Avatar f tn Kids at school are beginning to notice and are asking her about it. I have been given a prescription for Clonidine. Has anyone tried Clonidine? Was the Clonidine successful? What side effects were seen?
Avatar f tn Okay, looked it up for you---- in children with tourettes---- tics usually decrease or go away completely during sleep. Does that answer your question or is there more to the question? By the way, not all kids with tics go on to have tourettes.
Avatar f tn We have not given him any meds, as he has had the symptoms only for three weeks. One pedia neurologist recommended clonidine, but the second opinion totally disagreed. We are doing testing, and I'm starting him on supplements of B vitamins and Magnesium. Thanks for your comments.
Avatar n tn Hi, My 13yr old son has mod-severe ADHD + OCD + Tourettes. In 2006 he showed a normal EKG. He has been taking Concerta ( 126 mg ), Abilify ( 6mg ), Prozac ( 40mg), Intuniv ( 4mg ), & clonidine at bedtime (.15mg). Since the last EKG he has tried diff SSRI's & SNRI's with some pos results. He is coming off the Abilify to try Haldol. His tics are very bad & last from 3pm after school until bedtime. We tried Risperdal yrs ago, but he wet the bed.
Avatar f tn He also has adhd(diagnosed at age 6). He takes vyvanse 40m. for adhd, risperdone 1m. for mood disorder, and clonidine 0.2 for insomnia. He has motor ticks such as blinking his eyes ,shaking his head, twitching his shoulders, claps his hands or taps an object with his hands. He just started doing a skipping thing when he walks. Is this a tic? All of the motor tics i just mentioned are constant. The vocal tics he makes are sniffing, clearing his throat, and humming.
Avatar n tn He has jus started a college course that he really enjoys and now he cant attend that as these tics are so powerful that he cannot keep them in. It looks like clonidine and sulpiride have lost their effect. We are going to see pyschiatrist tomorrow to talk about new meds. Ive heard mixed stories about ORAP, HALDOL and RISPERIDONE. can anyone advise us on which one would work best for such severe motor and vocal tics.
Avatar f tn The snorting noise is an example of a vocal tic and, in light of the multiple motor tics in addition, she does meet the criteria for a diahnosis of TD. I would pay no attention to the behavior at all. Focusing on it will serve only to increase any anxiety, and she is too young to make sense of such a condition. Be sure (or her parents should be sure) to arrange an appointment with a pediatric neurologist.
603015 tn?1329862973 Find out where the tics are from for starters. If she has Tourrette's Syndrome the Catapres application can be used for that and it has a calming effect. I was prescribed it for dystonic spasms and it works as a mood stabilizer and was helpful for many people with Tourrette's Syndrome that I know. I believe it is used in children.
Avatar n tn Tenex, which is generic name guanfacine, and clonidine are 2 medications that can be used for tics. Each have their side effects but they are in general safe and are often effective in suppressing tics. Some recent research has shown that behavioral therapy may be helpful to some individuals.
Avatar n tn If the underlying cause is a physical or mental health threat, then that cause must be addressed. Similarly, if the nervous tics are making it difficult for a person to socialize or otherwise live a normal, happy life, it may be necessary to develop a plan to control the problem. Nervous tics that result from neurological problems can sometimes be controlled with muscle relaxants, tranquilizers, or medicines such as Clonidine.
Avatar n tn The internet should have a lot of information on tics - I might suggest you google the phrase "children and tics" or similar words/phrases to find out about this topic. Please note that the word is spelled "tic" - your spelling indicates fleas or bugs. Hope this helps ....
Avatar f tn s for about 10 years now. My husband and I are meeting with my neurologist in August to discuss our options for pregnancy. Based on our past discussions, he would prefer that I am 100% off of my tourrette's medications before stopping our birth control to avoid any possible birth defects if we are to get pregnant quickly.
Avatar f tn Um i would say that the book Quit It Is good for maybe that kind of situation.
Avatar n tn I strongly believe that there is an autoimmune aspect to the symptoms my kids have had. Both have had Tics and OCD symptems. My son has been on a low dose of Penicilin for several years. It took about a year and a half for his symptoms to resolve. Occasionally when he gets sick he has a minor "flare up" that does not last nearly as long and is not anywhere near as severe as the first episode. My daughter is 9 months out from her onset of PANDAS symptoms.
Avatar f tn First definitely find a good Neurologist, someone your son is happy with, it can be hard to discuss the tics and what is happening when you are young. Secondly please do not ever punish him for these Tics, if it is Tourettes he can not stop them. In time he may be able to control them but stress, tiredness, school and a number of other situations can make them more frequent and stronger.
449440 tn?1206887304 Quite often, obsessive thought and/or compulsive behaviors are associated with the tics. In such cases, Clomipramine is a god alternative. It helps the obsessive part of the symptoms. I don't say Tics are obsessions, but having obsessive compulsive traits makes it difficult to treat the tics with usual medication. Do you have any of these? I hope I could throw some light. Please ask any more queries you may have.
Avatar f tn in Tic and tourette symptoms, many people do believe that vaccinations could be a reason, however it has not been proved .
Avatar n tn My daughter's been experiencing these weird tics in various parts of her body lately. I beleive it to be an emotional disorder or because she has poor eating and sleeping habits, it sometimes happens more frequently when nervous, depressed, scared, tired. When she was younger around 8-10 (she's 15 now) she'd get really nervous about kids in school and start to blink constantly.
Avatar n tn I also have three children, the oldest and youngest affected by tics, and the middle (son) not. My oldest was put on Ritalin for elementary school. He had tics, and they stopped when he was taken off Ritalin. My youngest son never was put on any medication, he has tics that come and go. My middle child (a son) has no tics, and no ADHD. Best wishes.
Avatar n tn They are usually the worst at night when his meds are wearing off and in the morning before his meds kick in. It is really starting to worry me since the tics have gotten worse. Is this normal and if so, will it ever stop?
Avatar m tn Your son's pediatrician was correct - most tics in children are indeed transient. They develop spontaneously and they resolve spontaneously (without treatment). There is no way to know with certainty. To be assured that you are covering the bases, ask your son's pediatrician to refer him to a pediatric neurologist. And try not to call your son's attention to the tic. hat would only make matters worse by adding stress.
1511164 tn?1301580782 So I decided to post this same question on Yahoo Answers and found out that it is most like OCD, and I do have OCD http://*****************/question/index?qid=20110213042818AAeq89e Here what I got from wiki under Tourette Syndrome: Under Characteristic I found: "Among patients whose symptoms are severe enough to warrant referral to clinics, obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are often associated with Tourette's.
