Avatar n tn Hi, My 13yr old son has mod-severe ADHD + OCD + Tourettes. In 2006 he showed a normal EKG. He has been taking Concerta ( 126 mg ), Abilify ( 6mg ), Prozac ( 40mg), Intuniv ( 4mg ), & clonidine at bedtime (.15mg). Since the last EKG he has tried diff SSRI's & SNRI's with some pos results. He is coming off the Abilify to try Haldol. His tics are very bad & last from 3pm after school until bedtime. We tried Risperdal yrs ago, but he wet the bed.

Avatar n tn Those that are the result of emotional or psychological problems can sometimes be treated through psychotherapy. For those experiencing nervous tics because of Tourettes syndrome, medication can sometimes control the disorder. In some cases, the medications used to control nervous tics can be gradually tapered off when paired with behavioral therapy. If the nervous tics return, however, it may be necessary to increase the dosage once more.
Avatar f tn I was on Orap when I was 12 for Tourettes, I went off it 2 years later. I followed suggestions to go to the bathroom in school or at work, somewhere where I could be alone. Then, whatever twitch I may be having I would perform over and over until I physically tired that muscle/nerve group enough that I could go another 45 mins or so before I would twitch again. Recently, I'm now 33, my sons phychiatrist(ADHD) told me that tourettes is caused by a problem with neurotransmitters.
Avatar f tn HE ALSO TAKES CLONIDINE, LEXAPRO, SULFSALIZNE FOR COLITIS AND HE GETS ALLERGYSHOTS AND TAKE LORATIDINE FOR ALLERGIES. HELP PLEASE, WILL THIS GO AWAY COULD THIS BE A START OF TOURETTES I AM SCARED AND HE IS TIRED OF BEING ON MEDICINE AND WE ARE TRYING SO HARD TO GET THROUGH THIS WITHOUT MAKING A BIG DEAL ABOUT IT ESPECIALLY WITH HIM IN SCHOOL.
Avatar m tn Hickoy5, I can only tell you I had a mild case of Tourettes as a child, I blinked my eys without even knowing I was doing it. After it was brought to my attention I made efforts to try and control, eventually it went away after a year. I would make an appt. with a Physchartist and if he could not help you, I would make an appt. with a Nurologist. Perhaps the medication that was precribed was not the correct medicine for him.
Avatar f tn and i would highly recommend you consider the potential of your tics being mistaken for Tourettes and the potential of these tics being in someway related to your complex preexisting medical conditions and or medications, and it might be in your best interest to see a Tourettes specialist and be officially diagnosed, which will likely include re evaluation of your medical diagnostic history too. I hope that helps....
Avatar n tn I took him to Children's in Pittsburgh and the neurologist still will not diagnose him with Tourette's because even though he's had the facial tics for 3-4 years he's only had the vocal tic for 3 weeks. Apparently the vocal and motor tics must both be present for a year. She did however give us a prescription for clonidine, so we'll see if that works or not.
Avatar f tn He also has adhd(diagnosed at age 6). He takes vyvanse 40m. for adhd, risperdone 1m. for mood disorder, and clonidine 0.2 for insomnia. He has motor ticks such as blinking his eyes ,shaking his head, twitching his shoulders, claps his hands or taps an object with his hands. He just started doing a skipping thing when he walks. Is this a tic? All of the motor tics i just mentioned are constant. The vocal tics he makes are sniffing, clearing his throat, and humming.
Avatar f tn tourettes syndrome is a hereditary disease that will run in the family..for example...my father had tourettes as well as a cousin in my family has tourettes. i now too have a severe case of tourettes.i was diagnosed at the age of 10 and have done nothing but gotten worse. a small head injury will not cause a child or adult to contract tourettes a day later much less 7 years later! to have tourettes one or more parent or someone in the family line must carry the gene...
