info on not to mix it with pain meds, but you may want to call you doctor to find out. Or even a pharmacist might be able to tell. good luck!
Avatar n tn the clonidine is not habit forming but if u stay on it for a while u do need to taper off/i was at 100 mgs of hydro for 4 yrs but didnt try the clonidine...i did ok without it and used ambien for sleep...probably not the best choice as ambien canbe abused as well but all it ever did was knock me out in 10 minutes..valerian root./melatonin/benadryl are all otc meds that u may want to try...if u have a low blood pressure clonidine is not a good choice...
1128565 tn?1316721143 He overdosed himself on clonidine last week trying to stop the withdrawal symptoms long enough to sleep. Well, he nearly made it an eternal sleep. BP dangerously low and breathing very shallow with long breaks in between. I was up for most of 2 days checking on him. Adding mass quantities of alcohol and other things to the mix didn't help matters either.
Avatar f tn second, my doctor prescribed two clonidine patches for me for any withdrawl symptoms. What do these do ? my doc said it woud basically knock me out...love that of course... but, i am hesitant because i had never heard of it... i know it is a little strange for a prescription lover to be afraid of a new drug...weird. but, i would like to hear about some experiences with people who have tried it before. Thank you so much.
290532 tn?1308136770 I tapered down to 6 and then saw a doc and got on Prestiq (anti-depressant), Clonidine for the withdrawal and Klonopin for Anxiety and she gave me Ambien CR for at night and in 3 days, I went CT yesterday. At first it really took away the WD feeling, but last night it was torture. I took the ambien, the klonopin and I took .1 mg of clonidine. and my legs were driving me absolutley insane, up all night in pain. My question is, can I take a higher dose of the .

Avatar f tn Clonidine is a medication that is generally used to ease the symptoms of opioid withdrawal. To be honest, though, clonidine is only slightly helpful, and comes with its own side effects like sedation, dry mouth, fatigue, and dizziness. Opioid withdrawal can be very severe in people taking high-potency opioids like heroin, fentanyl, or oxycodone-- so severe that people generally cannot even walk during the first week, and the legs are kicking uncontrollably.
Avatar f tn Has anyone used prednisone to lessen methadone or other opiate withdrawal symptoms?
Avatar m tn so i guess i am forced to detox which is the best thing i can do for myself. i was given clonidine .01mgs from a friend and that is all i have. will this drug be enough to help me endure the withdrawals so that i wont give in? i know its willpower and such but the anxiety literally scares the living hell out of me. im about to take my first pill now...
Avatar n tn s, your blood pressure tends to rise and you get uncomfortable symptoms, and the clonidine helps your blood pressure return to normal....only thing to watch out for is if your blood pressure is NOT that high, because then the clonidine can make you very dizzy, lightheaded and woozy....for some, it makes them very tired, which can be a good thing for sleep, if you're also having difficulties with that....otherwise, i'd stay away from topomax or ultram....hope that helps a bit....