Avatar n tn My son is 17 and was diagnosed with Tourettes and OCD at the age of 13. We had to wait 4 months of hell to be seen by a pyschiatrist and then had to wait about another 3 months to see some benefits from meds - clonidine and sulpiride. The tablets made him very tired and down and didnt go to school very often as he couldnt concentrate and fell asleep in class. He is very good at keeping in his vocal and motor tics when in public and with his friends but now he cannot do that.
Avatar n tn Is there any connection between Parkinsons and Tourettes? I have Parkinsons and my grandson has Tourettes. Both can be treated with deep brain stimulation. They both involve dopamine. Has anyone studied the relationship?
Avatar f tn Hi. I know often Tourettes exists in people alongside other conditions like OCD, ADHD etc so perhaps your daughter has also got a behavioural condition as well as Tourettes? It's definitely likely unless she is just feeling tense from coping with Tourettes but you said these behaviours were present before the Tourettes appeared. I think it would be a good idea to get this checked as well because if there is a condition there a diagnosis will be the most beneficial thing to help you.
Avatar f tn My son is only 7 yrs old. He has been diagnosed with Tourettes syndrome, OCD, ADHD, and has Sensory issues. He has been on several different drugs since he was 5 1/2. None have helped with his symptoms and we have decided to take him off of everything. He was taking 100mg Zoloft, 30mg Zyprexa, 200 mg Vistiril, and .1mg Clonidine daily. We successfully got him off of the Zoloft, and have gotten him down to 3.
Avatar m tn Most kids do out grow it but speaking from a kid that had Tourettes, I wish my parents would have taken me to see a doctor or neurologist for medication...even that even had medication for Tourettes back them. Kids can be so creul and it can cause self esteem issues down the line. There is medication to help control the Tourettes and if I were the parent, I would not hesitate to take my son to the doctor.
1460021 tn?1445735958 My mother suspected that i had it when my father was diagnosed with tourettes when i was about 5, during his diagnosis she asked the doctor if i could have tourettes and the doctor said that ADHD can stem from tourettes. Seeing as my father refused medication for himself and my mother was scared of him, i never got diagnosed or treated.
Avatar m tn Every so often, I may notice a slight tic in my son. But, it is always a very minor tic. And now at 29, he is not even on medication for the Tourettes. I might also add that with the Tourettes, he also had ADHD.
282524 tn?1348489012 Hi. I am a 17 yr female. I have a small form of Tourettes. You will want to go to a Neurologist. This is a doctor that helps with your Nervous System. Tics are the main cause. Any kind of Nervous defect can really cause it though... Most people are born with it. I was, and yet it was not noticeable until age 6 or 7. Some Long term problems are outburst, flinching vigorously, or any other sudden moments. Hope this helped.
Avatar f tn Kids at school are beginning to notice and are asking her about it. I have been given a prescription for Clonidine. Has anyone tried Clonidine? Was the Clonidine successful? What side effects were seen?
Avatar f tn Medication can be helpful for some people, for some its a choice and for others it is needed. I take Clonidine. It has a severe side effect profile but I do know that for some people (such as people with Tourettes Syndrome) it can be quite helpful. I also know someone with Adhd (an adult) who takes Ritalin and finds it of help. Both of those medications when used judiciously in children can be of help but they should be used to treat specific symptoms not for behavioral control.
401554 tn?1270213756 For the last 5 yrs I've been taken the clonidine patch for high BP, no side effects, but the PVC's are still there off and on.
Avatar f tn I am taking clonidine for my Subutex withdrawal. It has definetly helped with the anxious creepy crawly feeling. It also helped with hot flashes. I wasn't given any info on not to mix it with pain meds, but you may want to call you doctor to find out. Or even a pharmacist might be able to tell. good luck!
Avatar n tn Hi I had ADHD and tourettes most people with ADHD show signs of autism or tourettes there all connected in some way, I think the way you've described things sounds as if it's tourettes, I've been 2 many behavioul specialist, good luck with it and don't worry x
